Just wanted to thank you for your video. I have been having one nightmare of a time with an '03 Ford Explorer that I recently purchased and now started having trans problems with it the other day. Happened to notice the air conditioning drip along the trans that you noted, which might explain some of what I'm experiencing. Thanks again.

Thanks! Transmission shop changed filter and fluid after the trans did not shift properly. I discovered they did not fill it properly it was low. Cleaned connector and corrected fluid level and the trans shifts like new! Shop stated I needed an new transmission. Thanks again for posting the video!!!
Most useful information I got. I have used a manual fluid transfer pump ($11 @ advance auto) with a squeeze handle to pump the transmission fluid directly from the transmission fluid container. Thanks again to the producer of this video. Ps. Ford dealer could not (or did not ) locate the fill in valve that screws into fill in hole.
Excellent video. Thanks for the extra tip about coolant. There are also class action lawsuits against ford explorers for transmissions and engines being sold with known defects.

Awesome, thank you brother! Very clear, concise and professional video. I truly appreciate you taking the time to educate us on this. Already replaced my Fathers 05 Mountaineer Engine and Trans at 100k. Having slippage issues at 170k and a 1900 code for dirty fluid/debris. Hoping a filter and flush will solve this. Take care buddy.
I have been looking at these mustang videos to see what problems others are having with their mustangs so I can check mine out. The dealership Transmission fluid flush seems to be a great method I had it done before 30k miles I am at 62k now. I think I can do the fluid change myself by opening the drain plug and unhooking both the cooling lines using a 5 gallon bucket to catch the old fluid and a 2 gallon pump-up sprayer to force new fluid into by attaching it to the return fluid line (removing the spray nozzle so the fluid flows faster in the open line) until I see good color going into the bucket... Watching for over flow at the drain plug controlling it with the pressurized 2 gallon sprayer valve... (in neutral, engine running at idle) (force fluid out of the cooler with compressed air) This is what the machine at the dealership does, with a cleansing fluid added first before the new transmission fluid. I will pay the dealership to do the change if I am able to watch their flush. If they give me some kind of insurance purposes reason to not let me watch I will most likely do it all myself I just need the cleansing fluid whatever that is??? Sound feasible?

I’ve changed so many ford transmissions it’s ridiculous, whether it be on f-150,250,350s between 2010-2015 they’re all junk honestly, all less than 75k miles
We always sent them on there way so I had not seen how this was done until just recently. I was surprised and very disappointed, I believe its a safety issue. I live in southwest AZ and not being able to add transmission fluid could cost you your life!
@460fordtruckman I think Chevy has a few different versions. The FWD cars have a fill plug on the top and a full level plug near the pass side output shaft. You fill them until they leak out the full level plug.

I am Not trying to be rude but perhaps try a change to this step. DO THIS. Push the plunger on the fluid pump to inject atf fluid into the pan. Then slowly pull back on the plunger. If Full, You will see excess fluid be drawn back into pump. When only air is drawn back into the pump, The fluid Will be at the correct level. Now install drain plug. There is No Need to follow the step that drains and drips oil all over the place. Thanks for the Video !
@TheTexasCoder Ford isn't the only one. Chrysler sells the dipstick separate on many of their vehicles. They don't want you to drive around with it in the dipstick tube either. GM has similar ignorant transmissions too.
Thank you so much! It sucks that freaking ford doesn’t just warranty that patch kit, but god forbid them loose any money along with any of the other car companies
Yup they can be a pain for the DIY. But that is what it is these days. Truely it is a sealed system and if there are no leaks then technically there should be no fluid loss. But it makes servicing the trans alot of fun for sure! hah
There is no such thing as a container with seals and gaskets (holes and case breaks) that never seeps or leaks. Nice video. I am unclear at the "now it's full part". Just fill until there is a stream of flow coming back out and wait till it slows down then plug it back up?
@fatbradlehs Yes, it was pretty dark. I made this video while I was trying to diagnose a shifting problem. I didn't want to risk the extra expense of fluid & filter if it wasn't going to fix the problem. I just wanted to get it full, fix the water in the connector problem, & see if it would shift right. It did. I'd recommend changing your fluid if it was shifting good.

