Thx for the vid, it helped to overclock my 980 even though am using the p6x58d premium. I couldn't get to 4.2 but I did get it to 4.0. Close enough for me. I also got the noctua heat sink and it keeps my cpu cool. Average 33 to 36 celsius in idle and 45 to 50 celsius on load. Thx again.
X AK if it's still cheap yeah go for it, but if it's expensive then 6700k would be better. :) I still have my x5650 from years ago got it to 5ghz on 2cores 1.6v 4.6ghz 1.45v best cpu I ever had.

My 4930k only does 4.4ghz at 1.3v and it poops it self after that won't go further. Even with 1.5v but I got it at 4.2ghz 1.22v 38c on the hottest core :)
@SchijtXD cool yea im waiting for the Kepler core to come out before i upgrade my gfx card again the 600 series kepler core is supposed to be 3 times faster than the fermi core
@SchijtXD if you have the same motherboard, and cpu then these specs should be fine for you... but watch your temps, what heatsink/cooler do you have? if you have a stock i7-980 heatsink i'd stick to 4.0, maybe 4.2 if temps are good which they should be.. the i7-980 stock heatsink is pretty sick.
Hello friend,i bay a Alienware aurora R1 whit I7 980(non extreme) like yours, bios is A11...can u help me to clock my pc from 3.33mhz to 4.0mhz...please?
well im using the noctua nh-d14 heatsink now, and I was going to buy a reference GTX 680, but im waiting for the Asus GTX680 DirectCU II. I sill run it at same specs 4.2ghz with 12gb 2005mhz ram. Temps i dont bother watching anymore heh, there very nice and cool at 30C-35C with playing skyrim Maxed with mods.
Hey Buddy im not sure if i posted on this video or not . however the reason your UNCLK wont set right is becuz the Ratio for a gulftown 6 core cpu regardless of which one is 1.5 times the memory .. set it like that and you will be fine.
Your UNCOR is not 2 times memory speed on. A Gulftown 32nm chip .. The correct formula is 1.5 times the memory speed .. Use this formula and you will find it won't crash anymore ...have fun !!! Oh and p.s set your IOH AND ICH voltages to auto no need to up them, you will only heat up MB temps for no reason..
Oh one more thing... Why didn't you use the stock Intel cooler ? It works much better than the one your using .. I have same chip with same overclock ,using stock cooler with the switch set to" P" for performance and my Idol Temp is 27c. And I run Prime for one hour and max Temps are 42c ... Also use MX 4 , paste.. Trust me you will see...
Also have that processor. I overclocked it to 4.2 on the stock cooler stable. Very cool though keep at it! Its fast!

Nice video, I used an N100 with Cougar fans, they're awsome!!! I'll try the Noctua on my next build.....
I use 22x multi on my cpu I don't incease it, I only do base clock more stable for my i7 980x I got 4.84ghz stable on a h100i with 1.56vcore
too much voltage
X AK still going strong haha but I upgraded to 4930k
GamingTurkey 4930k great chip

@PhatboyHD88 thanks you, I appreciate the input.
glad i could help, good luck with the OC
Uncore frequency should be at 1.5x you're ram on Gulftown (i7 900 6 core 32nm cpus), the quad cores at 2x RAM.
@Sysinput ive got the stock cooler of intel 980
