One thing I brought to the hospital with baby number 2 was a small SOUND MACHINE (white noise)!! At my hospital the nurses, Dr.'s, administrators come in and out all through the day as well as all night! We hardly got any sleep with the first baby because of all the interruptions and not really cause the baby kept us up! Most of the time the staff will let you be if your sleeping and just come back later. The doors are super heavy and make lots of noise opening and closing, also if your neighbor has visitors and you can hear them etc. The sound machine REALLY helped us get the maximum amount of uninterrupted sleep!! There are apps that play different white noise as well, but of course your battery is affected.
Love this, would you be able to do a video or a series about taking care of baby for first time Mom`s? Like how you put her to bed in her basenette, and things like that? Does she sleep on her back, side, tummy? I know new borns there is a certain way you need to place them so do do not get hurt in their sleep. How you cope with her sleep schedule... things like that? I think it would be informational and fun to watch or learn about.
Helpful hint: Remember the ABC's of safe sleep! Alone- always ALONE, never cosleeping Back- Babies should sleep on their backs Crib- baby should sleep in a crib or bassinet, not on couches or beds. :) Hope that helps some!
+HerBeauty`sInsideOut I'll answer these kinds of questions in my one month post-partum video. We're certainly not experts by any means, but so far we've been successful having her sleep on her back in a Halo Swaddle Sack in a bassinet by our bedside.
Loved this video! It's nice to know what you actually needed in the hospital bag. You look wonderful...happy and pretty. Thank you for taking time to make this video. Heidi
+Pretty Neat Living you just made my day first because you answered me and second because I can't wait to see how you pack for your little one! Thanks Jen your the best!
Congrats on your new baby!!! Love the bags u used! And u look great! I'm currently 36+ weeks and had to go back to a video I filmed 4+yrs ago to remember what to bring! All the best!!!
I had a C-section 2 years ago and will be having another this Summer. You have some great items here that I know I would have forgotten! Congrats on your little girl!
Yes,yes, yes, crocs are the best for the hospital stay. I even used them to shower because I dont like being barefoot in strange showers. All I had to do was step out of the shower onto the little rug they provide and shake them dry then slip them back on theyre awesome! And yes the belly bandit is great too, I looved it and it truly worked.
Although this content is not for me it is ALWAYS good to see you. You look great and I am so happy that your delivery went well and that you seem to be doing well. Hugs to your girls.
I KNEW you'd be such a fabulous mommy! CC is just perfect, and I know you're both feeling so blessed by the gift from God! Congrats..... So happy for you and to see you looking so happy, relaxed, and fitting into the new (and best!) role of a lifetime!
Loved this video. Everything you brought to the hospital was spot on. One thing I am so glad I brought was a nice big fluffy towel for showers from home.
May I add a couple of things that I found super helpful? A good camera for capturing first moments in the OR (with back up battery, card etc) and an organized list of contacts for sending email birth announcements. We had our list organized in excel (work contacts, personal, mine vs his, etc.) and had a birth announcement template created ahead of time.
Thank you so much for doing a vlog on this! :) My sweet Emma Violet will be here via C Section on Valentine's Day and your video was so incredibly helpful!! Miss Charlotte is absolutely breathtaking! Congrats!!
Congratulations Jen. I had my son 33 yes ago and wish I had a great video like yours..you both will be great parents. it is refreshing to see young people caring about home keeping and your role as a wife and mother, too many young people don't take the time to learn. keep up the great videos. bless you both🏡
I love your videos, they're always so helpful. My baby is due in June, and I was wondering if once you guys get adjusted to parenthood, if you could do a video on newborn essentials :). I don't want to go crazy and buy too many clothes, so a video that goes over how many onesies, how many baby pants, little socks, etc you go through a week, how many bottles, favorite diapers, and mommy stuff. That would be soooo wonderful!
Those purple tubes of Lanolin the hospital gave you are amazing for chapped lips. I keep one of those small tubes in my purse at all times. It stays on even when you're eating. Next to Carmex, that stuff is the best.
Wow! Jen, I have to say that after following you since the start of your channel, I can really see how much you've grown and evolved. So happy for you!
+Pretty Neat Living Jen, I´ve been following you for such a long time and you´ve been a great inspiration to me with your organizing and all of that. I'm very happy for you and Don. CC is very blessed to have such a loving family. Kisses from Brazil.
this was soooo helpful Jen! I'm 39 weeks today and only half way thru packing :-/ Now I can finish and not be nervous about forgetting stuff. Congrats on ur baby girl! she is so precious! Can't wait to meet mine :)))
It's soooo good to see you Jen!!! I hope you feel as good as you look because you look fantastic!!!! Congratulations on the birth of your BEAUTIFUL daughter.
