I’ve learned the hard way on quartering towards, steep angle and moving.
Im not sure it was an option but I’d much rather choose the quartering away once he walked by. Those straight down angles are also tough since it can be tough to get both lungs. Just a tough spot there

Disagree. The deer is dead without a doubt and more then likely was laying close by. Like they said someone could've easily found it and kept it. That's out of his control. The only thing I would've done differently was going looking so soon. He should let that deer lay and he probably would be grip'n & grin'n. Those shots are lethal,it was public land probably pressured and if he would've waited that buck would've busted him sure as shit. Everyone don't have the luxury of hunting prestige parks where mature bucks just mindlessly walk by ya and give ya broadside or quartering away shots!

Don’t you dare blame the Tracking Dog for not finding the deer with the drone!!!
It may very well have been a hindgut animal, which neither Dog nor drone will find…
The dogs make an incredible difference in recovering wildlife for hunters… Instead of dissing, the dog, you should have enough class to work together for one common goal, which is recovery of wounded large game!
Don’t you dare make yourself look better by dissing something that a threat to you! Shame on you !

The use of drones to spot or hunt animals of any kind is illegal in many states. The use of drones to harass animals is illegal everywhere. If they change direction, stop eating or begin to move in the presence of a drone, you are harassing them. If you make money of any kind with a drone you are required to be licensed. Don’t make crap shots and if you lose an animal, hire a tracking dog.

It blows my mind after watching your videos how many hunters are taking so many unethical shots.
Bow hunters pride themselves (well, most bow hunters) take pride in their practice routines and make sure they take ethical shots when taking an animal.
I'm seeing now why more and more land owners are not allowing bow hunters to hunt their properties anymore.
Thanks, guys, for the share and thanks to the hunter for sharing how you are NOT supposed to do it.
Go practice, bud, and next time have the patience to make that ethical shot 👍

    • @gtchalie5038
      @gtchalie5038 Рік тому +4

I'm thinking you're not a bowhunter. Because that was an ethical shot. I've taken many deer that way. He said the deer moved as he shot. That happens ALL the time. Maybe that was the only shot he was given. And deer are always going to move unexpectedly. Can't plan on that. Sure it sucks. I don't gun hunt, but heard of many deer lost during gun season. Just seemed unfair to paint all bowhunters as unethical. I've had a good year with five arrows shot and five recovered deer. I like this channel, but this is the nature of his business, finding the most difficult recoveries. I'm with you tho, I hope more ethical shots are taken. We all think we can make a killing shot, then mother nature steps in! Have a great day!

@@gtchalie5038 totally agree on everything you said and replied to the other guy, I’ve shoot a couple buck high behind shoulder and it’s a place that’s like a air pocket and it’s a threw and threw hit but never got him, atleast not that day because later in the wk I got the same buck chasing doe that I’d shot earlier. Also in my opinion is broad heads, I do not use mechanical broadheads in my own experience and opinion in the decades I’ve bow hunted since 1982. I lost a.lot of deer just because of deflection and penetration , not down grading them, just my opinion. Hey happy hunting to you all out there and good luck.! 👍

Be willing to let him walk if there is not a reasonable shot that you know through experience that you can make.

Usually a few days later, watch for the buzzards, Crows, and hawks. They give away the spot where that deer died.
I also think after 48 hrs, in those temps, you wouldn't be able to pick up a heat signature.

Last season I found a gut shot deer that was 2.88 miles away. I can’t guarantee a drone wouldn’t have found him however the entire search party was blown away how far we went. We crossed 12 different properties and two rivers.
The gut shot deer your searching for will takes days to a week to die.
At this point it’s all about effort. Keep broadcasting your search with your drone and you would have eventually found him. He most likely died in one of those creeks and lost thermal.

A good dog would still have a chance of recovering that deer, we recover almost 80-90% of gut shot
Deer with a dog. If the hunter would have let the deer lay 12-18 hrs it might have been found in his first bed. Tbh shot looked alittle intestinal which takes alot longer to die then gut shots. Thermal isnt going to do anything at 48hrs, but a dog works of interdigatial gland, plus a good dog can wind a dead deer along ways. Mines winded a deer 100-150yds out.

that's probably the worst shot angle you could take, for a guy who seems so knowledgeable about deer its almost inconceivable! At least a going away you could angle it into his boiler room, also depends on broadhead construction, a single bevel head can break bone and hit vitals, a mechanical can't.

I have really mixed feelings about using drones like this. On one hand, by using a drone and a trained operator, a wounded deer might be recovered. On the other hand, by having this technology available, a crappy hunter might take a low-percentage shot with the thought that the hit might be good enough so that a drone could recover the animal. I'm a FAA licensed pt 107 drone operator with about 1500 hours in drones and have been a hunting Guide, but I'm not sure drones have any place in hunting. My personal opinion right now is that drones should not be allowed for hunting or recovering purposes, but even though, I wish you good luck.

The funny thing was while in the area hunting one day, I decided to check where in the past there was often a scrape in front of an old treestand that I had not used in 4 years. When I wlaked over to check the condition of the stand, while stepping over the falldowns I almost stepped on the deers antlers. 7 yards from my stand. If you think you can tell the age of a deer by smelling a tree rub then you are a new kind of crazy! I have seen 10 points rub trees as small as a nickel, and I’ve also seen 4 points rub trees the size of a quarter!

Well, don’t take the shot if you think it’s not 100%. Or get some shooting lessons, sad if the animals is leaking for 48 hours…

Another victim of buck fever !!
He said he "holds out for the big deer", yet took a terrible shot.
    Lesson learned ???

Just tell him where all the deer are and say " shot another". How do you know he's dead if you don't know where he is. I've seen rabbits the next day walking around with an arrow thru the neck. UA-cam has videos of deer doing that too.

A deer can absolutely survive a gut shot, most of the time, they hit water because it burns

I helped a neighbor track a gutshot buck. That buck did some very unpredictable things and even without being pushed travelled 1.7 miles. Once they saw he was gutshot they backed out and waited a day before resuming. He didn't bed down at all until he had gone about 1.6 miles, then he bedded several times in the same general area.
