What a great asset this couple was to the world of music. This is such a subtle arrangement and Cleo sings with true mastery of rhythm, phrasing and vocal nuance.
I too saw this on BBC4 tonight. Wonderful sinuous vocal. So glad it's on You Tube. Catch Cleo's vocal of 'Fear no more the heat o' the sun' from Cymbeline. Someone read it at a funeral I went to recently. So moving.
Love this. Sounds like 'Vocalese' (singing a vocal line/lyrics to a previous musical riff or solo). Jazz singers do it often. Jon Hendrix is the master of this, (maybe the originator). The song "Moody's Mood for Love" is a perfect example - it's a vocal of the horn solo of "I'm in the Mood for Love"

Cleo Laine, still alive and kicking at age 96.
Had not heard this before either. Have been to 3 of her concerts. Have met her several times. Used to get Christmas cards from her and John.
Wow. That’s impressive. Seriously.
This is simply as good as it gets pure perfection!
At last some real jazz... Wow i love it!

Superbe. Je ne connaissais pas cette chanteuse jazz smooothy. Une belle découverte, merci.
This song became the title track of a great album. Thanks!

The journey through the song is unique.. almost avant garde... but beautifully makes amazing sense! (erm... well I know what I mean lol )

What a voice...a true lady... "take note Britney and crowd" (By the way she's 81 years old and still performing...)
1:22 to 2:32 MY GOD!!!!! That was a horn solo!!
Cool scene!
Beautiful !!
Does someone know where I can find the lyrics ?
awesome!
performing VERY well BTW!
I like the fact that - like my hero Lou - there is still something of the Marmite about Dame Cleo. I love Marmite.
itgetseasierlessitry for those who don't know Brit slang, what's Marmite (or a Marmite) please????
thats why sh's called a Dame
For me, this kind of performance is humiliating for many singers.
