This had me rolling🤣 when you were saying 808s are always mono "If somebody's gotta f****** roast me about that please do" You're awesome CJ!!! I always watch your tutorials they have helped me more then anyone else out there to be honest. I needed a good laugh man its been pretty stressful lately with my beats.
2 Years old and it's still my go to when I need a refresher for mixing! Always on the lookout for your tutorials chief! You the best when it comes to these tutorials imo
hey thanks for the tut, really good, the compressor on the kicks were clutch, it would be good if you did a more in depth mastering tutorials tho, like compression and imaging. Also could you do a tutorial on how to side chain kicks and 808s? as I notice logic users never seem to side chain their kicks and 808s?
you put a send on the kick drum for example bus 5, mute the bus. Add a compressor to your sample(s) in the top right corner it says "side chain:" click on it and click on bus 5. or whatever bus you sent your kick drum to
Do you have any trouble with loudness with your mixes? I have been using logic for a few years now and sometimes my mixes sound really quiet...even when nothing is peaking.
i actually have all of ozone 8. They are great for the master but sometimes my mixes just sound low. then i end up cranking the threshold when i limit and compress the master but sometimes it messes with the punchiness of my kicks
make sure all your channel tracks peaks loud enough but not to distortion by that you can bring down the master peak by a reduction gain atleast to -3... then insert a limiter on the master bus and crank it up..
wow....you were absolutely right about the 808 in the "binaural pan"......just a quick note....(((if you double click the nob it opens a box where you can adjust it easier))) now......without the binaural mode selected your 808 is technically siting top left and right......smh....thank you so much bro. definitely needed this
Good tip on choosing the EXS/808 in Mono, that passed me by man as did the Compressor presets. With setting gains I find that as I add more instruments and plugins that master gain runs away like a mutha and I'm constantly pulling the individual gains down.
cool vid man, thanks for taking the time to make these. you answered a question I wondered about for quite sometime now right at the end there. every time I finish an instrumental or a song, I ensure that I'm not clipping (going above 0.0) but when I export the song and listen to it in my car I always have to turn up the volume a little bit higher than what I would normally have it for a song that a mainstream artist released. I'll have to see if that ozone fixes the issue or look into similar items..
Thanks just finished watching the video. You've definitely given me some ideas. What do you think about using Logic's multipressor instead of ozone 7? I usually throw that on there as well.
Thanks, CJ this really helped me out! been posting beats now for the last couple weeks mad frustrated on how to get that professional sound. The binaural pan is legendary! Thanks again
I feel the same about mixing the midi files instead of bouncing everything to waves...I did the waves thing for a while and it really just made a mess, gave me a headache Nd took forever! RIP bouncing all those files to waves and having multiple projects etc...
hey man i just came across your vid....you helped me out ALOT....could you do a video on how to upload sound kits into logic and how to arrange wav formats from sound kits
If you’re an artist that slides 808s use legato instead of mono. Turn your tuner down all the way, and use overdrive if you don’t have decapitator. Im not a professional but it works
when you bounce your track, do you normalize and do you use real time or offline? really need help on my mixes bcz I got some fire ideas but my shit be coming out sloppy asl haha.
Dope Video as usual. Check out Neutron 2. You can add it to each channel then add the Neutron2 Visual Mixer to your Master Bus and do the same type of panning with each channel you put Neutron 2 on. You can change the gain structure without adjusting your actual gain.
PLEASE HELP! Whenever i right click to get the binurial pan NOTHING comes up?? ive been clicking all aorund to get the option to change to binurial pan... Does anyone have a clue whats wrong?? And does anyone know how I can fix this problem or maybe another way around to get the binurial pan up? Thanks for helping forehand!
First ensure ‘Surround’ is selected in Logic’s Advanced preferences pane. Next, select the channel strip you wish to apply the effect and set the ‘Output’ slot to Binaural. The standard pan control will then change to a binaural panning control.
I never wanna bounce midi to audio when mixing cuz I’m afraid I’ll wanna go back and change sounds... what are the benefits of mixing with just audio vs midi files besides saving cpu power? I’ve always struggled with this so I’m just curious about everyone else’s take on it
if you were to be sending your files to get mixed, the files would have to be .wav audio files. If you're mixing on the go while you're creating then it's fine to mix with the MIDI but the real mixing and mastering happens when you don't need to make anymore changes.
Kris Erice I feel you I guess my real problem is I’m never satisfied with my instruments and arrangements so I end up going back and forth between editing and mixing and just running myself in circles, so I guess I’m that sense it would help me personally. Thanks for the feedback I’ve always assumed that’s the only reason it would really be necessary as long as your Cpu could keep up but UA-cam tuts are saturated with lots of misinformation lol
I'm going to email you for the beat in the intro and ending beat if that's alright with you because I was wondering if I could make a song and just send it back to you to hear on your free time.
Could you do a new video with the same topic please? its been 3 years since you shared this video and Im hearing that your kicks and 808s changed and are hitting harder in your last beats.

