    For whomever watches this, keep this in mind while you do. This game was played around 6 weeks before Michael Jordan's 39th birthday. He's playing against guys 10-15 or more years younger than him. He's the best player on the court despite being way past his prime.

    Then he proceeded to score 45 points in just 3 quarters.
    And people compare current players to him?

      The Bulls at the end of the 97-98 season had *at least* one more championship in them and arguably two. There's a very plausible alternate reality where Jordan retires as a Bull at the end of the 99-00 season with eight rings on his fingers.
      Jerry Krause, true to his character and reputation (and out-of-touch egoist with a distorted sense of his own importance), dismantled the second three-peat-era Bulls before their time. He prematurely ended arguably the greatest dynasty in sports.

    Kenyon Martin was an elite defender and was almost 20 years younger than MJ in this clip. KMart also weighed 30+ more pounds than Jordan with a 3" height advantage and still could not slow him down in the post. This video shows that even close to the age of 40 (with much of his athletism diminished), Jordan's basketball IQ, skill and strength at the guard position is unmatched. What makes all this shit even crazier is that this same Nets team made it to the Finals. A prime MJ ('88-'93) + the no handchecking rule would allow Jordan to humiliate the competition in the 2000s.

    • @m42037
      @m42037 3 роки тому +1

      Not 93, MJ was prime till 98! Every year with the Bulls he was fkn amazing, better than James or Kobe.

      @@m42037 I never said Jordan wasn't great in '98 (Jordan's entire career as a Bull was legendary). I said his prime years were in the late 80s to early 90s - prior to his 1st retirement. Every knowledgeable basketball fan knows Jordan's absolute physical peak was from the '87-88 season to the 92-93 season. Yeah, after he came out of retirement the 1st time (after baseball) he was still amazing and the best player in the league. But his game in 1998 was less explosive and he relied more on mid-range jumpshots and fadeaways. Was he still great? HELL YEAH! However, Jordan was 35 years old in 1998. He was not in his prime in the '98 season. No athlete is in their prime in their mid 30s. Again, he was still the best player during the 2nd 3peat run ('95-'96 season to the '97-98 season). However, the point I was trying to make in my previous post is this: if a 39 year old [Wizards] version of Jordan could drop 45 points on Kenyon Martin, imagine what a peak version of Jordan would do.

    • @m42037
      @m42037 3 роки тому

      @@WARMATRiX_ No athlete is in his prime at 35? I was (drummer), Tom Brady was/is, (and save the long bomb bs Brady never was a bomber) and will win another ring or two, I could write all day guy's that are still fabulous in their mid 30s, MJ was a smarter player as he got older, so what if he wasn't running as fast, he was doing more on the court in his 30s. We're living longer, boxer's are fighting into their 40s now unlike decades past when a fighter was done in his late 30s. Tschüss

    • @WARMATRiX_
      @WARMATRiX_ 3 роки тому

      @@m42037 Tom Brady is an exception. He is playing well in his mid 40s at the QB position. Most athletes are not in their prime in their mid 30s, let alone their mid 40s. This is common knowledge. I NEVER said athletes can't play or perform well in their 30s. I merely said Jordan's physical prime was 87-88 to 92-93. He was not in his prime at age 35. Yeah, Jordan got smarter as he got older. That is the case with most athletes. You learn more as you get older. However, the body breaks down as you get older as well. What I'm referring to is peak performance of an athlete. This is when you are at your physical apex + you have experience and mental toughness all rolled into one. Of course, modern technology allows athletes to play better for a longer periods and have extended careers, allowing them to play well into their 30s. But that doesn't change the fact that every athlete has prime years. In basketball, your physical prime is usually mid to late 20s - and in some cases early 30s. Jordan was not doing more on the court in his 30s. That is false and you are wrong. He won defensive player of the year in 1988. His most prolific scoring years came prior to his first retirement in '93. He averaged more steals, blocks and assists per game prior to his 1st retirement as well. PER is the best way to judge a player's performance. Jordan's best PER years were '88, '89, '90, '91. Numbers don't lie. This is not up for debate. Bye.

Kobe Bryant is ARGUABLY the best player in the NBA today. MJ, when active with the Bulls, was the best player in the NBA. Chew on that and bring it to Phil Jackson.

    Kobe will always be the G.O.A.T........next to MJ. Even at a younger age of 37 Kobe wasn't as quick, strong, or efficient as MJ when he was 40yrs old. MJ was still ballin, hittin 40 point games at the age of 40!!!!!!! This is insane people!!!

    Okay this man was being guarded by a young Kenyon Martin, a legit powerhouse, awesome player, very strong, and Michael literally literally made him his bitch. He was the top pick in the 2000 draft and Jordan basically murdered him. At the age of 39 or possibly 40 he just out ran the entire Nets team, no one could guard him at all. This man in his prime in today's game, i guarantee you he would average 39 a game easily, very easily. One scary ass player, he breathes basketball.

    If jordan had a little more help in this wizard team, they can make it to the playoffs. Jordan is so competitive that he want to know what is his limitations in terms of playing,who can stop him.

    Just a reminder youngsters: Fundamentals (individual and team) is still the foundation of any sport especially Basketball. Strength, Size, Athleticism are only meant to complement and boost fundamentals. It is not a substitute and a shortcut to achieve results. That's the reason why MJ was still this good even at 38-40 years of age and outplaying younger and more athletic players as you can see in this vid.
