Paimon was indeed inside of Charlie, but with her being female, she wasn't the intended definitive host. The mom explains that she wouldn't let the grandma approach Peter when he was born but cut her some slack when Charlie came around. Charlie's spirit was the most suitable for the demon, but her body was incompatible (that's why people say the grandma wanted Charlie to be a boy). The grandma managed to "store" Paimon inside of Charlie until Peter was vulnerable enough to be possessed. Charlie's death was arranged by the Cult, as a way to weaken the family. Some random symbolism (cuz I'm a nerd). - The clicking sound is actually Paimon directing the host. In the book, you can see him riding a camel, usually camels are directed by their riders using clicking sounds. If you watch back, you'll see that when Charlie or Peter make the sounds, they always do it before moving. - When Peter gets possessed in the classroom, the hand gesture he makes is the same Paimon's scepter is depicted to have in the book. The way Peter's face contorts kinda feels like he's held on by a thread like a puppet. - In order for the ritual to be completed, Paimon demanded three beheadings (he has 3 heads at his belt in the book). Charlie was 1st, then the grandma, then finally Annie. - Peter dies after he jumps out the window, you can see his soul leaving his body and then Paimon entering him. - Annie's brother kills himself because the grandma tried to give him away to Paimon. At the grieving session, Annie says that the brother accused their mom of "putting people inside him".
She said "I tried to save you" when she told him about not wanting to have him because subconsously she was trying to save them from the Grandma. This movie is soo gooood!!!
THEE Toni Collette was robbed by not being nominated for an Oscar. The fact performances like hers and Lupita in Us get ignored repeatedly by the Academy because it's a "horror" film or whatever they say to omit it BS. They deserved some accolades.Same for Alex Wolff too. They killed those roles!
I feel so bad for Anne this movie. The dinner scene part where she screams "no one admits to anything they've done", I feel like it's just what she felt though her whole life. Her mother lied to her, her life is filled with trauma and lies around family, motherhood, her children - or even having children - it's just... a lot. Her life was never hers, she was a tool for those people to get what they wanted. I understand why she makes miniatures, I guess it gives her some type of control over what happens in her life, and also since she feels removed from her own life and carries do much guilt, that's a way to illustrate that? I think this movie is more sad than anything else.
"First of all, What was that music?" HAHA yeah... that director has the habit of putting cheery happy music at the end of his horror movies x'D I LOVE that you actually got that Charlie possesed Peter at the end, bc Paimon needed a male host
well now you have to watch Midsommar (another move by Ari Aster)!!!!! Also to get better clarification about the ritual/cult/and things you might missed in the movie... like Annie in the top left corner at 36:23, I would watch "hereditary explained" videos on YT!!!!
Yay finally!! This is one of those movies you can watch several times and pick up something new every time. You should watch a Hereditary "easter egg" or "Hereditary explained" clip and see all the things you missed...
I would highly recommend listening to a song called Both Sides Now by Judy Collins. That's the song that plays at the end and I think it is significant to the movie.
I found your channel right when you started, and you’ve been top-tier ever since. The fact you don’t have more than 7000 subscribers is royally unfair. Keep up the excellent work ❤❤
Every host who was carrying the demon had to get their head chopped, so the demon settles in another host. Grandma > bird > Charlie; Joan made Annie evoke the demon to her house, since Charlie lost her head in the outside. He tried to get Peter, unsuccessfully. Annie then got possessed and had to to cut her own head off to allow the demon to get Peter.
One of the best horror movies I've seen. This is genuine scary. Most horror movies aren't really scary other than some jump scares. They're more fun scary. I had to watch this a few times to understand it. The acting, story, and cinematography were great. It's told from the family's POV, so we're as clueless as they are throughout the movie. Grandma and the cult organized and planned it all along.
This movie was BRUTAL to watch. I hated these parents SO much, and the fact the father just went along with her crazy ass for YEARS instead of protecting his child by taking him away from her. . . ugh. Because Annie was totally bananas, I get that. Her mother ruined her. But what was the HUSBAND's deal? He was aware his wife was batshit, but he didn't protect his son from her. Which is why I titled my own reaction "The Father is the Villain of the Piece." Because I believe he absolutely is.
