after reading the book looking for alaska i’ve been listening to this song on repeat and in my opinion it perfectly captures miles in the “after” part of the book
I feel like she’s singing this directly to me, and it’s so sad.
Her phrasing, pure vocal and confessional lyrics remind me of Joni Mitchell. A compliment to brilliant songwriting in the 21st C.

I just left my ex bc he wasn't good for me and I can relate to this song so much. I worry about him and how he's handling our breakup despite everything we went through. I want to make sure if he's okay and check up on him, but like how Ms. Jacklin said "I'm the one who left"
My heart
My ex broke up with me after I finished college and my life spiraled out of control. Like she not only broke up with me she had a daughter with my own brother. So it hurt. Then I started drinking a lot and driving around the United States and dabbling in opiates. Then my house caught on fire and I lost everything. This was within 8 months time btw. I got addicted to heroin and got my current gf pregnant while we were strung out. We eventually became homeless and were just doing heroin to avoid reality. She got locked up which was the best thing that happened to us. Cause now we got a healthy 7 month old baby and we’ve been off of dope for about a year. Moral of the story is that a broken heart can lead you to some dark places. It usually gets better but it might not be as good as it was before. That whole thing changed my brain chemistry and I’m not who I once was. I cant tell if I’m better or worse.
I love my sons mother. But me and my ex were a perfect fit, we were just too immature. Were cool now though but it fucked me up for a long time. Too long
