AMAZING SOUND! | PZL M-18 Dromader - Cockpit Tour, Start-Up, Takeoff, Low Passes | Mosquito Control

- A few days ago i had an opportunity to film something that i never have before... some agricultural aviation action! 4 PZL-Mielec M-18 Dromader crop dusters and 2 An-2s were used in a mosquito control action in the fields and areas around and in Belgrade. In this video i will only focus on the Dromader, An-2 will come in some upcoming videos.
Anyways, it is not an everyday thing to see radial piston engines in action. Nearly 1000hp of pure, earth shaking power! The pilots were very kind to let me film from so up close, and inside one of the planes.
Enjoy in this amazing sound, and quite an interesting sight!

I love ❤️ the sounds of them round engines it was my passion too be a crop duster and I finally got too do it for 3 year with my little Pawnee. Did get too flying a Stearm ones open cock pit 🥶.
When Poland used to make planes!!!
Cheers Brothers!!!
Nice powefull aiplane, Sadly I lost my brother in plane just like that one, in an accident in Salta Argentina 2016. fighting a forest fire.
Sorry to hear that…
I'm sorry for your loss brother, and I'm grateful for men like your brother who take on such dangerous jobs for us.
My condolences for your loss he was doing what he loved im sure not many people get to go doing something they love keep the faith you'll see him again God bless
A well-maintained, good running old workhorse. Kudos to the cameraman.
Thank you!

I started firebombing in radial Droms. Now turbine Garrett powered, the performance is up but the character of the piston radial is gone.
Excellent machine for ag work too and I enjoyed that too. Every radial start was like waking a living beast.
A bit heavy on the controls and very trim sensitive but overall, a wonderful experience and a good safe workhorse.
Much respect for Eastern Block aircraft. Tough as nails.
poljski avion na srpskom nebu, lepo, pozdrav iz Poljske
I listened to that startup about 50 times. Awesome sounds!
You'll love this one.... ua-cam.com/video/Tli5NG4HBsQ/v-deo.html
Its an AN-2 Also the same sound the starter on the Mellennium Falcon makes ..hahah
Musical 🎶 🎵 👍🏻
Mielec 🇵🇱 Poland👍
2000 liters capacity in the hopper. Cockpit cage stressed to about 20 Gs. Ag pilots the world over are the best. My first real job was loading ag chemicals and fueling a Rockwell Thrush Commander. Nothing like those old radial engined beasts. Don’t see many with radials anymore-turboprops have largely replaced them. The bird I serviced had a 600 hp radial from a T-6 trainer.
good polish aviation
Oh boy! Look at the size of the wing on that puppy!
I grew up around these until we turbine converted all of them around 2010. It brings back a lot of memories
Beautiful purpose built aircraft.
One of the best agriculture plane fully made in Poland.Plenty of them was shipped to Canada and USA.
My cousin had a flying service in Arkansas and had several Of these planes. I flagged many hours under Ag Cats, Ah Tractors, etc. nothing like the roar of a radial engine passing over.
Must have been long ago , cause then came auto flaggers after that GPS took over in AG Aviation.
Bullock?