This is by far my favourite horror movie of all time. Only way I think Ari aster could have really created an Oscar winning film is if in the end we had learned there wasn’t any haunting or possession coming, just truly hereditary mental health issues that destroyed this family. But still, 10/10 film
I was definitely one of the people that warned you about this movie. Your reactions are top tier. People are gonna recommend Midsommar now. It's the same director and it's disturbing like Hereditary with added gore and sexuality.
Depending on how you look at it the movie had a happy ending. Queen Leigh and her coven got what they set out to do and achieved a successful possession lol. They're certainly happy! 😁 I loved your reaction to this film!
This movie traumatized me when I first saw it (and I can usually handle horror movies). I've since watched several reaction videos of it, but watching this as you reacted to it is the only one that traumatized me again. 😁
After watching this movie I was making the clicking sound while walking around. 😀 the mama was probably sleepwalking and doing that to somehow prevent the satanic acts of the group.
I loved your reaction so much! Hereditary is my favorite horror film… definitely not a fun watch, but the dread created by Ari Aster is unmatched in my opinion. I grew up on horror, and this is the only film I watched as an adult that truly got under my skin! How this didn’t rack up awards is a travesty. Definitely give Midsommar a watch. Different vibe than Hereditary, but I’d love to see your reaction to it!❤
Now to unwind with silly little horror movies like terrifier or Texas chainsaw massacre. Then you can watch the other ari aster movies - midsommar and beau is afraid. Even funnier than this one
The minute we hear about the background of this family I knew there was some old spiritual curses on them!! and they was gonna need something much stronger than group therapy ijs 😩
The name of the lady who played the mother in the movie is Toni Collette and she has a wonderful comedy movie called Little Miss Sunshine which I recommend watching
And the EPIC tv series.. "United States Of Tara"... where she played a wife and mother living with D.I.D (Previously known as multiple personality disorder. ❤BRILLIANT work
I always forget that Toni Colette is Australian. Because I’m so used to her doing such amazing American accents in her films. Down to her Brooklyn accent in the sixth sense
This one's a lot, isn't it Mike? I kind of sat there at the end like you did. It takes a lot in the horror genre to disturb me... Most movies that disturb me aren't even horror films. But this one has grown on me with repeated viewings... It actually gets scarier each time I watch it. It is such a beautifully shot film, as you said, and the music is quite good too. And yes I agree with everyone that Toni Collette should have been nominated for an Oscar for this, but horror is not a popular genre at the Academy Awards. Keep up the awesome reactions!
Great reaction I saw this in theater and everyone had that same face by the end. 😂 You should do Midsommar now totally different vibe but just as traumatic.
I’ve slept walked but usually just food related lol or moving things around lol. Like I’ve found carrots in the cabinet. Another time I woke up in the middle of me moving a fan to the other side of the room. Scary though so I told my doctor.
damn this one really is a lot to dive into early on, it's one of my absolute favorites though! didn't care for it on first watch but subsequent rewatches have been crazy satisfying to me, there's just so much to dig into which i love. excited to see ur reaction
It is a complete travesty that Toni Collette was not nominated for the Academy award for this movie!

Honestly this movie has sooo many tiny details that make it better the second/third time you watch it.
Agreed.
So true.
If you have the stomach to watch it again which I don’t. I watched this late on a Saturday night and this film messed me up.
@@suedoughnim6665 if you haven’t watched the boogeyman, I highly suggest that one at night. It terrified me so much, I had to take breaks. Lol.
the way you dodged the worst jumpscare by clicking at the same time as Charlie 😭thanks for the reaction ❤

Ditto!!!

36:14 did you not notice that here when it switched from day to night, there are about 30 naked people standing outside around the house lol
36:24 aw man and you missed Annie up in the left hand corner of his room!
Most folks forget the people in the woods. They are in the film way before most people notice.
I would highly recommend listening to a song called Both Sides Now by Judy Collins. That's the song that plays at the end and I think it is significant to the movie.
Hereditary makes you scared of the dark. Midsommar makes you scared of the light.

A person can be killed by an avalanche too. That doesn't mean the avalanche murdered that person.
