I feel the same. The fantasy is just gone somehow. All the characters are just super pretty humans fighting for some tech kingdom or so. 12 was the beginning and as a big final fantasy fan, it broke my heart, that I played 13 for only an hour before I lost interest, as well as 15. I am currently trying on 16, but the limited action gameplay is just so... Mind numbing somehow. The story presentation is quite impressive though.
So basically you don’t count almost any of the games after 10 for one reason or another. I mean I have my misgivings with the series and I would tend to agree with your general sentiment, but given all of your nitpicks hang ups I can’t really take this analysis very seriously.
I love: VI, VII, IX, X. I like: VIII, X-2, XII. I don't like: XIII series, XV, XVI, FFVII Remake/Rebirth. So Final Fantasy is basically dead to me too. I never played the MMORPGs. I have some small replies to things you said. Your complaint that XII "was supposed to be a mobile game" isn't valid IMO because it's an ad-hominem, it ended up being a very large and fleshed out game compared the other entries in the series. It's flawed but it has some very strong points, like the script and writing (not the truncated story, though). Your complaint about X-2 isn't valid either IMO because Tidus doesn't appear anywhere in X-2, and there is a very deep thematic/world building reason why Shuyin looks like Tidus, that's actually very relevant to Yuna's story and character arc throughout the game. I think the writing in that game is as good as the story of X, I consider it a worthy lighthearted sequel to the overall grim and sad story of X.
I agree. Why is yakuza infinite wealth more of an rpg than a modern final fantasy game. Btw I must admit. Even as someone who hates the story. FF7 rebirth is a 10/10 rpg. I’m sorry. Don’t know if you’ve played but it’s a real final fantasy game.
Can you elaborate a bit on that? I played Remake and I was very disappointed by so many elements of it that I had no interest in Rebirth, but for some reason I'm still spoiler-averse incase I do decide to play it someday, so I avoided even looking at reviews or critiques of Rebirth. Is Rebirth significantly different from Remake?
@ here’s my honest opinion. Spoiler free. Firstly. When it comes to the story. It’s hit and miss and even finds itself having to back track on certain things that happened in remake. That is all. The story is the weakest element. But not because it not interesting. But because we all would prefer if the multiverse trash never happened. Now as far as gameplay goes. It does really well. The weaknesses in the original remake system are fixed and battle system is solid. Exploration hasn’t been this interesting in a ff game since ff9. If you see it. You can touch/climb/explore it. Not only do you get a world to explore. You get various means of transport that you actually control. You will find yourself saying “can I go up here” try it and be like “no way. I can”. Most freedom in any game in the series. Everything you expected in a final fantasy game from the 90s early 2000s is here and probably the best it’s ever been (due to technological advancements of course) Although the story is weakened by its additions. The character interactions and execution of the story itself is something you have not seen since ff10. The character interactions are flawless. You’ve probably heard the mini game thing. It’s not an issue if you’re a true final fantasy fan. They are way better than mini games of final fantasy past and you can just ignore most if you don’t want strongest items or weapons in the game etc. older games were worse for locking gear behind impossible mini game pay walls. So it’s not anywhere near as bad as games of old on that front. Final Fantasy remake should not have been made. If it was shaved down to 5 hours and was at the beginning of this game. We probably would have a completely different opinion on this project

Um he was mentioned did you not see the flashback where he supposedly was still alive even though he was a dream made up in OG 10?
So... you speak with buffalo bill vibes. Is that in purpose?
That was an old Mic set up so not much I could of done with that

Never played Rebirth yet so have no idea on it