CJ Beatz could you make a part 2 to this and go deeper into what you do after the basic mastering
Yo this was dope you should do a more advanced one for mixing and mastering
This had me rolling🤣 when you were saying 808s are always mono "If somebody's gotta f****** roast me about that please do" You're awesome CJ!!! Do you have any trouble with loudness with your mixes? I have been using logic for a few years now and sometimes my mixes sound really quiet...even when nothing is peaking.
you should look into ozone elements to make ur beats bang!
i actually have all of ozone 8. They are great for the master but sometimes my mixes just sound low. then i end up cranking the threshold when i limit and compress the master but sometimes it messes with the punchiness of my kicks
same here
make sure all your channel tracks peaks loud enough but not to distortion by that you can bring down the master peak by a reduction gain atleast to -3... then insert a limiter on the master bus and crank it up..
I'll definitely try this. Thank you for your time
thanks for mashing up the bass eq and piano eq together. very step by step!!! @7:29

Thanks man! That Binaural Trick on the 808 is fantastic....
wow....you were absolutely right about the 808 in the "binaural pan"......just a quick note....(((if you double click the nob it opens a box where you can adjust it easier))) now......without the binaural mode selected your 808 is technically siting top left and right......smh....thank you so much bro. definitely needed this
Can you do a video for programming 808s
Good tip on choosing the EXS/808 in Mono, that passed me by man as did the Compressor presets. With setting gains I find that as I add more instruments and plugins that master gain runs away like a mutha and I'm constantly pulling the individual gains down.
An Ozone mastering tutorial would be dope! Also maybe a side-chain tutorial on 808s & kicks
Thanks bro for the tip on the kick and 808. You're a good teacher.

Good stuff! Try side chaining the kick and the hook bass for some pulse :) Nice beat bro :)
Not proud of the beat? That shits 🔥. Nice work!!
I feel the same about mixing the midi files instead of bouncing everything to waves...I did the waves thing for a while and it really just made a mess, gave me a headache Nd took forever!
RIP bouncing all those files to waves and having multiple projects etc...
That first beat is sickk have you got a video on how you mixed it??
I made a song to this beat, Thank you CJ. Credited you in the description.
I learn something new every time good stuff
Hey, thanks for the video! Do you have any tips to create trip beats with the aesthetics and dirtiness similar to Portishead style? xx
Fire. Thanks for the tips!
No problem 👍
love the content thanks man!
Yes, man, was just about to mix a trap beat doing none of these things lol thank you
hey man i just came across your vid....you helped me out ALOT....could you do a video on how to upload sound kits into logic and how to arrange wav formats from sound kits

Thank you soooo much!!! For this video
what a nice tutorial, thank you so much brooo ! four thumb up,my hands and my foots haha
So you don't recommend an Adaptive Limiter for mixing?
i like that bass sound
Awesome!! How many headroom should you have for mastering? -6db?
if you need a video idea you should do a tutorial on how to do the effect in the background music that starts at 1:12
I'm wondering, can you use that soft clipper you mentioned in one of your videos in place of ozone at the end of mixing?
Hello CJ, is that a traditional computer monitor you have there or a TV. I am trying to get a bigger screen for my laptop.
The monitor I have is an apple retina monitor. You can really get any monitor though to connect to your mac book.
Playing on different devices is the proven old school way to do it.and yes, always leave headroom to add effects
Good job bro and thank you
great video too my guy
Nice tips they really helped
glad to help bro!
awesome vid bro
What sound card do you use sir?
+Macho universal audio apollo twin
Hi bro what's the name of the song in your intro wanted to listen the whole version, that song is fire
I been trying to make a dope producer tag on Logic Pro does anyone know?/ 😬
Does having a plugin in a slot affect anything if its turn off...Im just wondering because I see that you leave the slot blank if your not using them.
another female producer/engineer Lets colab! hmu on ig @_subco
Very Nice man!
keep it coming!
Very helpful. Thank you
ok so if you starting to get technical then make your kick mono too?
Would love to hear vocals on that dope beat.
great stuff
legend
hey for some reason when i right click my 808 binaural pan doesnt come up as an option, can anyone help?
First ensure ‘Surround’ is selected in Logic’s Advanced preferences pane. Next, select the channel strip you wish to apply the effect and set the ‘Output’ slot to Binaural. The standard pan control will then change to a binaural panning control.
hey cj question , shouldn't mixed be between -12 dbs to -6dbs to be exported so people can lay vocals ontop ? I'm a bit confused
Yes, that a good measure.
CJ Beatz gotcha 👌🏽 Thanks

What db should my studio monitors be at ?
Hey CJ, how much would you charge me to mix down one track? I'm using Logic, so i could definitely send you the file. Let me know. Thx
Great video man, can you make a Post Malone type beat tutorial?
For the master that's all you put? I seen people put more things or does ozone make it so you don't need others in the master
i can see that if you don't have an overall mastering plugin like ozone (ozone contains a lot of different paramaters that you can mess with.
CJ Beatz so with getting ozone I should be chilling mixing beats and sending them off to artist or uploading them to UA-cam
Nice tut..808's in mono, gotta try that out.
appreciate you professor..
the beat in the intro and ending omg
I'm going to email you for the beat in the intro and ending beat if that's alright with you because I was wondering if I could make a song and just send it back to you to hear on your free time.
is that the beta fl studio there? if not how is that there?
Could you do a new video with the same topic please? its been 3 years since you shared this video and Im hearing that your kicks and 808s changed and are hitting harder in your last beats.