Beautiful polish plane
A few years ago I operated into a small Greek airport and met a military pilot who flew these awesome aircraft, he gave me a tour of one of them and let me photograph them
Really beautiful filming of these magnificent aircraft. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you, i appreciate it!
What a workhorse!! Incredible sound!!
Good for that old man. I am seventy and he looks old enough to be my twin brother. Nice video of him doing what he has been around doing for most likely a lot of years and quite possibly in that same plane. Showing him doing flyby after flyby at 300-400+ feet on the same run over the airfield turning his sprayers on and off was a nice little tribute.
The marvel of it all is that he is still around and still climbing in the cockpit and flying around. Only in Serbia maybe. He nor the plane could probably pass on an annual while insurance and the paperwork to operate would be impossible to obtain in a place like the U.S.
Beloved, look at this engine :)
The Dromader has an ASz-62IR engine, modeled after the war on the Wright R-1820!
So we hear planes like Dauntless, Wildcat, yeah! :)
"Modeled after" is a nice way of saying "stolen design" 🤣
Great camera work. Superb sound. Thanks.
Amazing indeed. Thanks for sharing
I have a little over 2100 hours in an M18-A. It was hard to find a place to park when you were on a busy airport. 58 foot wingspan if I remember.
1st season for me, flying an old Weatherly with an R985. I just love the sound of it warming up early in the morning as the sun comes up.
Love the sound of a PT6 spooling up early in the morning.
Our ag operation still has a weatherly. And an ag truck and a ag wagon. Nothing beats the sound of that old round motor
Wow! That’s Amazing! It’s wonderful that these aircraft still have such an important role in aviation! :)
Look for other polish constructions like ts-11 pzl-230 skorpion (scorpion) pzl-104 wilga and many many others
Well there are still certain number of this version with radial engine. This is Russian type, same is at Antonov-2 But there are more turbo propeller versions. You can recognize them by a very long nose, as this type of engine is much lighter, so in order to keep the center of gravity you must move lighter engine more forward. Otherwise construction of wings and fuselage is unchanged.
@Polski Pilot PZL M-18 is not a Polish construction. It's licensed S-2R Thrush Commander.
@@JarekOd Not clearly. Dromader has a lot of parts of Thrush, but new fuselage, central part of the wing, more powerful engine (Thrush had only 600hp)... Besides the remaining parts had to be redesigned to use metric system, I guess.
Dromader rulez!
Wow, fantastic video of the great beast ;-))
It’s like a tank starting up!
What a wonderful sound!
Fantastic!!
Looks like a Piper Pawne, but with attitude. Love it!
Great plane. Thanks.
Love that sound.
The best plane🤩🤩🤩
master of the skies feeling?
Damn that was awesome 🤘😀
Thank you Beograd!
But don't forget Mielec in Poland, where the plane was created 👍
Awesome!
Beautifull...
M-18 Dromader...The perfect aircraft for those who like to chemtrail on a budget :D
Beastly looking beautiful work of sonic and visual art! Is this a musical instrument or is flight its primary purpose?!?
new title: "Handmade Baritone Organ Tuba with aerodynamic properties"
Love those old radials..
Many thanks for this Video ! 👍
Best regards from Berlin

My Dad and I had 5 round engines and the planes are some of the toughest on the market. Great flying real forgiving for mistakes. Converted 2 over to turbines would not recommend let the factory build them to beef up wing attach fittings, but overall just a great airplane.
Nice close-up details...!
Uf ! Sto dobro pali !
I understand that the Wright R-1820 was license built in USSR. Used in a number of aircraft like the AN-2, the B17, early DC3. Looks alot like the Wright R-1820.
Is not it a flying powertiller?
Love it.
Awesome
Vídeo maravilhoso. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Nasza lala. Nice!!
Nice camera work. Color was good. I get a chance to see a lot of ag aviation here in California.
Honestly looks like something Id rattle up in my shed :)
My dream is to see some of this utility aircrafts in the next MadMax movie....
Ingenuity in various graceful applications that allow our populations to be fed.
Is that the rubber bladed fan like the one used aboard Mi24 Hind helos?
Ha! Its got the same starter as the Millennium Falcon, and an AN-2
This is same radial engine and the same propeller AW-2 as Antonov An-2, Ash Schwezow Ash 62IR 1000hp 735kw 30l displacement 9cyl. started with an inertia starter, but by the Antonov An-2 is the engine covered.
It's still hard to believe that that many moving motor parts change direction at those speeds for hours without flying apart.
i refer to my car engine as a clockwork :D
Soooo pretty
Checked out on a Pezetel Dehavilland Otter today. Shakes like hell, and performs like an animal. Would love to see a Dromader up close.
SORRY I LOVE FLYING MY 502 TURBINE TRACTOR !!!!
I may be spoiled but we had one on our airport. Every morning it woke me up just fore sun up.
That's the same design plane in the movie beyond the thunderdome! Old crop duster
Have an overwhelming compulsion to want to repaint them strange!
Jeeezz...and there was me thinking that the Skyraider was out of service!
Now that was my favorite airplane
Звук двигателя просто песня 👍

