- As we continuously develop ourselves for the world of work, we need to ensure we have the relevant education that applies to our field. A traditional MBA or masters degree would usually suffice for most industries, however in Fintech there is a demand for more specialised skills. In this video I delve into the pro's of having a masters degree( MBA) versus taking professional courses or certification programs. This should help us answer the question of which is better for a career in Fintech and the changing world of tech.

What has been your dilemma when it comes to choosing which educational certification is best for your career? Let me know🙂
Seeking to switch careers. My associates is not regionally accredited but has me limited in the industry in which I work. I love my current career but not the industry. I’m a thought leader and looking to reinvent myself!
been needing an answer to this question, thank you
Most welcome
Thank you for sharing. This is really helpful.
Very welcome Anita, happy you found it worth while😊🙏🏼
This is relevant information even for those who aren't following a fintech career path. Looking forward to your next vidéo Remy
Thanks Angorkor, I appreciate the continued support :)
I enjoyed how slow and precisely you speak. I was able to grasp your talking points and comprehend very clearly. Wonderful video...Jeremy
I appreciate it Bei. Glad I could offer value in an understandable way 🙏🏼
Thanks Remy… I find this knowledge share particularly useful as this often puts people in a dilemma when the decision has to be made. It helps put a lot into perspective. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏾

Great and relevant videos. I have been following your videos for months and I must say ,you keep improving by the day. Thank you for the good information you put out there .
For this I subscribe.
I appreciate it very much Jemima, you're motivating me to be better. Thank you.
Good share JQ…… I like this 👍🏻.
This very topic has been a real torture in the past.
First, conundrum of following the crowd, getting a second degree because everyone was getting it just to feel relevant.
Second, certification, then job change in whatever field because of proper consideration. At the end, lots of degrees and certification are harnessed yet not exactly needed.
I know people who were busy adding on to degrees and certification while waiting on a job.
The dilemma with the choice to make between a degree and certification is real.
Absolutely bro, most people see getting a second degree as paying for a the qualification so they're not left behind. Then the same happens with certifications as well. Doing everything we can to stay relevant and give ourselves the best opportunities. But it doesn't always translate into the opportunities such as jobs or better salary. Hustle culture really is killing us.
@@JeremyQuainoo it is a very sensitive, necessary and thought provoking presentation. It got me. It is a must listen to for everyone. I recall the challenge I face with non related programs and certification and for the fact that I did not want to feel left out. Our orientation is damning. Thanks for this, I would have wanted this some 14years ago Charlie. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@niiodailayee6641 I went through the same my guy, this is also the information I wish I had during my dliema.
Hey jeremy!
What if i dont have the financial background (i'm an engineer) . Should i take first my msc in finance and then specialized in fintechs and data (with different certifications) , or should i skip the general finance world and go direct to a data or financial techonoly master degree and then a few programming certifications?? Im so confused right now!! Hope you can help me.
Great content btw...
Hi Marie, appreciate you watching the channel🙂. I understand your dilemma, considering your background is technical as an engineer, i would say the better option is to build on that and rather go for a fintech masters and programming certifications. The finance aspect you would get in a finance msc. is likely to be included in a fintech masters. This allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds and build on your past experience to make you more marketable. Fintech's tend to pursue more technical talent so it becomes a bonus if you have the fintech knowledge as well but not necessarily a finance specialization. Hope that helps.
Hello Jeremy...I finished my Bsc in Economics, is it okay for me to do a masters in fintech or do I need a particular skillset before attempting it?
Hi Obinna, I believe neither takes precedence. If you're looking to obtain the skillset from work experience then that has immense value, but in the same vein acquiring the skillset from a masters degree also has merit as well. I was working when I did my masters and that worked well for me but the alternative also works. So again its really a matter of choice and your unique circumstance.

Hello Saptarshi, thanks for watching the videos. Unfortunately i'm not in the US so i'm not best to recommend. However, having an MBA is essential for a career in the finance spaces you've highlighted. So I would encourage your initiative in that direction;
That is great pls I wish to take some certification on fintech pls can u pls help with side that I can take this course for free online? Presently am degree holder in banking and finance I wish to relocate to UK through school rout pls I just need some advice.
Skillshare and Udemy are good sites to catch a few freebies
Instead of an MBA, would an MSc in Financial Technology (FinTech) be worth it instead?
Hi Hannah, yes certainly. An MSc in Fintech is still a masters degree and is actually specialised enough to give you that foundational and in-depth knowledge you require. So it definitely works fine.
What if you have both a MBA and cert in PMP/ CSM/CAPM
Then you are in prime position and a valuable asset to the market
What do you think the salary would be
@@maxwellperry3652 Its really hard to tell. It depends on your location and the company recruiting. But I expect it to be in the higher end of the spectrum if you make it to the offer stage.
Okay so at the end of it all, which would you say is better for a fintech company? Don’t play safe with both, give me your opinion on which is better.
Hahaha Nii. If you put me in a corner I would recommend taking the certification courses and developing specific skills. Fintechs hire more for what you can do than what you know. So you need to be very good at what you do and the focused courses facilitate this better than broad masters degrees. That would be my pick if I had to chose.
