Paul West and Michelle Bower, who both work as brand strategists, moved to this elegant Georgian townhouse in Stepney Green, east London, from a Victorian maisonette in Stoke Newington. When he was profiled by The Modern House, Paul explained the influence of the cool, calming aesthetics of Ilse Crawford on the interiors - pared-back, yes, but with a respect for the building’s bones that allowed them to breathe. This pairing of simplicity and sophistication with a profound admiration for the structure’s history that defines their new home too - and the way the couple live in it. The house has “been here since 1717,” Paul explains in our latest film. “It’s 305 years old. We had a huge amount of responsibility to not mess the place up.”
How have they managed it? Simply by “trying to figure it out in different seasons and just listening to the building,” Michelle says. And it’s something they continue to do, Paul says, as he takes us through a day in the life of this extraordinary building.

I hope you keep making these videos, they are so beautifully done. It tells a story of a home so beautifully.
Some of us don’t like‘bright’ . The natural light here is wonderful, atmospheric and calm. Very well done and understated interior. Thanks.
I've watched this episode twice now - such a beautiful and calming home, with owners who clearly love being there. Wonderfully produced episode.
Beautiful - we’re simply custodians of the buildings we occupy.
The quiet decor lets the architecture take center stage. Lovely.
Calm. Beautiful. Skilfully restored, coloured and furnished.
Lots of respect and love for the building and its history.
Classic, danish furnitures and tasteful details.
Bravo!!
What a brilliant episode, great to see a normal couple speak about their home.
The interior and home itself is an absolute dream!! Soothing...
I poured over every detail, but it's the colour that really captivated me. What a gorgeous house.
What color? Color blind? House is so miserable and dark!!!!
@@VC-mo5yg It's fine to disagree, but why the aggression over something so minor? If you react like this to a comment about colour, how do you handle real problems? There's colour, it's a muted colour palette that I find very soothing. Perhaps you ought to consider doing some soul searching about your attitude.
@@sugarbomb26 your comment is so sad, aweeee. GET A LIFE!
Charming and calm home ✨ And that staircase!
When you put your heart into designing or restoring the house, you will become one with her. This is the perfect example.
Love those windows, the brightness and the wainscoting. Simplicity is the greatest elegance, I like the minimalist set. Brilliant.
Watched this lovely couple on “for the the love of kitchens” it was by far my favorite episode ❤
Yes. I saw them also in For The Love Of Kitchens. I love the show and repeat watching their episode. They have a lovely home which fits them perfectly. ❤
I hope you continue to make these beautiful, soulful videos that capture the heart of these homes and their occupants. Really enjoyable to watch. Thank you
Loved the interior….very calming
What a gorgeous home, the respect this couple has for its history is admirable! Well done.
What a beautiful house...and obviously much loved...
The house is so beautiful! Minimal but lots of details in the structure
I absolutely love that look! Minimal in furniture and decor, but lots of architectural and interior detail. It's such a beautiful juxtaposition! makes for a very calm yet stimulating atmosphere.
Gorgeous! the windows are just magical, an art all of themselves.
what a gorgeous house and beautifully made video! I know this is made to draw customers to their service of selling homes but I'm here for the atmosphere of the video haha
Relaxing Time. A beautiful house recreated with much sensibility. Really pleasant the somehow Dickens atmosphere.
Lovely. Just lovely. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful lamps in this house.
Love the minimalist vibes.
Muchas gracias por mostrar esta reliquia tan bien conservada.
Stunning!
Loving the hifi setup, very classy.
I just subscribed. Thanks for the thoughtful quiet presentation. Gorgeous home, loved the music as well. Cheers!
Beautiful and peaceful.
Happy for you. Enjoy!
Tasteful and mindful, memorable episode.
Impeccably authentic, Robin Witting
Stunning
Serene, thank you x
Beautiful house, beautifully shot.
Quite a lovely home.
A beautiful house no question, but such houses require owners with this kind of sensitivity to and respect for its history.
Beautiful ❤
Excellent taste in HiFi as well. They have made the house theirs but remembered they are but a part of it´s history in doing so.
Beautiful love the neutral colors makes it soft and cozy looking 💛 she is beautiful looks like actress liv Tyler 😄
gorgeous
Equilibrio, armonia, bellezza, buongusto ,grazie.
beautiful
very sweet!
What a stunning channel
Lovely... and refreshing not to see knock-throughs and all-glass extensions. I read a few of the comments on light levels and colour, and whilst F+B may not be to everyone's taste, it is Paul and Michelle's house.
Amen to your "refreshing" comment.
dream home
How lovely. Took us 3 yrs to decide on kitchen units cf light. A pullava! ,
I love Georgian/Colonial (here in US) architecture. Just perfect amount of light and size/proportions of the rooms. Course, I can't even afford my apartment, so will just watch and dream....
If you don't have a dream
And I don't have a dream
How you gonna make your dream come true ...
Clearly you have taste (:-))))
Красивые люди живут красивую жизнь! Очень приятно смотреть на вас. Всё гармонично❤️
Nice...
