I appreciate this video. Thanks for sharing what works for you, what didn't work, and some things you learned. I find that there are so many art teachers who are supportive, kind, and resourceful if we seek them out. There has been a few art teachers who have not been this way, especially the last few years. I believe if you can help someone, just do it. My misconception was that all art teachers were this huge, non-judgemental, and creative community of people who would understand and support each other. Art teachers have not always been respected or supported by admin, parents, or even students and the idea that we have each other's back is not always the reality. Being honest about misconceptions is appreciated and I love all of your videos.
Thank you for your kind words! I appreciate you sharing your experiences. Unfortunately, I think many of us have encountered less than supportive fellow art teachers. I especially see this on social media where people should be connecting. It’s sad to see other teachers break each other down.
As always, your videos are so incredibly helpful to this new art teacher (in my 25th year of teaching). Your videos have been invaluable to me as I've transitioned from genEd to being a specialist. It's a totally different craft and there is so much that I don't know. Thanks to you, I'm learning! And yes, in my first 10 years I was the young gung-ho teacher volunteering for everything and doing way too much (and loving every second of it). Now that I'm near the end of my career I'm done with working for free, being there more than I'm contracted for and taking on more than I can physically and mentally handle. Do I want to sponsor an Art Club and have an extra prep and work after school for two hours a week for free? No thanks.
Thank you!! Art teachers are expected to do A LOT with out all the extra art clubs, displays, contests, art shows, etc. It is a very physically and mentally challenging job! 🤪

Your information is wonderful! Do you have the students keep a binder or sketchbook where they keep the things like the Techniques sheets?
I do not. I have techniques charts on my TPT. We create them on separate sheets of paper.
