I've been using 3M Adhesive Transfer Tape 465. I bought a 2" wide version from Micro Tools and it has lasted for over 20 years. A little goes a long way. It is pricy $50 a roll but as I said it lats a long time. I use a heat gun along with a product called "Bestine" to soften the old leatherette and remove it. The same heat gun and an old darkroom roller flattens out the old covering. Then I apply the leatherette to the sticky side of the tape, use a surgical scalpel to cut the tape to size. Peel off the paper covering and stick it on. Wetting with a little alcohol (Some folks use saliva) keeps the tape loose so you can shift it about if needed.
I love your channel, I found it recently and I find it very instructive. The videos made with high quality, detailed, besides being very specific tasks in high precision devices where experience is essential. Just to give you my congratulations for this and thank you for sharing your knowledge. From Spain, excuse my english google.
Thanks for the video. I had a weird problem with my 503cw. Under the mirror, there is a tiny sheet of metal that came out and jammed the camera. I found the problem and pushed it inside but it moves freely. I searched on the web but didn't find any information. Did you know what it can be?
I know this is a little older video, but so am I and the cameras ... I have trouble turning the matte screen adjustment screws on my 501cm. Would you know any tricks to turn them and also maybe also where to get a proper tool for that (key V-4704)? Thanks a lot :)
Thank you for this video, it is super helpful. I managed to repair a salt water damaged 501CM with it. (Back flaps bent out of shape because the return spring for them corroded and got stuck against the rest of the mechanism) A lot of people on forums say that when you pull the internal mechanism off the outer shell it destroys the alignment and calibration between the lens mount and the film plane. Is this true?
Rather than the hazard of using a tool to secure the two clips that hold the delicate screen in place, it's best to allow the waist level finder to provide the locking. Slide it on and it safely & automatically draws the two tabs in...
yes thanks, that is actually what is recommended to do it, same with mamiya 6*7 and other cameras with this sort of finder, the less you touch the better!!! even when cleaning, as the finder has a Plexiglas base with a plastic coating, which is very soft and very easily scratched or worse melted (smeared) with solvents!!!
hi i have a special question, on my 500cm the top rear (auxilary) shutter does not open completely when the shutter is released, so it is in the way. i tried quite a lot of things. had quite a hard time with that little thing. Spiral feathers jumping out from the mirror breake and so on. now i am atleast back to where i only have that one problem with the auxilary shutter left… do you maybe have an idea on how to adjust it? thanks a lot, greetings from Munich.
My god please make a video of the repair of the auxiliary curtain of this Hasselblad since it's a very common issue with this great hassy! Great videos!
jdiddy27 Thank you for your comment and suggestion. At some point in time the FOC video you suggest could be produced that would cover one of the more common and simple causes of the malfunction you describe. Your patience is appreciated.
Dear, great videos. I get a older bronica S and I suppose the camera never had a service. I'm testing the first film, mechanics seems to work. But, whats your opinion: should I do a service yet or still wait it becomes sluggish? Have You tipps what to lubrificate and so on...? Sorry, Y're far away to send the bronica to You... :)
Could you do a video on replacing the the mirror damper foam on a hasselblad cm? I know it would be a complicated video but im sure very informative and interesting.
Thank you for the suggestion. Yes, for such a simple issue replacement is tricky and would surely warrant a feature in a FOC video. Hard to say when such a video might be produced.
@@FixOldCameras I have that SAME PROBLEM with a 'Donated 500C/M and 500 EL/M -- both mirror damper foams are rotten and 'horrible BITS' keep falling onto the mirror -- i have done 35mm SLR's with foam light seal strips -- is it possible for an 'Amateur Camera repairer' to do the Hasselblad ?
nice video, BUT how does this work on the E L / ELM models, which have the battery/winder module below the body and hence have NO winding socket on the side?- wish you could do a video on this please :))
Another great suggestion for a video. The list is long. However, the EL/M offers some disassembly complications. The motor drive unit can be pulled from the casing thru the right hand side panel. The mirror box can than be removed after removing the cosmetic pieces such as the mode selector and ISO selector. Probably won't be doing a feature on the EL/M any time soon, but it is not off the list of possibilities for a future consideration. Thank you for your comment and interest in Fix Old Cameras. Hope to have another Hasselblad video of some sort a little sooner though.
Do you have any brand or model number for double-sided tape for reattaching leatherette and other coverings if needed? Is there a way to safely clean the viewfinder's ground glass other than air?
A clean soft art brush from an office supply or art store. An angle shader brush # 6 works very well in most camera repair lens and viewfinder cleaning applications. For leatherette that is still pliable plain office supply double sided tape works. Double sided carpet tape available at home improvement stores offers a little stronger bond. If the leatherette is stiff and more resistant to staying put then you might have to resort to Pliobond glue with rubber bands and card board shims to hold in position until the glue sets.
I've seen it suggested that the "ground glass" can be rinsed with distilled water and forced air dried but I haven't ever tried it. Could you folks comment?
Thank you for your interest in FOC. Nothing too fancy. Keep it simple. Sony NEX-6 w/80mm vintage Zuiko macro, Canon 60D w/17-55mm 2.8 EFS and various macro set ups... also often a Sony DSC-TX1 (due to its small unobtrusive size). The lighting is natural light from a large north window and reflectors. Occasionally small studio light (6400K) for illuminating shadows. A vintage Turner mic and ICICLE usb adapter for the voice over. Edited in i-movie to HD 720 aspect ratio 16:9.
Hello. I need help. It seems that the mechanism of my Hasselblad 500c caught. This happened after I manually turned the contact lens on the camera. The mirror is locked. The curtain is also locked in the open position and the shutter button is also stuck. There is an easy solution to release engrenegens and return to normal. Thank you very much in advance.
+Rodrigo Brasil The issue is not exactly clear from the description. However, with the mechanism removed from the outer shell you might be able to carefully inspect the wind release sequence and discover the problem. A little gentle encouragement might get the sequence to complete. Check the wind ratchet in particular. By releasing it you might be able to wind through again. Be very careful with your probing as you do not want to make matters worse for your repair shop if you ultimately have to take it in for service.
Make sure the lever is pulled all the way down as you slide the box in so that it can engage the linkage properly. Look at how the lever rest and is linked to the mechanism so that you can position it correctly.
Replacing the finder does in fact reset the screen clips needing not to stick your probing screen scratcher near the screen to move the clips. Thanks for the video.

Very good. Please continue to show re-assembly as this is often more difficult than disassembly
Thank you for your suggestion and for your interest in FOC.
Just fixed mine - thanks for the video. Got it from my dad who died recently... now it works again!
You are welcome and it is good to hear of your successful repair.

Nice... Thanks. Liked... Subscribed.
Interesting.. No one ever does the power winder version... I wonder why.

Works for dust and non oily smudges.
Thanks for the awesome video. What equipment do you guys use to video?

hi there , i did this but now lock up wont working , what shall i do?

lever is pulled down but it still need a click on a shutter and lock up bottoms after mechanism is in box .
can you make any short video about this?
Thank you for the suggestion for a video detailing this aspect of reassembly. It could be featured in the future.
Thank you )
Replacing the finder does in fact reset the screen clips needing not to stick your probing screen scratcher near the screen to move the clips. Thanks for the video.
Your comments bring a smile.
Use your finger to unlock the mirror and tilt the camera a bit to get the mirror out, then you do not need a screwdriver !
Good suggestion, with minimal dexterity needed. Thanks for the comment.

Digital is in fact a passing fad.

Ah yes, ASA, as all my meter say. Just say no to iso.
...and one more. Thank you for taking the time to comment and watch a Fix Old Camera video.