You seem to have covererd everything and planned really well, always better to overpack and not need certain things in that instance than underpack and really need/crave an item. As a lip balm addict I can totally understand how drying hospitals can be
Thank you for sharing. This way I get to live vicariously through you. I am so very happy for you and Don. I am extremely happy CC is healthy and happy. She is quite lucky to have such loving parents as yourself.
I enjoyed this video! I will most DEFINITELY pack my bag earlier next time. I made a list and set things aside a little at a time around 36 weeks and then for some inexplainable reason, decided to wait to the last minute to actually pack the bag. Well, I found myself trying to stuff things into a bag in between contractions on the night I went into labor. 7 cm into my labor, we finished packing and rushed to the hospital. I was nearly fully dilated upon arrival. NEVER AGAIN!
You know, I sub bc of your planner vids since I'm a planner junkie and shop owner, but I'm also 30 weeks pregnant and just discovered your baby videos. so glad I found this as I am having a planned c section due to previa, gestational diabetes and high amniotic fluid. Thanks for sharing!!!
I wish I had brought my Boppy to the hospital for my last c-section. It really does help when holding the baby and nursing or bottle feeding- it's not just handy for breastfeeding! It was one of my most used baby items. My 3 year old still sleeps on it now. He has had reflux since he was a newborn and rests more comfortably with it. I joke that he's going to take it with him to college one day. :)
Thank you for this! My best friend is going in for her 3rd C-section and it definitely helps knowing what others thought useful. Her first 2 were emergency, so she had no control over what was happening and wasn't able to pack for it. This time it's scheduled for next Monday, so your advice definitely helped! :)
wow! can't believe your hospital provided nappies (diapers) & wipes. That's great, I'm in Ireland but not sure if its the same throughout the country but I didn't get anything like that in our hospital. Congrats again by the way👶
Congratulations on the new baby. Excited to see more videos about her and your new role as a mother. It's a wild ride but it's the best. I know you've been wanting to experience this for a while, so wishing you everything and more that you were hoping for.
Amazing idea to pack the car seat manual!! We struggled with ours with my oldest son. I too had a C-Section so fussing with that & a fussy baby while trying to go home with your first born was a nightmare!
YOU LOOK GREAT and your joy show also i got told at Christmas that i will becoming a grandma this July my first grand child and i could not be more happy and thank you for taking the time to keep us up to date i just love watching you and cc is a beautiful baby i will be looking for your next video take care cheryl from Canada
Lanolin (wool wax) comes from sheep, it helps them shed water from their fleece protects their skin too and is used as a base or in its own right for many ointments. It is a marvellous product and hospitals use it all the time :), it is great as a lip balm too, not just for nipples!
Jen, those mesh panties are a godsend! I used them for a while after my section. Also, none of those little newborn hats are going to fit CC. They are made for babies born vaginally. Section babies have round heads as opposed to cone-shaped heads. I never could find a hat to fit my daughter. I have to say, you were way more thorough with your packing than I was. We wound up having to have my parents or sister pick things up for us every day we were in the hospital. Luckily we were only there for three days.
Thanks for sharing!! I wrote notes and will refer back to your video when I'm packing my hospital bag in just a few short months. Btw, Motherhood is suiting you well, you look absolutely gorgeous and glowey!!!! :)
Jen, I keep forgetting to ask of you got a baby monitor like Snuza that clips on the diaper or Owlet both keep track of baby's breathing and alert you if baby is not breathing, just in case. I used Snuza with both of my boys because I was just so paranoid and it was a life saver! I recommend it to everyone, just suck a peace of mind :-))
Nurses love when you bring us food! :) I happen to know this first hand. Also....this has been really interesting for me to watch, along with your birth story. I can kind of get a sense of how other hospitals do things. I'm a mother baby nurse.
So funny... CC's stats were identical to my daughter, who is now about to graduate from college! :) She was born at 35 weeks 6 lbs 6 oz and 5 lbs 15 oz at discharge! Best wishes to your new little family! I'm enjoying all of the videos!
Congratulations! Having a C-section can be tough I found emotionally, the one thing I also found I needed was a watch. It can be hard to keep checking the phone for the time and every nurse wants detailed time reports on everything... I didn't bring one... my mom gave me hers off her wrist. Enjoy every second!
After my C-section, the nurse I had suggested control top underpants. OMG they were a life saver, I felt like I could move without feeling like my guts were going to fall out. I wore them a good 6 weeks post-op (even to bed).
Thank you ! For my first I had everything ready around 30 weeks because I was at risk of preeclampsia & other things so I had already started to dilate. Now I'm having my second & im just waiting for it to be confirmed that I'm having a girl! I'm so glad you had s wonderful experience!
Jen, I feel like I say the same thing over and over in the comments. But I am over the moon happy for you & Don. And CC is such a little blessing. Enjoy every minute of this journey. XO
