@RIGUSGACA The song is about Regine's (the singer's) mother's death. The story goes that Regine refused to learn to drive as a teenager, and then when her mother was gravely ill in the hospital, the only way for Regine to get there was for her to drive the family car there, but of course she never got her license. And tragically her mother passed away in the hospital before Regine could see her.
Has to be one of the best songs I've ever heard. It's amazing. And the feeling and ambiance you get from just watching it on your computer screen can only be a testament of how incredible it must've been to actually be there live.
So beautiful. My favorite part of this video is when the music starts quieting down and dwindling off for a bit and the audience is just completely silent and awestruck. Really amazing. Love this band.
I love the raw emotion in her voice in the crescendo of the last chorus. It seems so genuine and vulenrable. One of the few songs that can make my eyes well up and feel what she's feeling.
what i love about this song, is that as kids were on always in the backseat no worries nothing to care about in the world and that moment hits when your old and your driving your parents around, when your in charge and taking care of the people that took care of you! simply beautiful :)))
I tried covering Haiti and In The Backseat once but I just couldn't do it, not because of the music (I worked out all of the parts), but just that they both feel so personal that it was like they weren't mine to cover. And the split second of silence before the audience start clapping and they start back up again is just electric, beautiful.
I actually get tears in my eyes every time I hear this song, its so underestimated! I love it and its personally one of my favourite songs written by Arcade Fire! Such a beautiful, powerful song! And I know Regine may not have one of the best voices, but it must take alot of courage to get up and sing a song you writ about your mother dying! She's so talented and I'm sure her mum would be so proud of her! I couldn't imagine losing my mum! So brave :)
I fucking love artists/bands that sing with so much emotion. The songs I'm most attached to are the ones sung with so much emotion. It's awesome when they let their emotions out while singing
Usually I'd get annoyed by singers who aren't powerful singers live... But with her... The shaky, kind of untrained vocals add to her. Regine has such a naive innocence about her.
I never understood why TAF was considered so good, then I forced myself last week to listen to the 1st album in a sitting and like... it's ridiculous how much of an impact these guys have had on me. And this song. It's been such a long time since I've seen so many people put so much emotion into one song. Speechless.
Only once in a very great while do you get the priveledge of hearing a piece of music that casts a great hook into your chest, wrestles with you throughout the arrangement of notes and raw emotion, until the end of the song where you look down and find your heart lies pounding on the floor. Truly a piece of art.
No matter the time that has gone by, this is always a favourite. Her voice so delicate and haunting, moves you, its mesmerizing. Shame there is no "love" instead of "like"
i decided to listen to this song while driving around a beautiful part of my town... very hilly, lots of mountains... i was driving up this one mountain and as i reached the top of it and the world opened up and there was a magnificent view of trees upon trees and hills upon hills, the song peaked and regine wailed (at about 4:06). i have never experienced anything that made me feel quite like that. it was a defining moment in my life. i'd never felt so joyous this is REAL music.
everytime I listen to this song I think my god, there is a god to make such beautiful music. And also that I shouldn't bother trying to make music lol :P its too good!
I love her energy, all the emotion mixed with her whimsical voice mesh to make the vocals perfect, then all the instrumentation, the cello, the violins, the guitar and drums make this entire song beyond a shadow of a doubt perfect.
That was an amazing performance by the most amazing young people I have ever seen. It's great for an old duffer like me to see this Thanks for the video
This is just so gloriously over the top - this is beyond singing, going into ACTING!. A reminder of what's lost when you go from theaters to playing before tens of thousands of people.
Legally? Yes. I'm banned from within 500 yards of all the hair salons in my town. But it's so not fair....what harm am I doing crawling into a dumpster full of ladies hair-cuttings???
what is regine doing on the floor at the end, either im missing it or i just dont see it. : ) this is the best live performance that i have ever seen someone do.
eu também, cara! vi-os em Lisboa no Super Bock Super rock em 3.Jul.07 e tenho a certeza de que foi o melhor concerto de toda a minha vida, e já lá vão muitos anos a ver bons concertos! Grande banda!
this is by far, Arcade Fire's most under appreciated song. possibly my favorite from them

