The developers are a bunch of drooling idiots who're turning the game full casual where there's no sense of progression and everything is free. Not to mention the devs are trying their best to kill pvp. I don't recommend anyone starting this game.

Random story mr westham. About 3 years ago I started playing osrs again. I spent about a week earning enough money to get a dharok sets and some pk stuff. I died with my first 2 sets and had 1 remaining. I finally killed someone in a pvp world at the ge for around double my bank. I was shaking and so excited. As I was looting you teleblocked me and killed me for my final set and the loot I pked.
I logged off that day and haven't played osrs since. I'm not remotely mad as it is part of the game, just thought it was a story I should tell you about what happens to some of the noobs you kill

@dilliondantin with Runescape, your grind is self imposed; you can start something, stop when you want to, and pick up where you left off from without losing progress or power level. While there is some power creep over time, it doesn't devalue your rune armor from 15 years ago, rune armor is still as good as it was before. With BDO, the game punishes you for being logged out. There are world bosses that spawn every couple of hours, each drops materials that you need to progress, and they're all different. If you didn't catch x boss when it spawned, you don't get your materials and you don't get a roll at the big drop. You have to wait until next time it spawns (sometimes 3am or 5am etc). On top of that, you're time gated on other grinds by daily quests you have to repeat for weeks or months to get the reward and/or upgrade you were hoping for. On top of *that*, the upgrade system is prohibitively expensive, and punishes you for failing, to the point where it's economically smarter to buy the next upgrade. It's like, you have a bowfa and roll for it to become a tbow, but instead it becomes an acb because you missed the success roll. Might as well just buy the tbow outright. But to get the tbow someone has to roll it from the bowfa, so it's incredibly expensive as well. The economy in that game is fucked.
