How does a 59 minute video go by so fast?! I could literally listen to you teach and speak forever and not lose focus. Thank you for everything you do, you're one of my favorites.
I want to thank you so much for going into so much detail about shape and thickness with your thumb nail. I haven’t finished the video yet but so far, you’ve cleared up so many of my little nagging concerns with shaping and edges. Also, your nails are almost identical to mine and it was nice to compare my last self manicure to your nails and product application. Boosted my confidence, it did! Can’t wait until I go with “kitten” length, next! Thank you again, so so much for teaching us via UA-cam!
I loved how you demonstrated how to file with a e-file! I love my e-file but I want use it better. I am not licensed but I have been doing my nails for over 8 years. Using UA-cam with content creators like you, Susie, and a few others with how to create and use different products is invaluable. Thank you for taking the time to create such informative content. I love doing my nails and I have done some close family and friends as clients that keep coming back 🥰☺️
Thank you for this video, I struggle with nail shaping. I enjoyed watching you shape and shorten with the efile, especially holding the bit at 45 degrees this was new to me. I will try some of these pointers in my next fill.
I am always happy in the beginning of the week because you post a new video to show us how to do things like pro. thank you very much. I have learn many tricks from you ❤️❤️
I started about two months ago doing gel at home. Every search I made led me back to your page. I have learned so much and can’t wait to try some of these shapes on my next mani😍😍
Thanks so much you are the best teacher ever! I have pulmonary Fibrosis and I used to grow my own nails and I’m a girly girl. Since getting sick I have stopped working (I am a nurse) and now I am on palliative care. I needed something to do, a hobby to keep me busy and I have decided since I’m not up to going to the nail salon anymore that doing gel nails will be my new hobby. My disease has caused me to have “clubbed nails” and they are getting worse. I hate the way my nails look. I can still grow them but they look horrible. I have found one company that makes dual forms wide enough for my thumbs as my mail beds are quite wide. I haven’t perfected the nail form YET but I am learning thanks to people like you and Susie at NCE. I saw your video you did together! Again, I really appreciate all you do for us! It puts a smile on my face when I look down and have beautiful nails again. ❤️😊💄💅👋
I’m late out the gate but I’m really loving these informative videos! I have absolutely no intention of doing anyone else’s nails just my own. I’m a nurse practitioner and don’t believe that anyone can do that job without years of education. Likewise I believe that I will be a very elderly lady in a rascal scooter before I reach your skill level. Actually I will never reach your skill level. This is an art form. I just want to do my own nails and not look crazy during this pandemic. Thanks for helping us!
I have to have short square (and have to file off most of the tip when I extend) so thank you for spending a good amount of time on that, and getting rid of that bulk. I do like ‘perfectly square’, so thank you for the free edge taper bit as well. (And thanks for the distraction!)
Definitely going to be practising my shaping thanks to this video! Thanks liz! Also luminary is my favorite. I've completely switched to this product for my bases. Never have any lifting or chipping away!
I just purchased the Medicool Pro 520 for home use, and I am a beginner just learning. My question is what nail drill bits should I purchase, and what plastic nail tips should I use for acrylics ? I need recommendations on purchasing for hybrid gels as well as far as what brand, and which tips is best please. Thank you for your time, and your help
Can you do this when you first do your gel extensions? So if I only had coffin shaped full cover tips could I follow this video to turn them into almond shape?
Thank you so much for all these videos. I have learned so much from you. I never thought or knew to go back and refine the nail after you topcoat. Once in awhile I will see a bump or lump afterwards and it bugs me. But I always thought I would file away the gel. Now I know I wont. Thank you. Also Suzie says dolphin nose all the time
Once again Liz you have out done yourself!! You are an amazing teacher and I just love watching your videos! I don’t have any social media like Facebook or Instagram so I wish everyone good luck and happy filing!!😊
Thanks, I've been wanting to do kitten 😺 nails but never tried so im going to do my mothers day/bday nails in the shape. Will post and would really like to hear your critic on my work.
Another awesome video!! Very informative and pretty nails too!!! Thanks for sharing all you do!! 💜💖💜 I'm totally in love with the Volcano bit!!! Works so perfectly!!
Thank you for this video! I honestly didn’t know to not cut down my nails (natural nails with semi hard builder gel). I just did a manicure and I don’t think I saw any lifting on the free edge. Do you have any suggestions for checking with polish already on? Should I be concerned or can I wait until my next manicure?
I Love Love Love this video!! So educational!! Thank you Liz for taking your time to do this!! I don't have a fb or instagram either so Congratulations to the winner of that super prize!
Just a question. I've been doing my own gel manicures for a while now, but I've noticed my natural nails are super bendy and thin although I do a proper removal. Is there something I'm missing or doing wrong? Do I need some type of strengthening formula or is the protein bonding primer etc ruining my nails? Thank you for your nail educating videos, so helpful
I have been doing nails for over 15 years. When refilling your nails, there is only one way that your nails could thin out. That would be that you are filing off the old builder gel excessively hitting the natural nail. You are prepping and filing off too much of your natural nail. You may not realize it but if you file to heavily around the cuticle area or even the nail bed this will thin your natural nails making your nails grow out thin and weak. Also, you rarely ever need to remove all the builder gel. Just remove all that you need to. Fill over the old gel so long as it is still adhering well. Lightly remove most of the old gel around the cuticles (very Lightly) as this fill area is normally applied ever so thin. Then remove any lifting you may have. Remember to go lightly when filing off existing gel avoiding your natural nail. Push back the cuticles and carefully take only the shine off the natural nail regrowth around the cuticle area. Hope this helps you. One more thought, your nails will appear thin you find it necessary to remove all the gel. It will take a day or two for them to dry out and harden again. Check out Liz's video How To Apply Gel Polish Start-to-Finish (Real Time) Good luck!
I bought a really nice e-file off of Amazon & it’s beautiful & didn’t cost $300+, it actually cost $180. It’s called a Lavinda & is purple & blue (sooooooo pretty & powerful & portable!) Amazon also has a Red & Purple one called a Bella! Both so pretty, very powerful, both of them rotate at 35k rpm, same price at $180. Definitely worth it!! I luv mine😍
Awesome video. You’ve inspired me to finally do mine. They never look as nice when I try to reshape and shorten. I was considering rebuilding, but I’ll use your tips and see what happens. Thanks!
I remember when I first started doing nails I tried the clipping down thing and boy did it hurt there was so much vibration it really hurt my nail bed it was bruised for a while.
Suzie says dolphin nose and if im not mistaken you were in a video with her where she used "dolphin nose" when talking about looking down the barrel or something.
You're welcome. It's the best way to visualize what the structure of the nail should look like from that angle and in my opinion its universal even though the styles differ greatly.
Im saving up to buy an efile. I was wondering whether you can provide tips on how to file off bulk underneath the free edge. I've seen nail tech's cleaning up underneath with an efile.
@@Shamrock0513 thank you Shannon, I've seen the video, but i was wondering how you clean and smooth underneath the nail without an e-file? Especially beginners like myself who do not yet have an e-file.
Danielle Kurz oh okay I see what you mean I honestly don’t think there really is a way to get rid of bulk underneath without an e file but that’s just my opinion and I suck at getting the bulk out from underneath even with one to be honest which is why I sculpt with forms.
Ohhh such good advice regarding tapering the square before applying colour etc... no wonder my last set looked a bit fat 😬 "You're worth it"... awww thanks!! Which shape is your favourite and how do you choose a shape that suits your hands/fingers? x
Great video as always! Could you please do a video with the Medicool Turbo File II that is under 100$ ? I can't afford the other ones and would love to see it in action and I trust your opinion the most❤️💅🏽
Would you recommend buffing as the last step? Yours look great, but I always have issues with scratches, and I always seem to go through the top gel (and ruin the the sparkle of glitter dip powder). What grit did you use to finish file?
Hi I use 180 grit to finish file. You could use a buffer as well. A great way to get rid of visible scratches is to put some bonder down before your top coat. For example Light Elegance Tack is perfect for that. You just put a bit on over the finish filed nail, let it dry completely, then apply your top coat like Super Shiny and you will not see any scratches whatsoever! Hope that helps!
Hi ty for the video. All my nails broke little by little, and l have one long. Wanted to shorten my kitten nail.i use the hand file. I have a cordless machine. But I Use it more for my feet. As I'm scared to use, it's to strong. And I do my nail myself. Lol hagd.
That almond shape is nice! I was thinking of going with oval. Which is better for short nails? I'm thinking a little shorter than you have here. Not nubs, but nothing long at all.
Hi Liz, I love the kitten style nails! I did mine and I love the way they make my hands look. I'm sure I'll be wearing this nail style as my 'go to' from now on. Thank you for your educational videos, I've learned so much from you.❤💗❤ I am also in the process of transitioning from hybrid gel to akzenz 💅💜
Usually u cant control the speed with a foot pedal just on and off it's sometimes if u no yr going to be using g the same speed you set the speed u want with the dials on the unit and the foot pedal u can use to turn it on n file away and stop when needed saves flicking the on off switch all the time

