    Ford flex water pump and timing chain repair
    • Part 2 Ford Flex oil l...
    The flex is back and doing well, today we will be replacing the spark plugs and coils, i know a complete coil replacement isn't necessary, however in my past experience on higher millage vehicles there comes a time were you start chasing coils around failure after failure, after 2 strikes i replace them all while digging deeper, hope you enjoy

    Thank you, after watching this video we were able to change our spark plugs with relative ease.
    But prior to changing the spark plugs we power washed the top of the motor and engine bay. We took our 2009 Flex SEL (and my Honda Civic) to a self-serve car wash and first we sprayed the engines with Simple Green, let sit for a five minutes, then sprayed clean with the power washer (on rinse). Cover electrical connectors with rags if you want to; just don't over do it with the power washer. And wait a few minutes after you finish power washing to let most of the remaining water evaporate off.
    Now the engines look great and the Flex runs more smoothly with new plugs (108K on the orig ones, probably way overdue). Oh and we did oil changes on both cars yesterday. Tomorrow we will be rotating tires.

    i have two suggestions... blow air pressure down the spark plug hole before you remove the spark plug
    to remove any loose junk...
    Also might as well replace the pvc valve after you remove the intake manifold as its at the back of the engine and is a lot easier to replace with the intake manifold removed...

    I want to thank you for a great video. I also want to thank you for a straight up step by step way to remove the intake and your advice on the anti seize. I used to be an ASE mechanic, how ever I changed careers in 1988. Lots has changed in those almost 28 years. I still have my tools and do what ever I can on my vehicles if I can. I will be doing this on my car as soon as the weather starts to warm up. No heat in the garage. LOL

    Glad the engine has held up after that water pump repair. That was a good call you made and it turned out in your favor. It's a tough decision to make especially when a so called 'pro' makes an incorrect diagnosis. Take it easy - Ozz

    • @robinsonsauto
      @robinsonsauto  9 років тому

      Thank you, I'm thankful everything has been holding up, my biggest concern after finding the root cause, wasn't so much the repair in general, but the fact the initial misleading diagnoses put that engine In a potentially catastrophic state, running longer than it should have with that failed water pump most certainly contaminated the oil in more than one way, the multiple oil flushes after the repair must have been enough, Couldn't be happier

      Michael Herbert i honestly cant recall if i have, however i wouldn't think twice about giving one a shot, i just had a bad experience with a bosch the other day, it was cycling good but the ecm didn't agree with the signal, just came to mind when you asked, wish i had the cam rolling for that repair swapped out with another and it was good

    It's great to see you again. Do you always put grease on the coil electrical connection? I've never seen that done. Interesting. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. Its much appreciated.

    • @robinsonsauto
      @robinsonsauto  9 років тому

      Michael Herbert Thank you, yes i have used dielectric grease for many years after experiencing connection issues due to moisture, corrosion etc. with very good results. been stumped by connection issues that resulted in come backs and misdiagnoses, i have found myself slipping away from using it as much as i once had during general repairs, mainly because manufactures made great improvements on connector seals, but in general its a good practice especially when replacing a part because the connector seal has formed itself to the old part and may not seal 100% on the new replacement, its an extra line of protection, hope that answers your question

    You know, the windshield cowl gaskets on these cars (heck on all Fords) are infamous for failing after about 5 years. Apart from the bizarre vibrations/noises that causes in the Flex's air conditioning ducts, could that same bad cowl gasket be letting water onto the rear heads?

    I went to the ford dealership and the guy told me to do an injector flush when I do a tune up, he said it helps and you have to do it. And then tells me the charge is $300...that is asinine. Would you recommend doing that injector flush?

    • @inorite4553
      @inorite4553 3 роки тому

      No. Well, no unless you routinely leave your gas cap open and physically removed your fuel filter.
      Honestly, you should only need to add injector cleaner to the gas tank about once a year or once every other oil change
