Canon is also backwards compatible with lenses. If you use an EF to R mount adapter, your lens based image stabilization works just fine and in combination with IBIS as an added benefit.
the sony comparison to the R8 is more expensive because it’s a better camera not to mention the fact that over time you will spend less or break even when you consider the lens prices of sony and canon
My bigger concern with the R8 wasn't mentioned, the lack of a mechanical shutter. Granted rolling shutter is pretty minimal with that sensor, I'd still want a mechanical shutter to reliably capture action
I just bought my second R6mkII body for $1999 after Canon dropped the price. The R8 lacks IBIS which is one of the features that makes the R6mkII great for video and shooting with non-IS lenses.
I really wish the R8 had a joystick on the back of the body to move the focus point. I’ve been so spoiled by having one on the R10, it’s probably the only thing that’s kept me from upgrading
A7 iii in the same price segment has 5axis in body stabilization Slot for a bigger battery And a huge variety of lenses from third party manufacturers. I don't understand what benefit it has over the SONY cameras except for the Fully Articulated Screen?
You forgot arguably the biggest difference. The R8 has a single memory card slot while the R6 has two, which is why the R6 is common among professionals while the R8 isn't. Doesn't affect image quality and isn't important for an amateur, though
another one is jpeg on Canon when shooting portrait is way better, especially on the LCD screen. I shoot gals only, and I am confident to show them the results right on the camera. As long as the white balance is right, I shoot jpeg only on a Canon.
Canon imo makes the best camera bodies and I love how their cams fit in my hand and menus are super intuitive. But lenses make the biggest difference in quality and types of photos you can take, and the fact is other brands like Sony and Lumix accept WAYYY more lenses with significantly better cost/quality ratio than any Canon lenses available. Canon has made a point to keep people locked in to their ecosystem, like Apple.
The advantage diminishes quickly when you realise how much more expensive the camera lenses become. It’s all well and good to spend to 2k on a camera vs 3k on a Sony, but when the entry points of a 24-70 2.8 is 3k for Canon vs just under 1.5k for Sony then you’d be better off paying a little bit extra for the body
The 24-70 for Canon is $2,300 and the Sony is still around $2K. It would be different if you compared it to Sigma, but then Sony holds third party lenses back (capped at 15fps and no compatibility with teleconverters). You could also get the lens used for under $2K
@@justinburley8659 yes but I’m talking about the entry points. Sony’s offering is still cheaper than the Canon and most people opt for the Sigma if they don’t need all the minute features
@gerardneedham totally true! Canon don't care about APS-C cameras or lenses, I doubt they will release a new one in the near future, but at least we will get Sigma and Tamron 🙌
Canon is selling cameras like the printer 🖨️. As they sell the printer at very low cost and increase the price heavily 😕 for the cartridges. The same is for cameras. They sell cameras at lower prices and offer great specs. But when you go for lens options the Sony ecosystem undoubtedly greatest of all as the canon previously blocked 3rd party lens makers and created a monopoly in the lens ecosystem by pricing the heavily.
False equivalent. You don't buy a camera system because of there body and price but rather the lens choices and option. I was Canon before I switched to Sony. Not just sony native lenses are cheaper and smaller than canon's, sony has more choice and 3rd party options.
that's the reason why no body talks about it, crap battery and no IBIS! Plus if we talk about price, yeah canon bodies are cheaper but they have no support for cheap 3rd party glass. So say you buy the A7CII for more than the R*, but you buy a good 3rd party lens that's cheaper, faster and better than the canon RF 35mm f1.8 for example, you get a better camera and lens for cheaper! that's why no body talks about it!
There is also the Nikon Z5 which even costs under 1000 euros. The camera obviously has its downsides (large video crop, rolling shutter and in highspeed it only shoots up to roughly 5 photos per second) but for people who don't do sports or wildlife photography it is an affordable and capable camera.
Does R8 take cheap auto focus third party lenses like Tamron, Viltrox, Rokinon, Sigma, etc? Maybe price is not certainly one of the strength of Canon eco system?
The real advantage is the availability of 4K 60p full frame for around $2000, where Sony has it for $3800 12 MP cameras! A7iv is great, but shoots 1.5x crop!
the r8 is a refreshed and updated a7iii level camera. Sony needs to stop only improving their a7 line and introduce a lower tier full frame line to compete. Beginners who want the sony system are stuck with dated cameras or the apsc line (which really is no real problem)
Gl spwnding less than 2k usd for a zoom lens. Whats the point of a cheep camera if you gonna spend so much more on lenses. And that normal canon battery is trash. So this tiny battery can probably shoot for an h max
Even though Canon has cheaper cameras their lens selection costs more than all my organs combined if you want your pictures to look better than a potato. Sony has cheaper and way better lenses for the price. In my opinion Sony is way better.
To decide to launch a ff camera in 2023 with no ibis is ludacris...tipical of canon to cheap out. Makes use of 2.8 smaller primes tricky, which defats the move to ff. And with smallest system of lenses, it's the worst ff camera system of all, at least for now.
😂 well that's why you buy a Nikon f4 35mm camera .. and you do away with the sensor .. and you bring back true photography .. well you see and what you snap the shutter on that's what you get
Yea except good rf lenses cost an arm and a leg unlike sigma lenses on Sony

My bigger concern with the R8 wasn't mentioned, the lack of a mechanical shutter. Granted rolling shutter is pretty minimal with that sensor, I'd still want a mechanical shutter to reliably capture action
So tell me, how many lens options does Canon have again?
Great camera
How much does it cost though???
What is the advantage???
I just bought my second R6mkII body for $1999 after Canon dropped the price. The R8 lacks IBIS which is one of the features that makes the R6mkII great for video and shooting with non-IS lenses.
