Hey Jim, I was listening to your upright bass work on John LaPorta's cd Life Cycle. Very cool. I met John years ago and was impressed by his dedication to the music and also to the young students of jazz here in Florida.
Great lesson, Jim. So clear ! Plus, I find that a 2-feel bassline is a good starting point to construct a walking bassline: the easiest possibility is simply to repeat each note twice. For smoother walking, one can add an approach note to beat 1, or to both beat 1 and beat 3.
Oups. I sure did not intend to "teach" or step on your toes in any way. I just described my own practice, for anyone to comment on it. Sorry if I made a mistake.
No prob. If you'll notice, I discourage debate here. There are numerous other places online to go for musical debates. This is where I offer MY teaching online. The process you described is NOT how I teach walking bass.
What a great lesson on two-beat bass lines!!!! Thanks for this useful lesson Jim!
you welcome
You’re kind of the Bob Ross of bass. Thank you for the lesson.
This is my first time seeing this guy, and Bill Kirby, You're right !
I really enjoy your lessons because you seems to be worried about the groove and the role that bass must have in the music! Congratulations!

Thanks. Your "teaching" here is not necessary. I'll do that.

Excellent lesson. I don't have an upright but enjoyed playing along with my electric bass. Thank you.
Should I use this when each chord lasts a bar?
