I saw her perform at Royce Hall in Los Angeles, in the 1980s. She was every bit as wonderful as she is here. We were able to talk to her after the show and she couldn't have been more gracious. Her husband is equally talented with the Sax. I still think how lucky I am to have lived during this time of incredible number of gifted singers and musicians.
My dad loved her said she was one the best Jazz voices out there. Took me several years of listening to all kinds of jazz and musical genres to develop a level of understanding and yes a sophistication to really appreciate this level of skill and talent. Now I think I hear what my dad already knew.
Yes, jazz singer though in my opinion best singer, range, tone, clarity, harmony, style of effortlessness especially in low or high ranges. Blew me away from 1st time I saw her & still does. John, hubby helped her in musical arrangements. Do miss them on live performances.
Her ability to learn arrangements like this is mind-boggling. The note for note harmonies were one of their trademarks and incomparable. . Loved them since the 70s or 80s when I saw them on PBS. Thanks for all of the incredible music Cleo! We love you!
Thank you once again for showcasing the immeasurable talent of Sir John and Dame Cleo. I recently found tracks from their "Shakespeare and all that jazz" album, which I lost many years ago. It is a masterpiece of great composition and arranging, superb playing, and of course sublime singing.
I remember seeing them at Wavendon back in 1972 after hitchhiking from Bury St. Edmunds when I was 17. It was a great weekend with the likes of George Chisholm, Lennie Bush, John Dankworth, Cleo and David Bailey if my memory serves me right.
Met her & late husband, bonded, resonated immediately. Her voice' w/ me, in my heart & ears. I rate other singers on her level that I've yet to find????
Now you're an adult, you have the choice to watch whatever you like, so what compelled you to view this? Are you a masochist? Conversely, I watched this for precisely the opposite reason. Cleo is one of the UK's finest jazz singers.
Phillip Lloyd shoobedy woobedy shut the fuck up, I’m classically trained and I’m telling you now as much as she is hitting all the right notes, her vocal range is nothing special. yes she knows what she’s doing but as far as talent goes, not so much.

Yes! most of them also played in Norwich on the same tour. Never to be forgotten.
Cleo Laine was a regular performer on Pebble Mill. An afternoon ITV show in the late 1970's and early 19080's. Fabulous
Pebble Mill was the BBC Network Production Centre in the Midlands - so that would be 'Pebble Mill At One' (on BBC1).
One of the best jazz singers ever
Simply marvelous singer. Just listen to that four octave range.
Awesome ! only 1 other word for this - WOW ! and BTW Happy 95th birthday , you beautiful lady of song perfection !
Sadly missed. A wonderful jazz voice as smooth as chocolate.
Such a talented duo.
Incomparable. I don't know of any singer that has developed this singing style/jazz vocalization.
She just Rocks out!
I literally just found out that John Dankforth was my 3rd Uncle and Cleo Laine my 3rd aunt. 🤩🤩
That’s cool!
Swingin' !!! Doesn't get any better than this.
Simply wonderful!!

Fantastic listening
Reeves and Mortimer brought me here!😁😁😁
not what I was expecting when I tapped in " scat videos" into google.
No shit
My hair was like this at 10 years old....
What is she talking about
She's no Bonnie Langford is she ...
I'd rather listen to Yoko Ono than sit through that again...
When I was a kid she used to annoy me, still does.
Me too
She is annoying
Very annoying

Oh well. She is doing just fine without you.
What the hells happed here ???????😮
This is fucking awful😂
Jazz is just pure cringe
Then why did you watch the video?
J Coles got shown it
Some people are so ignorant of creativity and talent. What rubbish there is today with no talent!

@@silverspeak4813 typical abuse as you can’t have an intelligent argument. I’m a classically trained musician and a professor of music
Urgh....cannot abide her voice. Jazz is the worst music ever
Look at what 2020 kids say
You obviously don’t have any creativity or musical appreciation whatsoever.
Can't abide whingers either - Musically uneducated people are worst people ever.
Can't stand the noise emanating from her mouth. Irritating!!
Why listen then you idiot
You are a moron with no musical taste!
Fantastic listening