Does anyone else get chills every single time the "OOOOOeeeeeOOOOO" kicks in?
Not only that, it makes me fucking cry
Every year I come back here to cry a little....
I'm not crying you're crying
She breaks my heart, I love her atypical voice, and the way that she feels the music. Amazing band, one of my favorites.
This is the most profoundly human song I think I've ever heard.
Calvin Amering so what planet are you from?
The planet Earth I'm sure.
Has to be one of the best songs I've ever heard. It's amazing. And the feeling and ambiance you get from just watching it on your computer screen can only be a testament of how incredible it must've been to actually be there live.
Regine´s voice has a lot of pain and feeling.... it´s just beautiful, I love it

This is the only song I've ever heard that moves me like a day in the life
Regine is so emotional... and beautiful :3 I deeply love this song
this is the only thing that makes me cry
how'd they do that!!! how they just gonna make music like that
I just had two full tears run down my face in the second chorus.
what about drowning puppies?
The death of one's Mother eg. Alice must be horrifying. I haven't experienced it yet but she sure does pour her heart out in this song.
I tried covering Haiti and In The Backseat once but I just couldn't do it, not because of the music (I worked out all of the parts), but just that they both feel so personal that it was like they weren't mine to cover.

I respect that.
Whenever I listen to this I think of a alittle child in the backseat when it's raining then without warning the car crashes
shin ju I think it's safe to say you have some issues man :/

This song is just beautiful, amazing performance!!!
i had this song on repeat for 3 hours on my ipod then i decided to see if there was any good live videos and here i am:)
ipod?!?! What is this 2011?! *Checks comment's date* oh my
same thing happened to me
you can hear the deep heavy emotions...it's heartbreaking.
Out of all the (not exaggerating) 100+ live Arcade Fire videos I've seen, I think I can say that this is the crown jewel. Hypnotizing performance.
Yes!
I fucking love artists/bands that sing with so much emotion. The songs I'm most attached to are the ones sung with so much emotion. It's awesome when they let their emotions out while singing
The best album
This is a deeply emotional song, it send chills through me. Regine is amazing.
goosepumps and tears, especially for this version!
Tried singing it. Failed.
I’m a dude and can sing all but the “whoooo WOOOO oooooo” lmao
Usually I'd get annoyed by singers who aren't powerful singers live... But with her... The shaky, kind of untrained vocals add to her. Regine has such a naive innocence about her.
The end is so... devastating to my heart.
This song is still beautiful in 2020!
Same in 2023!
Same in 2023
@@rico76
@@brendenanderson agreed!
Same in 2024
I love how imperfect her singing is , but how much the emotion gets under my skin..
Lo escuchaba de adolescente y aun ahora en mi adultez me sigue pareciendo una obra de arte, emocionante y hermosa 🖤
One of the most emotionally potent songs I’ve ever heard, absolutely incredible
Arguably one of the best live performances ever. From one of the best albums by one of the best groups, ever.
this its not indie, this its not rock, this its not orchestra, its just beautifull music, everything else dissapears...
not something I say lightly, this is one of the most "human" songs I've ever heard
There are few modern rock songs that have as much emotion as this does, just amazing.
I cry everytime I hear this song.
This is amazing...I love it with all of my heart and will always.
I never understood why TAF was considered so good, then I forced myself last week to listen to the 1st album in a sitting and like... it's ridiculous how much of an impact these guys have had on me. An absolute masterpiece. THANKS arcade fire xxx