Beautiful home but dark.
Can someone please tell what the name of background music is? I keep on re-watching this for the simplicity & the background piano. It's so beautiful. I don't know if it is popular piece or not. Does anyone knows the name?
❤❤❤
Great house - when can we move in?!
The soft colours are lovely.
I’d remove the small table in the hallway as it’s difficult to walk past with a bike.
I have a buggy and scooters inmine. I find that at night anyone trying to get in or upstairs kills themselves. I have bruises myself. Burglaries in 30 years ... None !!!!
Ps my bike is in an outbuilding (shed)
Love the bulbous table lamps
Such a beautiful home although oddly disconnected choice of countryside soundscapes as I often drive past this house which sits on a very busy road
Just think, 2030, right soundscape, roads will be full of EVs...
@@colincampbell437 this is true and perhaps not even that far away!
Should have more coverage. Did not show all the rooms.
How do you take care of a home? It’s something I’ve never thought about before 😌
Turn some lights on!!!
Looks like they deliberately dimmed the lights to make it look 'arty.' 😁
I would love to know what paint and colours they used.
@sarahlamprell-jarrett989 - thanks so much for watching! Paul and Michelle used Farrow and Ball's 'OId White' throughout the house, and the kitchen cabinetry is painted in a Farrow & Ball x Liberty Archive color called 'Pantalon'.
@@inigo_films Thank you for the information
I swear this house was on a remodel show renovating the kitchen wasn’t it?
Owww wonder how many ghosts are in that 300 yr old house 😛
Sorry I just heard this comment on a repeated view, "just listen to the building". I see so many instances where old bricks have been painted, where cement has been used instead of lime ... And they say we have damp problems and inject useless chemicals into the walls ...
The house is crying out ... It wants to breathe ... Don't paint me, don't use cement...
Listen to the house ....
Did I see a green in the staircase? And also a brown on the floor boards of the stairs? Would love to know those colors please
@markgussy8009 - thanks for watching! The panelling on the banisters is painted in Old White, and the upper walls and stair underside are painted in Slipper Satin, both by Farrow & Ball. The floor and steps are painted in Pantalon by the Farrow & Ball x Liberty collection.
@@inigo_films thank you
Beautiful home, I really love the chair the home owner is sitting in, anyone know the manufacturer?
@uwtb3043 - thank you for watching! It's the 'Spanish Chair', by Børge Mogensen, designed for Fredericia in 1958.
@@inigo_films Thanks for the info its a beautiful chair that reminds me of the early 20th century Morris chairs.
What is a brand strategist and how much do they make? Damn this must be extremely expensive!!
What is this? 2:33
Preserves n Astringents. Dr Virna Pandey
Seems very dark.
Not enough lighting to really show off the amazing interior space.
Sure no principalities here?😂❤
it is a dark hause!????
Reimbursement due
The lighting in this video is really poor. You can't see much detail.
is it just me or is it just DARK?
So dark you can't really see the house, I agree
The bedroom is full of light. I would like a darker bedroom!
I think it is dark intentionally
This is a very old house. Georgian! So it will be dark on the lower part of the house.
This property is probably listed. It is in Spiterfields in London.
I think it's just the way it was shot. I can't imagine a south facing room with that many large windows being that dark in reality.
There are no window treatments. I'd be afraid my neighbors could see me. Not impressed.
The windows have shutters.
Jealous.
I would love to be enthusiastic about this but I'm so over neutrals. A gorgeous house like that in head to toe cream and beige : ( And i'm sorry but "brown" is not a pop of color : ( : (
Honestly blah blah blah it’s a dark dank place yes old very old but unless you’re super rich I don’t really care about waking up in a dark dank place it would not be for me I like sunlight!
It's Just dark , and gloomy .
It's a beautiful house but needs some colour IMO, seems rather gloomy and lifeless.
Why is this house so freaking dark? Do they have no lights there? For such a historic and very expensive home, it is so depressing and off putting for anyone. No wonder these folks are miserable and smug.
Why are you so freaking rude! It's their home so their choice. I think you haven't quite understood the video, try listening or perhaps just accept it's not for you.
@@milkshake3350 , l am sorry you cannot be open minded and patient to consider an opposing view. This is a free forum platform for viewing entertainment purposes and many different people all over the world have differing and objective opinions. May I suggest if one cannot accept nor tolerate this, in your singular purview, then perhaps one would be so inclined to reconsider not turning to the UA-cam platform.
@@VC-mo5yg reread your original post, its rude! Of course people have different opinions and are perfectly entitled to express them but rudeness is never cool. Have a nice day.
Great curation of one’s home….but, the background piano music is sublime….may I know the title please?
@@milkshake3350 lol, aweeeee, so sad. GET A LIFE.
Dreary interior, zero character, warmth or charm. A wasted opportunity.
50 shades of mate white decorated with empty mate vases. Also their voices are boring.
What a boring, monochrome interior.
Too dull and dark no real style
Such a beautiful home to live in.
Beige, beige ,beige, beige, beige MORE beige. Shadow. Exposure
