I'm really glad to hear the longer, edited videos are doing well, as someone who was really excited when they were announced! I know some people mention them as background content, which I can totally see, but I find them really engaging and tend to watch them when I can give them my full attention. Great stuff, glad they are doing well, really looking forward to seeing more! Also happy to hear you are doing well personally, you have certainly worked for it!
A big part of the reason you are seeing growth is due to the fact that UA-cam bots have changed how they promote channels and videos. The Spiffing Britt pointed out that about two years ago UA-cam started favoring long run content, and is part of the reason why narrative gameplay videos, manga recaps, and story reading videos have blown up in that time frame.
I've discovered Blind recently, his content is really soothing and listening to his Dwarf Fortress gameplays is pretty much like listening to stories. Greetings from Bulgaria and all the best.
UA-cam recently sent me a year-end roundup video where it said I was in the “Top 0.1% of your fanbase,” having watched “43 more times than the average viewer” of your content. Whatever that’s worth, I hope you find this comment useful. Honestly, having discovered your content around early 2023, I’m really happy for your success. You took a big risk, and I’m extremely glad that it paid off for you and your channel. I personally like the new direction overall (tutorials on occasion would be nice as things change, but I believe you already committed to being on top of that). As for the ending of your videos, I can’t really speak to the Caves of Qud video (I don’t really play that game. So I didn’t watch the video. Sorry about that.), but the longer form edited DF videos haven’t really had a problem with the endings in my opinion. I feel like the endings are largely natural conclusions of DF generally (fun ensues and “losing” is inevitable), which I think it about as conclusive and satisfying as a video on this game can be in most circumstances. Also, I work full time (40+ hours) when you stream so I can only really pop in for the main streams rarely, which I think is a contributing factor for why I get so much out of your newer long form edited content. (Again, sorry.) And feel free to keep up the cadence that works for you dude. Would rather you not feel so burnt out if you can avoid it. That all being said, congrats on the new house and on 11 years of streaming dude!!! I hope you’re able to keep it going for as long as you’re able and willing to do so!
I have watched most of your Dwarf Fortress tutorials but I did see you played Songs of Syx in the past have you considered re-visiting it and maybe making some of your excellent tutorial videos/series? :)
Love your content. Been watching on and off for about four years now. And yeah, i came because of dwarf fortress but stayed for the interviews and games i never heared of before ... and dwarf fortress. Good luck and best wishes for the next years.
I really cannot figure out how old I think you are lol, got some early thirties vibes but rocking the silver wolf hair, nope can't even hazard a guess xD
I really enjoy your editing style and can see how all the extra personality and effort you bring to your videos could be incredibly draining. At the end of the day, you need to prioritize what’s best for yourself-both for your well-being and financial stability. Taking care of yourself is the most important thing before you can focus on anything else. Being a content creator is such a wild ride; it’s unpredictable whether taking personal time will have a major impact or not. Also-LOSING 150 SUBS IS CRAZY, MAN! I really appreciate the consistency in your audience’s engagement. It's no big deal to stick to your approach and even push back against an audience that might lean too heavily into parasocial tendencies. While that connection can be beneficial for a creator, it can also be incredibly exhausting. Personally, it’s been a joy watching you grow, even in the shorter time I’ve been part of your audience, and an even shorter time as an active community member. Although I haven’t been very involved in streams or the Discord, I can confidently say it’s been exciting to follow your videos from the production stage to their release. In general, I’d love to see you branch out and do more of what you want. Of course, I understand how important money and viewer retention are. Maybe there’s room for “you” days-days where you play or create just for yourself and maybe happen to share it with your audience. I’m not trying to tell you how to do things-that’s not my place-but honestly, you deserve a break from any monotonous cycles. That break could make your content even better because enjoying what you’re doing will naturally come through in your work. Your health and happiness will always make your content shine brighter. Recently, the developer behind Creatura (a beautiful evolution simulation game) and Gardener: Master of Trees and Flowers explained to me that art is separate from a product. He said it so well: while creating videos as a product for an audience is important, your art-what you make for yourself and for like-minded people-is always more meaningful. Something made out of love is always going to bring you better memories than a slog of vicious burnout.
Have you considered looking into an editor? May help reduce the workload a little from time to time. I'm sure you've considered it, but was curious. Appreciate your content, and thank you for the update on things!
It would cost a lot of money. I'd also lose some creative control. Editor's are not cheap if you want someone good. I can afford my salary and a mortgage but if I had an editor I'd suddenly lose half my income.
It has been great to watch your maturation over the last few years as it relates to your audience. TBH I almost left at one point but stuck with you because I could always see a core of truth/honesty in you and I didn't want to lose the content and the soothing vibe I get from it. Well done. :)
I like the change of your content and style and wish you all the best! For me, this video was informative. Will watch the Caves of Cod video soon now ;-)
Very strange, I think the UA-cam algorithm failed me in regards to the Caves of Qud video. I am very interested, but I have not gotten a recommendation or notification that it was released. I'm going to manually find it and watch it after this one.
Hi, love your videos, I joined after Godly Tombs, that video is epic! I am super excited about video about retrieving Blockade's legendary shield, more than I had ever been for any of the Marvel movies. And congratulations on getting your own home))
Im kinda happy to see someone I do not know that I somewhat supported a lil bit getting his goal little by little, unlike me right now stuck in life no other choice because people around me need me to stay where am I right now. Congrats Blind. Im onimarumasa in twitch btw hehe
Haveing subbed a weekish maybe more ago i really like you're dwaf fortress gameplay and enjoy seeing gortusk and godly tombs and you have made me really consider streaming myself and doing youtube in the style of a story teller for games like total war or dwarf fortress
Man, as someone who just found your youtube channel in recent years it's so strange to hear you talk about your channel in the past; you sound so pleasant and comfortable to listen to nowadays, and I am glad you're doing better! Excited to hear that somewhat edited longer videos are to stay at least for a time, looking forward to more CoQ videos.
I'm extremely bi polar and have had some serious attitude and mood problems in the past. I'm in a better place now but sometimes folks from the past pop up to criticize me based off things I said in the past. They are well within their rights to do so but I still feel the need to mention it in these updates. Mental health is a long term struggle and there are accessible archives of my issues on this channel. People still see that stuff to this day. It hurts but I feel alright leaving them there. It shows how far I've come.
Hey man I'm older than you and can fully relate to growth and maturity over time. I was so poorly behaved and immature I still find it embarrassing over a decade later. Can't even imagine having had an online audience during that time and count myself lucky that I didn't. Cheers to the next adventure man.
I noticed your comments about the benefits of the change you made in your content, in the first third of the video, you didn't really talk about satisfaction or pride in your work. Just that it gets clicks, views, growth, etc.. I think you should definitely be proud of what you made. I was really impressed with how well you intermixed explanations of mechanics/etc into your storytelling without getting confusing or lost in the details. I started following you on Twitch back in 2020-ish and the personal growth you mention is definitely apparent to me. You deserve to be proud of yourself, don't let the charts have all the fun.
Cool, not only is your long form story part of my favorite youtube finds of 2024. I also get a creator with transparency about how they created content and plans moving forwards.
I am excited that Adventure mode is around the corner. I'm always watching for patch notes, DF news, and updates from you and Tarn. Congrats on the mortgage! Are you planning on making the shift from Patreon to your newsletter? I've just been waiting for a good opportunity to pay for a year.
I don't really get the income aspect of maintaining a channel like this. I intend to make a channel with a different ID, but I'm retired. I'm doing it for personal recreation, and it will cost me nothing but time, pocket change, and perhaps a loss of self-esteem. I enjoy this channel because of the content and the personality. So, Blind mentioned making $8 for a video, and making two a day. I suppose that's not static because further income trickles in with time, and that adds up when there's a big library of videos. I love the idea of being your own boss, but this seems like such an uphill battle.