In case you use the soothie pads again, they are amazing cold. I used to put mine in the fridge and it was so soothing. Congratulations and enjoy this special time!
This is terrific Jen! Aww it was so sweet to hear little CC in the background! Would you consider doing a breastfeeding tips video? I'm expecting my third, and want to try to nurse this time and it'd be my first and trying to absorb as much info as possible 😊
+Holly W I think I'd like to share my breastfeeding story once I feel like I've got it down as it has been a struggle and I've learned a lot along the way already.
Congratulations on a beautiful baby girl! 🎀 I have 2 girls 28 & 18. Some things have changed & some have completely stayed the same. Advising moms to pack early is smart. Both of my girls tried to come early, at 34 & 31 weeks, but labor was stopped with medication. You have such a tiny sweet little girl, except for the hat it's smart to bring a couple of sizes. Both of my girls were just a bit over 7#, but as an R.N. I have seen so many times where a women has a really big baby and has nothing to take it home in. I think taking your own cup was brilliant! I wish I had done that, but if/ when my girls have children I can share it with them. Lastly, somewhere I read " having a daughter is like giving birth to your best friend" as my girls get older, I couldn't agree more. I've been extremely lucky, they have been fantastic. My youngest. Is still at home. We live walking distance from her college, so we joke her dorm is big & she can have her cat! Enjoy Charlotte, she will grow up fast!
Hi Jen! I have been following your pregnancy journey and am gearing up to try to conceive this summer. You mention in some of your "empties" and pregnancy videos about products you avoid because the chemicals could be considered dangerous during pregnancy. I know you try to use natural products a lot anyway, but I'd love to see a video on what cosmetics, skin care, household products, etc. that you switched over to be safer specifically during your pregnancy! Love your recommendations!
I'm with you about one of the most essential things to travel with; scissors. I too never travel without a pair and it's surprising when you use them too!
Congrats! Baby Charlotte is an absolute doll! She is just beautiful in many ways! Hows mommy hood? I had quick question.. Does baby Charlotte have a nursery? If so, can you tour it for us? I'm currently having our 2nd baby girl, and I'm due March 11, 2016. I have no idea as to we just moved into a house recently and I want her to have a nursery as my oldest daughter never had one. :( We co-slept.
Congrats. CC is so beautiful and I'm truly happy for you and Don. I know what it's like to struggle with fertility issues. Thank you for letting me share in your journey as I am unable to have my own.
When I was in the hospital having my kidlettes the only thing I needed was a toothbrush/paste, hairbrush, nightgown and an outfit to go home in for baby and me, the hospital provided absolutely everything you might need so bringing special blankets, pillows, candles, pictures, etc. seems so silly. I'm not really referring to Jen here, I know that she was in the hospital for a long time and she's a professional bringer of things and we love her for that, but some of these other hospital bag videos just seem so silly :)
Try the lanolin as a lip balm if you don't end up using it on your nipples, it's amazingly moisturising :-). I'm a mom of 5 and my last baby was an emergency c-section so we weren't prepared at all, in hindsight I think everyone should have an extra just in case of emergency bag waiting for their other half at home!
+Emma N I live in London second child due on the 27th my hospital now allows partners to stay 24/7. I was surprised to learn this as this was not the case for my first.
Check out the Owlet Baby monitor sock, checks her status, her breathing, other things, it charges. It helps keep some sanity. And have you considered the book The Diaper Free Baby about Elimination Communication.
This was fabulously helpful!! I'm packing my bag for my csection delivery in 2 weeks!!
Congratulations!!! 💗 It's so weird to hear a baby in your videos! I love it!!
+Jessica White I know! Isn't that cute.
One thing I brought to the hospital with baby number 2 was a small SOUND MACHINE (white noise)!! +MyLifeWithACherryOnTop Great tip! There is a lot of traffic in and out of the room at all hours.
motherhood looks amazing on you!!!!
Love this, would you be able to do a video or a series about taking care of baby for first time Mom`s? Like how you put her to bed in her basenette, and things like that? Alone- always ALONE, never cosleeping
Back- Babies should sleep on their backs
Crib- baby should sleep in a crib or bassinet, not on couches or beds. :) Hope that helps some!
+BrandonandKelly06 Actually it is best if they sleep at least in thr same room as Mom:)
A one month baby update and a one month post partum update would be great to see! :)
+HerBeauty`sInsideOut I'll answer these kinds of questions in my one month post-partum video. We're certainly not experts by any means, but so far we've been successful having her sleep on her back in a Halo Swaddle Sack in a bassinet by our bedside.
+Pretty Neat Living Thanks. You are doing great just thought it would be a neat idea, you are always so informative .
Loved this video! It's nice to know what you actually needed in the hospital bag. You look wonderful...happy and pretty. Thank you for taking time to make this video. Heidi

