The Traveling Wilburys is a rock supergroup from 1988, made up of Roy Orbison, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, & Jeff Lynne. Roy had passed away when this video was made & they did a nice tribute to him with the guitar in the rocking chair. They had a lot of great songs such as "Handle With Care", "Heading For The Light", "Inside Out", "Tweeter & The Monkey Man", "Dirty World", "Last Night", "She's My Baby", "Rattled", "Nobody's Child", "Congratulations" etc. Sadly only 2 guys are now left from this group (Bob Dylan & Jeff Lynne).

The guitar in the rocking chair represents Roy Orbison, who tragically passed before this video was shot. Both of their albums are fantastic, and the whole group formed by the craziest of circumstances.

When anyone talks about a super group the first name mentioned should be The Traveling Wilburys. The drummer is the great session player Jim Keltner. He was an honorary Wilbury.

Roy Orbison was apart of the group when this album was recorded but unfortunately passed away just after the album was released. That's why during his part you see the rocking chair with the guitar and the photo in the background. Great tune and what are amazing group of songwriters.

Roy passed in December '88, and the video was filmed after his passing. Online it says the video was filmed in 1988 also. They wanted to remember him in it, so they show his guitar in the chair next to his photo during his vocals.
Fun fact, when they were recording the album, for which Jeff Lynne was also the producer, when mistakes happened he said (or they said) ”we'll bury it..." in the production process. That happened multiple times and was where they decided they were the Wilburys. They made up a backstory about the Wilburys and all picked a first name for themself.
It's also pretty funny that they made 2 albums and called the second volume 3 ;-)

  • @Spurlano420

The first time I heard this group, I was in a record store and they were playing their first album overhead. Everybody was bobbing their heads and tapping their toes. I was recognizing some of the voices, but it didn't make sense. I finally went to a clerk and asked who it was because I wanted to buy it. I was amazed and so happy and excited to find out about this combination of super talent. I couldn't wait to share it. It's so fun watching and listening to them. Love their drummer too.

That was George Harrison playing guitar and singing at the start, he also wrote the song.
This video was released in 1987 or 88. The 2008 date was probably a remix of video to bring the sound and video up to current standards at the time.
    Peace ❤

I love this song (and "Handle Me With Care"). This song is made even more poignant with the passing of Roy Orbison, Tom Petty & George Harrison, all of whom have reached 'the end of the line'. Roy Orbison had passed by the time they filmed the video. Thanks for playing this & your comments.

Roy sings his part right after Tom Petty, but you don't see him in the video because he died before it was made. The empty rocking chair with the guitar in it, was a very cool tribute to Roy Orbison's membership in the Band. He was the first to die. That was a nice touch for Roy. This was made in the late 80s or very early 90s.

The term "wilburys" was something George Harrison came up with for all the stage gear ie, amps, lights, mics, PA, guitars etc. George used it as a general term for all the crap they had to drag around in trucks and planes when they were on the road.

There is a video of them all creating music together which is both fun and heartbreaking since three of them left this earth much too soon. If you’d like more music with history, check out Concert For George to see Dhani Harrison along with a stage full of legends such as Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and others. I don’t know if you enjoy reading but, Eric Clapton’s autobiography, Led Zeppelin’s biography, and Steven Tyler’s autobiography all give a lot of insight on how all of these men (along with others) intermingled as rock and roll got started. (Steven Tyler’s reads just like he speaks!) These three just happen to be the books I’ve read. And, off topic, Bruce Springsteen narrates his own autobiography (great for road trips).
