How Much Hair Wax you should use depends on 4 factors.
1. The Length of your Hair
Guys with shorter hair don't need to use as much product as a guy with long hair. Although this seems completely self explanatory a lot of guys are still making mistakes. Guys with really short hair that looks super shiny, not because they have used a pomade, but because they have used too much product. It eventually leaves the hair looking greasy and unnatural. With a strong hold wax then use even less than normal as you can always add a little more if needed. If you're with short hair you will only need a very small amount of hair wax, about a fingertips worth should be suffice. If you're a guy with long hair or thick hair, I would recommend starting off with a fingertip amount but you may have to go back for another go and then apply again. Layering your styling wax is normally a better solution than just applying a larger amount in one go. It gives you a lot more control over your style.
2. Intended Hair Style
This is again partially down to do with hair length, but also down to the amount of hold that you may potentially need. Typically the more product that you use, the more hold you can get, but you have to be careful that it doesn't weigh your hair down. Generally guys that have more flat hairstyles aren't going to need as much as someone that wants a big lifted hairstyle.
3. Type of Product that you're using
In reality there are a bunch of different types of hair products out there that perform quite a lot differently from each other. The more sticky product will have a stronger hold, so the sticker the product the less you will need to use.
4. Have you used a Pre-Stlyer or not

If you haven't heard of pre-styling before it's essentially we you use some form of product to add lots of volume. You apply the pre-styler before you apply the hair wax and blast it with a blow dryer. This gives your hair lots of volume and structure. The reason that this is important is as it directly correlates to the amount of hair wax you need to use.
