- The new Porsche 911 is here. The 992 is the eighth-generation of Porsche's iconic sports car and replaces the 991 model.
At launch, and so tested here by Prior, it's only available in 444bhp (450hp) Carrera S form, but in both two and four wheel drive, both versions of which now have the same body width. It's fitted with an eight-speed PDK twin clutch gearbox - a manual will be offered later - and stretches towards £100,000 in the UK.
That'll pitch it against some interesting rivals; probably everything from a Jaguar F-Type through a Mercedes-AMG GT to the likes of the Audi R8 and, in the faster 911 forms yet to come, the likes of the Aston Martin Vantage and McLaren 570S.
But what's it like right now? We take to the track at Valencia and the roads surrounding it to find out.

So many people complaining about this FREE content! Not all presenters are loud, shouty, “EVERYTHING IS AWESOME” style vloggers (Mr JWW, Shmee etc). If that’s what you want, watch their channels. Personally I don’t need the presenter to be giggling, yelping and shouting to convey their feelings of enjoyment.
Yes, I can't stand the OTT "HEY GUYS, DON'T FORGET TO HIT THAT SUBSCRIBE BUTTON". Autocar vids aren't made for people with the attention span of a goldfish. I enjoy these vids.

Without a doubt the best reviewers on UA-cam along with Chris Harris. If you want an overgrown child who doesn't actually know how to drive round a track then by all means go watch Shmee, but we all know they're just spoilt rich kids who don't actually know anything about, chassis balance, steering feel etc. All they talk about is how excited they are, this guy actually gives you some interesting insight and substance, keep them coming AutoCar the competition for useful information is almost non existent!
I have doubts he knows how to drive around a track, does more like he drives through town. Looks like some wasted laps to me, in the camera angle they showed he could be anywhere.
Jethro and Catchpole are amazing too

What a great evolution to the 991, & Matt Prior is as technical & sharp as they get! My best friend has just purchased a brand new 991 Carrera T, & what a brilliant vehicle that turned out to be!

Track driving and voiceover sections are done separately, most often on separate cars. Any automotive UA-camr can tell you that. It probably helps them focus on the driving dynamics without having to speak to a camera. Great review Matt, btw.

Drives me crazy to see all the exterior shots of a red car and the interior shots are in a yellow car. That yellow mirror jumps out at me every time they switch from an exterior to an interior shot.

The car is different when shown inside and outside. Red is shown and from inside we can see colour of rvm to be yellow

It feels 'less rear engined' because it is. The engine in the 992 is 200mm further forward... and this dude reckons it's because of a wider front track?

agree completely. Porsche started out stupidly trying to make their SUVs look like an iconic sportscar, now they're going in the opposite direction: front end of the 992 is Macan and back end is a mix of Panamera & 718. The 991 was purer and better looking from those angles to me. Side-on, the 992 is nicer admittedly.
The 992 rear is not good

My question is, why are you shoving RED Porsche 911 in action on road and track, but it is obvious that you are driving YELLOW CAR when the camera is showing driving in the cabin. ?????

Of course not 100% sure but usually at a new car launch: This is just a low budget video from the launch press drive in Portugal or wherever. Porsche invites all the car magazines there and they mostly send one journalist there to drive the cars and write a review. For UA-cam channels like this Porsche then shoots it’s own videos of the new cars driving on track so that the magazines can use that footage. That way Matt and a GoPro can produce an entire first review on a very low budget

I really don't like thise black slats at the rear window. It's very Range Rover and not flowing body color with all the black. (maybe if all tye black were body color) No, those black plastic looking slats aren't doing it...very 90s style. (Fiero) Besides that, it's a decent improvement. I'll wait for the manual.

Sound is good, but most certainly muffled and with none of the high-rpm race car engine personality and excitement of the old naturally aspirated engines. While I would still go with the newer turbo engines just on power alone, I would expect Porsche, of all brands, to be able to figure out how to get more quality engine music out of their turbo engines. That said, while this is my favorite sports car of all, I still think all new 911's MSRP are easily 20-25% overpriced and the massive immediate depreciation on these demonstrates the same. That said, the 992 is easily the most beautiful 911 in a while thanks to those massive rear fenders now standard fare, and I can't wait to hopefully pick one up in 4years as a CPO if I'm able to.

Poorly informed commentator. If all 911s are wide body, they’ll all be like the Turbo. No, all non “Turbo” models are now on a Carrera 4 body, which was wider than the Carrera 2 body. The Turbo body is even wider than the Carrera 4 body.
