  • A day tour to Failaka Island (جزيرة فيلكا). After three years of living in Kuwait, I've finally reached this destination. Despite being an almost desolate place, Failaka Island (جزيرة فيلكا) features a weird, yet interesting, mixture of things to see and do.

      I grew up in Kuwait and was 8 years old when Saddam invaded. It was a horrible experience - soldiers were going door to door looting and murdering anyone they wanted to. When I heard gun fire I thought our neighbors were doing fireworks!

    Very nice video , I was born in failaka island in 1961 lived there till I was 18 then moved to the city for school and work but every weekend had to go there to see my parents and enjoy the time away from noise and traffic, Failaka is older than kuwait itself and had been inhibited long before kuwait but after the invasion of Kuwait by Sadam the nazi the government of kuwait granted sadam his wish to destroy the island ,and regarding the beach Failaka had the most beautiful beach ever and the water used to be crystal clear in the calm days you can swim any where in the island, people use to come every weekends from the city to have a good time in the island there was no hotels they just sleep on the beach it was like paradise to me, I live in the States now and miss that island everyday but not this island,this one is fake

      Hello Sal, thanks for taking your time to leave such an interesting comment and sharing your personal experiences.
      Going by yours and other comments, I have a feeling that Failaka island was indeed different in the past, and Iraqi invasion brought with it and irrevocable change to island and its inhabitants.
      I concede that my vlog is extremely superficial and by no means should be taken at face value - after all I only spent less than a day there. So you opinion can be entirely discredited.
      Thanks again for sharing your story.

      Hello Salem, thanks for your comment. I forget where I saw it in Kuwait, but there were blueprints and models of refurbished Failaka island - a tourist destination with a developed infrastructure and facilities. It looked imposing. Can the Kuwait government make the first-class resort out of the island? The potential is there, I think.

The trip takes one hour and usually leaves twice daily, and timetables change with the tides. Visit or call the ferry office for the current schedule. Nice Vlog... i hope u had a good time on the Island. Although u could get a rented boat where u can stay on the Island for about as much time as you want really... it pisses me off that u only had around 10 mins on each Zone or Land before heading back. Failaka Island is gorgeous it has landmarks from the "Dilmun Civilization". The texture found on the old structers , are Parts of the Dilmun Civilization... there is also olden statues & 2 temple's recalling to "Mesopotamians" when theh settled in Failaka Island atleast that was 2000 BC. "Ikarus" is also an older version of Failaka... failaka is derived from Arab as a pronounciation. Sometime at 312 BC when Greeks lived on this Island before Mesopotamians , this is when they called it "Ikarus Island" as in Greek Mythology there is a hero called "Icarus". After all the Colonies that had settled in the Island... Kuwait goverment called it Failaka Island. There used to be 2300 Residents in this Island before the War & atleast 4 Schools aswell... the Destroyed Houses are marks of Kuwaiti Residents that used to live in this Island not just in Kuwait City or in Kuwait... this is the only Island among the other 8 islands in Kuwait that used to have Residence & People lived in 👌🏼

      Hello Omar, thanks a lot for your comprehensive comment! I wish there had been more history and facts to the Icarus excursion, because like you've mentioned in your comment, the island has a long and vibrant past.
      Listen, you seem to be a knowledgable person when it comes to Kuwaiti history. Could you recommend other interesting places / landmarks that are worth seeing for their cultural value? Thank you.

    • @omaralajmi1551
      @omaralajmi1551 5 років тому +1

      @@edtechii Of course you are welcome... it is my pleasure to share this History with you. Alright lets begin with Museums... there are atleast 5 Historical Museums in Kuwait that offers most of the local heritages , cultural exhibits & history... the main 2 biggest are ( Dickson House Museum ) the other is ( Kuwait National Museum ). As for Landmarks & interesting Architectures aswell as one of the oldest markets that been around for 50 years or so on is ( Mubarakeya also known as Souq Mubarakeya ) you may have visited this place it's mostly attractive to tourist mainly because its Olden Architectures & the olden civilizations how used to live & work in Kuwait almost 60 years ago... there are also many new Modern Museums & few Art Museums of Kuwait's old heritage so far. ( Bait Al Othman ) is a well known if not the most viewed & the most Cultural Exhibits in many ways like How people used to Work , Play , do Business , Owning Shops... all are those are landmarks & heritage that's interesting to View specialy make a video about i suggest u visit Bait Al Othman it is located in Hawally. Try it out , this will atleast take half a day to break up into pieces. The ( Red Fort ) is also a Landmark Palace in kuwait city... umm also you should have or maybe visited (Shaheed Park) it's literally an Amazing Park to shoot a single long-ranged video , The Opera Center aswell... as much as i know of that is the most known heritage places & landmarks... there is also a House located in Qurain Area called ( Bait Al Qurain ) it's basically a landmarked house on the aftermath of the Iraqi invasion back in 1990's. Although u should give it a try because they made sure everything stayed as same with some improvments from the War... but the house is probably the furthest location from Kuwait City. It's a small house tour of a known Family Residents that stood in the house while the Invasion was on all the time basically... i recommend it to you because there are pictures of the men that defended their house & you can document that aswell as searching and reading about it... it's probably the only House in Kuwait up today that still has some Aftermath from the Iraq War 😊 I hope this helps & enjoy your stay. I think this comment probably covers & sums up most of the best places to visit in Kuwait atleast for Heritage & History. Keep up the good videos 👌🏼
      ( Since it is also Summer now i'd like you to know that there is a Beach City almost like a whole town called Khiran if you heard of it, the Man made Beach is Awsome )
