    Project 1: Crayon People
For this project, we’ll use tempera sticks and tempera cakes to create colorful backgrounds filled with different types of lines. Students will then glue on eyes to their crayon characters and attach them to their backgrounds for a fun and creative start to the year! Tempera Cakes and Kwik Stix link www.amazon.com...

    Project 2: Rainbow Collage
This project is all about color matching and learning how to use scissors in the art room. We’ll use glue sponges to adhere cut paper to a pre-drawn rainbow background, which helps students practice focus and fine motor skills. I’ll also show you my new favorite tool, the guillotine paper cutter!

Project 3: Roy G. Biv Character
Inspired by the “You Might Be Giants” music video, this lesson introduces students to the concept of ROYGBIV in a playful way. We’ll create our own adorable versions of Roy G. Biv, a fun character that helps reinforce the colors of the rainbow. You can purchase my Roy G. Biv project on my TPT store! www.teacherspa...

Thanks so much for these ideas! I might do them with my 1st graders. I just wanted to ask about classroom management. I've watched most of your videos on classroom management, but specifically want some advice on how to keep kids engaged and focused and not talking. I have a 2nd grade class that will lose focus and start talking if I pause for a millisecond for something like having to find something on my cart ( I don't have my own room). I only have 30 minutes and I feel like I hardly get anything accomplished. What's your discipline method? Do you send kids to the principal's office? I've had a few sit on the other side of the room and not get to participate for the day, but some of them don't really care.

This is a great question and topic for an upcoming video. I try to be as proactive as possible to avoid misbehaving. As issues pop up, I use 1-2-3 magic for individuals and a happy/sad board along with the golden paintbrush for class behavior. If a behavior with one student becomes an issue I will give warnings and inform the classroom teacher. If I get to three warnings the student has a time out and I contact home. If I contact home three times for one student then I would loop in the administrators and let them know what I tried. I will try to make a video with more details about this soon! Thank you so much for watching!

I was planning to poll viewers to see if there is interest in this! Is there a grade level you would like to see me cover next?

In what universe are kindergartners ready to paint on the first day? These classes must be much smaller than the ones I service and have much more experience with art supplies.

I painted with tempera cakes with all my students including kindergarten the second day of art. I like to sprinkle in painting early as it is fun and engaging. It’s great leverage when the students enjoy the class and see how fun it can be. My classes may be a bit smaller than average because I am at a title 1 school. I also teach around 65% multi language learners. What is great about being art teachers is that most of us have flexibility in what we teach when. I understand that what works well for me may not work for others. Also, as I mentioned I have an instructional assistant attend with my kindergarten classes which is a complete blessing.
