Looking good. Looks like both of us do a fair bit of solo coastal sailing where redundancy and safety are important. I have found the addition of a small outboard (2.5 hp Suzuki in my case), greatly increases the safety and range of the TI. See my videos for more info.

Cheers James 🍺 I've watched quite a few of your vids, very interesting. I'm trying to avoid adding a motor but its Utility is obvious. Just had to do a repair on a cracked hole in the AMA. Bloody nightmare of a repair. Main thing that scares me on the open sea is big waves coming in.

Hey there Alex, nice trick with the bungees. I just acquired a good used AI which I will apply this to when the bungees wear out - I am noticing you get a lot less wash when moving by sitting in the back - is this why you purchased a TI?

Gday mate. I got the TI because my girlfriend wanted to head out with me, otherwise would have kept the AI, easier to transport.

Good idea when replacing bungees but not very clean looking. I also am heavy and solo front seat has real disadvantages. I made 5 foot pole with a heavy wire loop to raise and lower dagger board with a plastic boat hook both are handy tools from back seat. I also put a open jam cleat on aft x-bar for reel line but found it handy but unnecessary. I like you show the prose. One recommendation would be to add a nylon line loop as a with the bungees long enough to put bungee on but short enough to not allow Aka to come out if bungee breaks. 👍🏻👍🏻

Cheers bro, yeah they are ugly but definitely practical and easy to repair at sea. Sounds like you've made a few cool mods. 🍺

I did experience a rudder failure once on a windy day. Later investigation revealed that I likely had the pin partially broke prior to going out. After a long struggle to maintain control (with the paddle) while attempting to head home upwind, I realized the trouble. The problem was that I was significantly reefed because of the higher wind conditions and this shifts the wind center of pressure forward b/c of the roller reefing mast making the boat more less stable to the wind....which makes it want to go in the direction of the wind. The solution of course was to run much less reefed, and that took a while to get the hang of, but eventually it all worked out. What I've been thinking of, would be whether I could rig a mizzen mast to act as a vertical tail like on an airplane that would allow stability into the wind. Maybe an emergency ribbon could be effective too (thinking of model rocket streamer recovery). I should probably watch again but it appeared that you were reefed; if so, practice with a fuller sail.

Oh, the other reason I was thinking about a mizzen would be to improve the pointing capability of the TI since that would make it more stable under normal conditions too.

G'day Strure, thanks for commenting and pls sub if you can, I need 12 more to make 1k and monetise. The TI is a horrible upwind sailor, especially when furled. I plan my trips so I can make an emergency return without running upwind. Limits my options but keeps me safe without making big modifications.

Hi Alexander, Clever work on the bungee loops. I am looking at upgrading my AI to a TI to keep dryer and carry more gear for longer trips. Would still be sailing predominantly solo though. Interested to get your thoughts on handing the TI vs AI. I would have a trailer & not carry on car.

AI tougher, better kayak, much easier out of water, out of production so no spares. TI better sailboat but easier to overpower, higher & dryer, more people/cargo,