+Alicia Gruhl overton I plan on doing a what's in my diaper bag for a newborn when CC is 6-8 weeks old
+Pretty Neat Living you just made my day first because you answered me and second because I can't wait to see how you pack for your little one! Thanks Jen your the best!

Such a helpful video, thank you! The beginning footage was priceless.
Great tip about giving a gift to the hospital staff. That was very classy.

Congrats Jen! CC is a doll! I worked for Baby Gap for years and their newborn collection has always run huge. xo
Although this content is not for me it is ALWAYS good to see you. You look great and I am so happy that your delivery went well and that you seem to be doing well. Hugs to your girls.
You are looking great, Jennifer. Motherhood really agrees with you! xo Enjoy that little bundle of joy.

I'm just in heaven absolutely loving these baby videos I've longed for for so long !!!
Excited you are making videos! Love your Disney bags! I have a few of them too. :)

The Bubba cup is amazing!! I'm currently 25 weeks pregnant and that is what I use to track my water intake now! Congratulations, again!!

LOL "I felt like I really kind of nailed it to be honest!" Best.line.ever!

@carissawiley I know right! I'm a surgical nurse, but I'm also allergic to chocolate 😨 I can never eat the gifts although the thought is appreciated 😀
+carissawiley God bless the nurses! You are a hero and make such a positive difference. Thank you for your service! I love nurses :)
Nurses r the best
+Rae Harm +carissaswiley Thank you for your service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

You are awsome!🌹Born to be a mommy! So happy to see you are doing well and so happy. God bless 👪
Many congratulations on the safe arrival of your precious little Charlotte, I have a precious bigger little Charlotte 😄😘
Loved the video. I was a huge fan of the mesh panties too. I took my own twice, but preferred the hospital ones. You look amazing, by the way!

+Pretty Neat Living Thanks so much for responding, and best of luck to you ❤️
Now that C.C is here would you be willing to show us an updated look at how you organize your car as a mommy.
+Simply Perfect Organization Maybe down the line when we go out more together...we're still home bound.
You look great Jen! Thanks for sharing your experience. Looking forward to more videos when you can!

Love seeing your mommy videos! You look amazing. Thank you for sharing. ❤️
She's adorable! Congrats.
I'm with you about one of the most essential things to travel with; scissors. I too never travel without a pair and it's surprising when you use them too!
Ha! Two days for a vag delivery!! Here in the UK you get 6 hours if there are no complications.
Congratulations on your new family x
You look amazing!! Motherhood fits you!!
I'm giving birth in May. So glad to see these videos

+Christiane Zhang same here, so happy to see what things where useful in the hospital and now
"I like to shave my underarms every day, it makes me feel human". YES! I feel the exact same way lol!
Thanks Jen, I appreciate your point of view post delivery. I believe experience teaches wisdom.
Congrats. CC is so beautiful and I'm truly happy for you and Don. I know what it's like to struggle with fertility issues. Thank you for letting me share in your journey as I am unable to have my own.
You look so pretty Jen...especially your hair. I'm too old to have a baby but still enjoyed the video and hearing our first words (peeps) from CC. ;-)
You seem to have it all together. I was sooo exhausted the first couple weeks!
Can't wait to see CC's room.
Lovely to see you here and congratulations! You look wonderful hope all going well, take care x
Great Video, Congratulations!! CeCe is beautiful!!x
YAY I was so excited to see your video in my subscription box!
I hope all is join well.
Although we're n the uk and dads can't stay the night at all so we wouldn't have needed any bits and pieces for him!
+Emma N I live in London second child due on the 27th my hospital now allows partners to stay 24/7. I was surprised to learn this as this was not the case for my first.
You are glowing, very happy to see you so happy...:)
I feel like a week ago u made a video that you were pregnant. And now baby girl is here. Its crazy.
Check out the Owlet Baby monitor sock, checks her status, her breathing, other things, it charges. It helps keep some sanity. And have you considered the book The Diaper Free Baby about Elimination Communication.
Looking fabulous Jen!
awesome and take it from someone who works in health care chocolate is so appreciated, not necessary but appreciated
