This is just a summary of J&S' day. I tried to compress as much as I could, but there were just too many important activities happening.
I intentionally left out some captions and time-stamp markers so you can enjoy writing your own notes as you learn more about them like I did eons back.
Let's keep them in our prayers. The weather has been very relentless. I noticed Jackie sneezing (not often, but it got my attention) and Shadow looked a bit under the weather... just glad he seem to have shaken it off today. 🙏🏼

@@Cobbmtngirl I mis-labeled between J&S because I missed some COGs (I fast-forward too fast), also misplacing frames - I was editing on-the-go via phone - screen too small to notice the mistake. Too late to correct once saved and uploaded. 😬🙏🏼
Poor Shadow, I bet he is extremely hungry! I also noticed when Jackie came back to the nest she had blood on her talons. I'm just glad Jackie found something to eat because it's not very easy for birds of prey to find food during storms. 😐

They are such devoted parents, being so careful to keep their eggs warm and protected. Here's hoping they'll have one little eaglet to love and care for.
When they call out into the wild and listen, it must be a peak experience at the sound of a response.
It's exhilarating. We heard Jackie and Shadow's vocalizations quite a number of times - from a mile away and up close 😊

Not zooming on the eggs anymore is so petty. Just now there was a great view and all of them were rolled but no zoom. It’s almost as if those running the channel are acting like parents, but punishing everyone because a few asked some "negative" questions. It’s really ironic that they can't be more like the eagles and persevere in the face of adversity instead of giving up at the first signs of negativity.
I think everyone knows, there's no longer a need to zoom.
Another channel that was doing updates last year has been banned from reporting anything on the birds. First he couldn't show clips then he couldn't mention them. He had an interesting channel.
@@rkm5369Then out of respect for the thousands watching just report it. Look, even though this nest has a not-so-great history, I watched along with everyone else and was rooting hard for at least one baby - for them, not for me. Chat was a learning experience and everyone seemed respectful of one another. It took one day for it all to fall apart and instead of taking control of chat with a few "guardrails" in place they just shut it all down. It was unprofessional and inconsiderate to those that became invested, both emotionally and financially. Then they do a recap every 12 hours - really?

The constant bad weather at Bear Lake during the incubation period probably is the cause of a no show pip. It is not final by any means, so keep your fingers crossed and pray a little.

Does J&S ever lay together next to one another? Maybe to keep warm?
I have not seen them do it. I did see Beau & Gabby (NEFL Nest), the Decorah Nest, SWFL Nest double-brood.
So it looks unlikely for the first two eggs, but there’s still hope for the last one. At least that one was sat on as soon as it was laid. Fingers crossed!
My only annoyance so far, is that any negativity has been discouraged so heavily, (“trust the eagles, the eggs being uncovered for a few minutes is fine, stop worrying, stop helicopter parenting”) that once we have to admit the possibility the eggs aren’t viable, everyone’s freaking out unable to even discuss it. Got everyone’s hopes up too high, IMHO.
I’ve been watching Jackie & Shadow for two years now, and last year was heartbreaking I just hope we get a different outcome this year. But oh well, nature be nature-ing.

How do you know if egg is a dudd and won’t hatch?😢
At the 45th Day, experts call it a "stretch." - last day to expect a hatch.
What is the third dates on the chart? Is that when they definitely should be out/hatched?
It's the 45-Day "stretch" - still hoping for the last miracle call before they (experts) will declare non-viable.
Is it true that only 6 eggs out of 15 hatched from 2018-2023? If those Satistics apply here, only 1 egg will hatch, however having 3 increases the odds that 2 will. Hatch...
Probability. I did see a couple of 3 eaglets from (1 nest) in different locations successfully fledged. No absolutes. Too many factors affecting successful hatching and fledgling of all 3.

You are very observant 😊. This is the same reason I compile the footages and mark the time so I can see the pattern of behaviors. These were originally intended for my personal collection so I do not forget, but then I realized folks who equally love J&S deserve to see their daily summary like me who do not have the time to sit and watch the LiveCams 24/7. 😊

It's a great question 😊. J&S usually lay 2 eggs on average. 2024 is a record breaker 😊

@@Dabears2024 Yup, I've posed these questions even on the fan page on IG and my comments got removed repeatedly. I'm learning it's kind of an odd community. We can only participate if it's absolutely positive feedback. Yet we're all watching the REAL world on our screens yet have to pretend to be 100% optimistic/happy/non-questioning. Odd to say the least.
I feel like if it was a toxic outside influence, we would see symptoms in Jackie and Shadow, who appear very healthy. Also, in the past, pesticides were causing eagle eggs to be too thin and break, which doesn’t appear to be the case either.
The most likely possibility is simply the weather. Having 3 feet of snow pile up on you can’t be a great thing for the eggs.
@@damdamfino I wholeheartedly agree with the weather issue. Yet each time that's presented, the mods say 'oh eagles thrive in Alaska' welllll have Jackie and Shadow been raised in Alaska?? Yes, I understand animals have inherent 'builds' for certain environments BUT not sure how someone can debate it would be easier on eggs to grow in a neutral/sunny environment versus buried in feet of snow. Especially if the parents grew up in such an environment and are not acclimated to in harsh Alaska winters.