I really wish the R8 had a joystick on the back of the body to move the focus point. I’ve been so spoiled by having one on the R10, it’s probably the only thing that’s kept me from upgrading
So what is the advantage? Sony have ac which have body stable and full size battery
My camera!
Have the R8 as a second body to my R6II great camera
A7 iii in the same price segment has 5axis in body stabilization
Slot for a bigger battery
And a huge variety of lenses from third party manufacturers.
I don't understand what benefit it has over the SONY cameras except for the Fully Articulated Screen?
I still shoot with my 5D mark III. It still works. Saved so much money not buying the next shiny thing.
You forgot arguably the biggest difference. The R8 has a single memory card slot while the R6 has two, which is why the R6 is common among professionals while the R8 isn't.
Doesn't affect image quality and isn't important for an amateur, though
🤯 💯⚡️
another one is jpeg on Canon when shooting portrait is way better, especially on the LCD screen. I shoot gals only, and I am confident to show them the results right on the camera.
As long as the white balance is right, I shoot jpeg only on a Canon.
What's the advantage then??
The good thing now we will get Sigma and Tamron lenses for RF mount
@@joaomansano145 for APSC only lol, that's because canon are too lazy to make APSC lenses for the RF mount
Thats not true. I shoot with sony because canon is too expensiv. Its not the body its the lenses
Not just sony native lenses are cheaper and smaller than canon's, sony has more choice and 3rd party options.
canon users really need new magic lantern
that's the reason why no body talks about it, crap battery and no IBIS!
We just ignoring Panasonic? S5ii for less than 2k with a lens, class leading IBIS, superior video specs etc
Superior video? Not quite... the S5ii is cropped in high framerates, whereas the R6ii is not. Every camera has it's advantages.
@@AnthonyGugliotta Well sure but the R6ii is nearly $1,000 more expensive
@@Projekt5.3 on BH the price difference is $100
@@AnthonyGugliotta I was comparing non-sale prices but yeah those sale prices are extremely competitive wow
Anthony: It has the same internals
Also Anthony: It takes the smaller batteries and has no IBIS
I have this camera as my back up cam. My go to is the XT4 Fujifilm boyssssssssssssss😅
There is also the Nikon Z5 which even costs under 1000 euros. The camera obviously has its downsides (large video crop, rolling shutter and in highspeed it only shoots up to roughly 5 photos per second) but for people who don't do sports or wildlife photography it is an affordable and capable camera.
The Z5 also has IBIS which is a big plus for photography.
R8!!! My main daily
Does R8 take cheap auto focus third party lenses like Tamron, Viltrox, Rokinon, Sigma, etc? Maybe price is not certainly one of the strength of Canon eco system?
You can buy adapters. You may lose functionality. I have a bunch of Zeiss lenses I use with my R8. Love them.
The Sony a6700 has the same sensor as the Fx 30. Zve-1 ,same sensor is the Fx 3 and they all use this same big battery from Sony. 😮
Except lens are 2x as much to get a good one. Whereas Sony has 3rd party that produce great lens (sigma, tamron) for 1/2 the price
Sooo... No advantage?
If I only knew why does bro close one eye when looking at the camera sometimes?
I would like to buy the R8 but the lenses are so expensive
The real advantage is the availability of 4K 60p full frame for around $2000, where Sony has it for $3800 12 MP cameras!
A7iv is great, but shoots 1.5x crop!
I thought you were talking about the infamous Canon cripple hammer 🔨… and I was right . Just kidding great content
and no full mechanical shutter
also the one sd card slot is a deal breaker for me
You forgot to mention that it has only one sd card slot, so for hobby its great. But to do some paid projects its a risk.
the r8 is a refreshed and updated a7iii level camera. Sony needs to stop only improving their a7 line and introduce a lower tier full frame line to compete. Beginners who want the sony system are stuck with dated cameras or the apsc line (which really is no real problem)
Major thing for me is no mechanical shutter
As someone who went to Sony from Canon, the biggest perk to canon is the price😂 I'm broke af 😂
Not really?
You didn't say Raw
I'm using an Eos Rp for 500€ and super happy with that😅
Broski forgor the a7cii
Gl spwnding less than 2k usd for a zoom lens. Whats the point of a cheep camera if you gonna spend so much more on lenses. And that normal canon battery is trash. So this tiny battery can probably shoot for an h max
The insufferable cringey nose scrunching and eyebrow furrowing in every video won’t let me take this obvious canon fanboy seriously.
He's just a canon fanboi
Crappy endorsement. R8 does not even have IBIS and a battery that dies without warning.
Even though Canon has cheaper cameras their lens selection costs more than all my organs combined if you want your pictures to look better than a potato. Sony has cheaper and way better lenses for the price. In my opinion Sony is way better.
Oh yeah .. the legendary Canon Criple Hammer...
Honestly, except for their great AF, it is not difficult to have an advantage over Sony.
Canon RP, Canon R8 sony should learn
Bro what’s the advantage?!?
Sonys just a premium item 💰😏
Still waiting for the advantage
To decide to launch a ff camera in 2023 with no ibis is ludacris...tipical of canon to cheap out. Makes use of 2.8 smaller primes tricky, which defats the move to ff. And with smallest system of lenses, it's the worst ff camera system of all, at least for now.
I'll say it... Canons naming convention sucks. Change that before I change brands...
No ibis is a big deal to a lot of people…
no ibis is a deal breaker for me
If you have the cheapest camera that you don't use, give it to me, I can take video on my phone, but the video quality is low, please🥺
No in body IS nossirski
😂 well that's why you buy a Nikon f4 35mm camera .. and you do away with the sensor .. and you bring back true photography .. well you see and what you snap the shutter on that's what you get