Congrats :). I really like the new video formats
Heres one for the algorithm!
*air plane noises*
Yummy nummy :)
Thanks a lot, man. I got into Dorf Fort thanks to you and always enjoy your vids, especially the long format ones. Keep it up
Keep at it! been a fan for a while and youre one of my fave creators to watch at the end of the day
Cheers Blind ☕🍻🥃 I watch what I find fun and you make fun stuff.
Glad your doing good and wishing you success
You've put a tremendous amount of work into this channel and into growing as a person Blind, and it shows. You deserve every bit of your success!

Thank you for commitioning artists for your thumbnails!

here is a comment to feed the yt algorithm
Your complete transparency and openess is a huge plus for me. I never miss a blog post either, great stuff!

@@BlindiRL Thank you very much for the response, Blind! I worried that was the case, but can't know if you don't ask, right? Cheers man!
btw did not get the caves game recommended- only now after watching this vid its in my recomms.
That's weird
Fantastic news! Long may it continue.
Promote the video !!

Another comment for the UA-cam algorithm thingy! Love your content!
so awesome to hear this. Praise the new era

I've heard that from a few people so I'd say it checks out.
congrats
Very interesting to see the data of the channel.

I have the footage and associated art.

Thank you.

It is really hard to be satisfied in your own work. I am satisfied by the positive reception to my work however.
@ you can be satisfied in yourself for having done it.

I've always been really transparent. To heck with secrecy.

Congrats on the mortgage!
Are you planning on making the shift from Patreon to your newsletter? I've just been waiting for a good opportunity to pay for a year.
I'm no longer pushing or promoting the Patreon. Basically if you want content in exchange for funds the blog is the place to be.
Great stuff man!
Love all the content and I don’t even play DF currently
Full main storyline playthrough of Caves of Qud would be amazing.
Let's see if it's something I can pull off.
Im a huge fan of qud, but to be honest, I thought it would never reach a 1.0 its been being built for so long lol.
Algorithm food
bless the algorithm

One possible reason for underperforming for the CoQ video? I haven't seen it yet, at all. It hasn't been promoted, even though I'm subscribed (yay).
panjang panjang bang
UA-cam actually recommended your caves of qud video to me, but i didnt watch it cause i didnt realize it was yours :(

I will admit I stopped showing up to streams because of your..more brash and condescendingly dismissive responses. But I'll give it another shot.