“my family tree
is losing all its leaves”
what a hauntingly beautiful way to describe the death of your own mother
I can't even begin to explain how beautiful this band is. My love for their music is slightly neurotic.
This is just so beautiful. Thank you Arcade Fire for making this music.
oh my fucking god, this is so good. So good.
So refreshing to hear her sing without autotuning. Makes it so much deeper. So compelling. Beautiful work
when this song ends Im just gonna want more...
So greats... so emotional and lived... this isn't music... this is art
the non-lyrical vocal part of this song is as good as that in Great Gig in the Sky.damn
Music that makes me feel everything all at once. Life, and tortures me forever 🖤💕💔🖤
the look on her face at 4:40, just completely lost in the song. i love it.
One of my all time favorite closing songs. slaps
oh, this song is heartbreaking. seeing it performed is so much more moving that just listening. wow.
This is the new face of music!!! It's the greatest thing to happen in music in hundreds of years!!!!
The crowd thougt the song was done...IT AIN'T DONE

this is REAL music.
Her vocals are beautiful. They do such a good job performing together. Props to Régine! And of course Arcade Fire (:
haileypotatogirl reminds me of Bjork
What a performance! Arcade Fire looked like they were performing a piece of a theatrical musical!
This song goes well with emotion. A definite piece of beauty. Glad people who have seen this appreciate it
words cannot describe the beauty of this song.
Heartbreaking..
Beautiful, Thank you for this.
their show at coachella '06 was one of the most rivetting and awe-inspiring performances i have ever seen. it was simply unbelievable.
everytime I listen to this song I think my god, there is a god to make such beautiful music. And also that I shouldn't bother trying to make music lol :P its too good!
I dont know how they can make such a sad song so beautiful and so uplifting.
I was three years old when my mother crashed the '62 Valiant into a canyon. We all survived, but I still remember the feeling.
Well played, this was spetacular.
It's great for an old duffer like me to see this
Thanks for the video
Mes amis, vous êtes de la voix libre, de nos plus grands compositeurs et poètes. Longue vie.
YAY definitely one of my favorite songs ever.
Hermosa interpretación esto si es música.
This is just so gloriously over the top - this is beyond singing, going into ACTING!. A reminder of what's lost when you go from theaters to playing before tens of thousands of people.
wow that was a brilliant Live performance of this song. Thanks Regine
i am crying... so emotional and beautiful.
I'm no weirdo, but her hair is a holy fleece I'd sacrifice my soul for.
Her voice & pretty grace are just a bonus.
Are you a weirdo?
Legally? Yes. I'm banned from within 500 yards of all the hair salons in my town. But it's so not fair....what harm am I doing crawling into a dumpster full of ladies hair-cuttings???
People like you gotta stick together!
c.shenanigans Hope you're doing good man :)
This song gives me chills.
awesome - inspiring - beautiful - soul turning - heart wrenching.
This song is beautiful!
Simply amazing!
I love it!
This is amazing, I practically forgot I wasn't actually there. And I miss Owen!
I absolutely adore her voice
it's a beautiful tribute to her mother and a beautiful song, i love it too
please keep working , best band i found in years, you make me enjoy of the music, i love you. And your direct is even better. Thank you
I'd argue that it is pure. No lessons, no big pipes. It's raw emotion. Completely unadulterated.
4:10... Damn. Just damn. So great.
Another dimension music.
"I've been learning to drive my whole life" Somedays I'm better at it than others.
These guys are awesome together. I love it when that happens.
what is regine doing on the floor at the end, either im missing it or i just dont see it. : )
this is the best live performance that i have ever seen someone do.
Absolutely fucking amazing. Gives me chills every time i watch this.
This is, far and away, the best live music video on youtube.
4:10 ... goosebumps every time
Every time when I'm sitting ,,in the backseat''..I remember this song =)...awesome
Everytime i hear this song i think about it from the perspective of regines mother, in the backseat of a funeral hearse. Beautiful song
I'm weeping.
Régine Chassagne, what a performer.
eu também, cara! vi-os em Lisboa no Super Bock Super rock em 3.Jul.07 e tenho a certeza de que foi o melhor concerto de toda a minha vida, e já lá vão muitos anos a ver bons concertos! Grande banda!