I've been there.... Now I'm more comfortable with it and a bunch of different bits helped. The sanding band was too big & bulky and that's how I overdid it and created rings of thin weak spots in my nail. With the carbide cone shaped bits I can see more of what I'm doing and it's easier to not overdo it.
I love the round shape on my hands. People are always trying to get me to do other shapes. I do like the oval shape but do prefer the round. Do you have any tips for round?

So beautiful!
Very interesting! Thank you very much teaching us all that!!

How high does drill have to to be to take off like yours? I got mine on Amazon

Can I use nail clippers if I have tips + SNS (no gel, no acrylic)
It will probably crack your product if you use nail clippers. i would recommend filing. You can use a nail file instead of an e-file.
'dolphin nose' was from Susie from NCE

Can you use a standard nail file instead of using the dremmel
OMG! Was that a sneeze? Adorable! Lovely video. P.S. Do I need much of an apex on shorter nails? I won't be doing long nails.
Τhis is such an informative and well explained video. Thank you💕
I just started doing nails and I haven't found a base coat that makes my gel polish last what base coat do you recommend?
Thank you so much for all of your videos! I've learned a ton from you I appreciate it! For example, I'd love to change the color weekly (even on the weeks where I don't need a fill) but wasn't sure if that was advisable? Would love your thoughts, thank you!
This was an awesome lesson and oh sooooo helpful. Dolphin nose is Susi’s comments.
Enjoyed watching 🥰💖
full speed, is that also for ceramic bits?
Yes all bit types. Full speed light touch is best when removing/shortening. When working on the natural nail or skin show it way down to 1/4-1/2 speed.
@@TheNailHub thank you very much..
I always get confused if I shorten the nail first, or if I take off the bulk first. And i've seen both methods used and i'm still none the wiser. Help
I find its easier to remove bulk first. But there’s no right way to just personal preference.
Did the giveaway from the last video get announced yet?