I bought a rebuilt 5r55w transmission with rebuilt torque converter for my 2002 Explorer. It holds 12.7 qt per shop manual. Trans shop said dump 12 qts before installing. Shop manual said to start with 9 qts (Online ETE pdf instructions says 8 for what it's worth, then add...). I put in 9 prior to install, checked it and it is running out of the plug when I check it. I flushed and blew out the cooler prior to install. I called the trans shop and the manager said it needs the 12, to add 3 more qts, but I'm afraid of overfilling. I notice the transmissions they stock (in house rebuilds) are light gray, but mine, (they had to order...core? rebuilt trans?) is painted dark metallic gray. I'm wondering if the converter was prefilled and the manager doesn't realize it? Should I force 3 more quarts in? do I have air pocket? I hate to add when it is running out when I remove center plug running at warm idle in park. I think it is level on my lift. I drove it about 5 miles to circulate and it shifted fine, still checks overfull with only 9 quarts in it. I don't want to ignore the manager and void the warranty though. What do I do?

Does one leave the engine running in neutral (vs park) during the check? Once upon a time this would have been a silly question, but there are cars all over the map these days.
My scan tool is generic and not able to measure temp. I do, however, have a laser temp gauge. Can I just aim the gauge at the bottom of the pan, and wait until the pan is in approx the right temp range and then measure fluid level?
After filling up the new oil with the pressure pump, do i have yo remove the transmission adaptor and put the plug right away? Otherwise fluid will drain back up correct?
Okay so im tryna do this because i cant pay someone 80+$ to do this and im out of town, so even though you fill it up with the new fluid; you still let it drain till its empty? Y is that? I just want to make sure because my trans is slipping really bad and i got a 5 hr drive back home in a couple days
I've got a question. I am going to install a Trans cooler and obviously will need to refill the lost fluid and added capacity due to the trans cooler. That being said, do you know if these transmissions have a thermostat that bypasses fluid from going into the trans cooler lines if it is not up to temp or not? If they do, than how can I ensure that fluid went through the lines and into the cooler to make sure that the level is correctly set. Thanks

Can you please tell me were can I buy the tank screw were the oil goes in the tank not the plug but the actual screw because the one on my truck is stripped and when the mechanic has to out oil he has to take the tank apart...

This is what the machine at the dealership does, with a cleansing fluid added first before the new transmission fluid. I will pay the dealership to do the change if I am able to watch their flush. If they give me some kind of insurance purposes reason to not let me watch I will most likely do it all myself I just need the cleansing fluid whatever that is???
Sound feasible?
which is the measure of this Transmission Fluid Fill Adapter?
Thanks for the video. What scanner are you using? I have an Actron AutoScanner Plus CP9580A and it does not display transmission temperature.
Great info no dipstick c'mon guys.
Thx for sharing
To check fluid level ; it needs to be running ? If it is , is in park or neutral.?
thanks for the other info. I presume you leave the car running in park?
I'm going to have to just crawl under my explorer because I don't have a lift. Hope I can do it.
Is there a vid on removing that electronic connector?
How can I flush my petrol tank when wrong liquid has been put into tank
After filling up the new oil with the pressure pump, do i have yo remove the transmission adaptor and put the plug right away? Otherwise fluid will drain back up correct?
I have a 05, if it’s the same what is the tool you used to take out the plug/bolt
Okay so im tryna do this because i cant pay someone 80+$ to do this and im out of town, so even though you fill it up with the new fluid; you still let it drain till its empty? Y is that? I just want to make sure because my trans is slipping really bad and i got a 5 hr drive back home in a couple days
now is this the same thing on a chevy without a dipstick?
I have question pls, I have ford Taurus 2003, the think is I saw the fluid came from the dipstick gear !! What is the problem ?? Tahnks
Thanks
That's a good video...where I can get the pump u use for pump uour oil?
Thanks ☺
man I drive an explorer 02 two days ago I was driving it next day in the morning when I turn it on start to make a noise like an vaccum on the button around the transmission pan and drives no over 20mph I dnt know what to do...please letme know if you know.
Can you please tell me were can I buy the tank screw were the oil goes in the tank not the plug but the actual screw because the one on my truck is stripped and when the mechanic has to out oil he has to take the tank apart...
Where did you get the fill adapter? I have a 07 Mercury Mountaineer with the same set up. Autozone doesn't have it
Thank you for the video, love youtube
My 2002 has always shifted hard from 1st to 2nd. Would the connector be a problem? What shifting problems happen when the connector has water in it?
