Did you travel the Steens Mountain Loop? You travel several dozen miles (yes, a gravel road) and have views of the Alvord Desert way below from 9,500 feet. (Also super for amateur astronomers who pack their scopes up to various ridges and campgrounds.)
Can you imagine traveling way out there to settle? Brave folks. Thank you for sharing this video about Frenchglen! I was curious about the name as well!
Hi Lawain! We pass through Frenchglen often -- it's a great route (205) south into Nevada. While passing through the area, we did this video (some 20 miles south of Frenchglen): ua-cam.com/video/lmmqEaUnFWI/v-deo.html
We met a woman who works at the general store and also offers astronomical ventures up on Steen's Mountain Loop. Sorry, don't remember her name, but it was pretty recent (August 2019)...
@@goldenphoenixpublish Nope, we were on our way up the Steens and the little store in FG had 1 half case of Obsidian Ale sitting in back. That was the last beer in town.
Hi "Nice Idea" - Vanessa enjoyed meeting you! Glad you enjoyed the vid -- we have a whole series on our trip to Chile. Check out the playlist: ua-cam.com/video/Z87BDgSYDtc/v-deo.html
Years after doing this video, and being without our teardrop trailer. we had a fine vegetarian version of the evening group meal, then spent a night in one of the second floor rooms. Time travel to a distant past in terms of accommodation...

@@barryjohnson5752 Hi Barry, Last time French Glen we met a young lady working at the general store. At the time we were touring with our astronomy friend (we have an astro playlist this channel). Turned out she (name unremembered) lead folks up Steens Loop to do night sky tours. El Marko and I setup his scope in a campground further below during that trip. Sadly, it was mosquito season so we took off next day for another spot (off Hwy 140 near Walker Pass). The view of the salt flats below the loop were awesome and, had there been more daytime shade up there, we would have done our observing from 9,500 feet!
Lived there from 2000 through 2014. Taught there 8 years (k-1-2-3). Beautiful town!
Me and my husband stayed out there over Christmas. Amazing experience. Wild horses, antelope and cattle drive on the hwy. Desolate!

My dad went to first grade in that school in 1950.
"One room" school houses rule!

Yes! I’ve been there 3 or 4 times. Rode my motorcycle there once and camped out.
Nice ride out to the Roundbarn as well (no doubt). Here's a vid we did on that: ua-cam.com/video/u3r58hrOzO4/v-deo.html
Dan Arntt and I bought Fenchglen out of beer one time in 1997.
Where were you and Dan out of to drink them out of?

The hotel is much improved from when I lived there with Mr. & Mrs. PRUITT IN 1956.
Hi Ron, Was that before it became an Oregon landmark?

World famous cookies well now that is something ... He obviously didn't know that he was talking to the cookie queen
Hi NW87 (we know who you really are!) With your endorsement, Vanessa is now ready to put on her `Cookie Queen` crown!
The hotel is an Oregon State Park and so publicly owned.
Thank you Miss Ricka. The gentleman Vanessa spoke with manages the facility as a concessionaire.

Frenchglen doesn't have a capital G in the middle.
I am a fan of resonator guitar, however this intro music was annoying.
Original bottleneck slide music -- my only example of such. Personally like it! (But not for everyone...)
Jumpy camera. Not informative.
How 'bout the music?