Yeah, I use to own a car that sounded like that when idling. Turns out the muffler had holes in it and the ol' 307 was worn out.
I fixed it with a new exhaust system and a freshly rebuilt 396.
Someone has got this engine right on! I believe that it’s a Wright 1820- or something similar to it. Let me know please, great videos.
The engine is Shvetsov ASh-62, quite a beast of an engine with 1000hp
O sistema de partida usa um volante de inércia?
The sounds of a BIG BLOCK...
This is a sky tractor. If you look hard enough you can see the three pinot hook and pto shaft.
Nope, like it says Dominer , copied after Leland Snow’s crop dust , bought by North American Rockwell becoming Thrush Commander, Then Air Tractor.
Which camera was used recording?
Who likes the placement of the fiberglass tank directly aft of the engine and 'fore of the pilot. Maybe a secondary containment tank in case of terrain?
Why it is so gigantic? Its crop duster in the size of P-47
Poland PZL Mielec
The Americans put a P&W PT-6 turboprop on it, then added bomb racks. The Canadians took off the bomb racks ands made into a fire fighting aircraft with floats.
*hard points
Looks a lot like the old Grumman Ag Cat from the 60s
Does anybody know if the radial engine utilized on the Dromader is still in production.
Don't know. There is an engine for sale in my area.
There is a Polish company still making this engine. It has been updated a bit; it now has fuel injection.
0:19 I thought this footage was from DCS or MSFS2020, but it was real😂
Little tuning and will be best bush plane
What minimum power is necessary to rev a four bladed propeller ? What engine it has ?
1000hp
Ash Schwezow Ash 62IR propeller AW-2
That must be one cautious ag pilot, look how old he is....
Most of ag pilots here are older, with a lot of experience! Thank you for watching
Made in Poland 😎👍
if you are like me and came here for eargasm >> 1:30

I spend a good deal of time driving a tractor pulling a shredder keeping an airfield from getting overgrown. Looks like I'd have my work cut out for me at your place for sure.
PUT THE HAM STANDARD PROP ON IT!
Great video, except the cameraman seems to be standing in the mosquito spray as the plane flies over.
It had weird handling issues. Like if you were heavy and tried to make a turn it felt like it wanted to roll over on its back. You had to use full flaps in the turns.
Was that when it was fully loaded, top heavy perhaps? What was it like empty?
@@vumba1331 when it was heavy, yes. Light it handled like any other airplane.
@@mdbryan9525 Interesting, so loaded, the tank location influenced the flight characteristics.
Thanks for getting back to me.
@@vumba1331 you’re welcome. I think that the issue was that as the hopper filled, it pushed the C/G aft. Because it was so deep, it had more of an effect than say an Air Tractor. The forward part of the hopper was pretty straight up and down. The aft portion sloped aft so the fuller it got, the further aft the C/G went. It was a weird sensation. I finally had to contact someone with a lot of experience in the airplane to find out how to turn it when it was full. Without full flaps you were pretty cross controlled. With full flaps (20 degrees) it was no problem at all. The flaps were operated electrically and actuated hydraulically. The switch was under your left thumb on the throttle lever. Once you were used to it, it worked quite well. Pull up off the field and start your turn while simultaneously going to full flaps. As you’re rolling back in on your next run, dump the flaps and move your hand to the spray handle.
@@mdbryan9525 Nothing like experience before getting into the business, you would be quite busy during a run to get it right!
Om low wing aircraft lowering the flaps tends to lift the tail and drop the nose, it does on my microlight, so perhaps when you drop the flaps it moves the centre of gravity/balance forward making the aircraft more stable. Having an aft C of G is not a nice way to fly.
So, does the aircraft pitch nose down when the flaps are deployed?
АШ62ИР?
Да!
