    Your enthusiasm over the silk is very contagious. And although the pink isn’t as rich as the other yarn, the gray looks more silver then the other Yarns so the trade-off is kind of interesting. If you want to dye other colored Yarns then yes I would say go for the higher dye content, but that silver is stunning and should be done exactly the same way every time because it’s gorgeous. Thanks for sharing!

    I loved the silk video, thank you! I dyed my own handspun mulberry silk fibre and it took the colour fabulously - wonderfully saturated colour and no felting. I wish I could use silk all the time :) By the way, if anyone is interested, after a bit of experimenting, I decided to knit the silk with linen stitch and I loved the result.

      @@sleepydrJ Yes, reactive dyes on silk (both thread and fabric). I don't know why it works (chemically speaking), though. I used the same method and quantities as for plant fibers (cotton and linen). So far, I think my results are good, but I didn't do a lot of tests to see if I can/need to adjust the pH differently with soda ash. The silk takes the colour beautifuly, vibrantly, and keeps its shine. I have a soft spot for silk. :)

      Seide einweichen am besten über Nacht, oder mindestens 3-4 Stunden im heißem Wasser mit 1 Tropfen Spülmittel und 1 EL Essig in Schüssel.Spülmittel ist kein Muss, ohne und mit - ich habe keinen Unterschied gemerkt. Nur falls Sie nachher im Topf monofarbe färben- niemals Seide ausdrücken- ausgedrückte Stellen ziehen dann schneller Farbe ein , und werden dunkler. Somit wird das Ergebniss fleckig.Ich färbe oft, immer 600-800 Gramm Mulberry Seide , für Kleider, in Monofarben in 2 Töpfen.Immer einzelne skeins 50 gramm/850 meter im viel Wasser und viel sanft umrühren . Grundsätzlich braucht Seide mehr Farbe( x2, x3...) Manche Farben aber möglich durch Temperetur- Erhöhung bis 80 - 90 Grad zu intensivieren- Schwarz, Violett...❤

    Would the color on the 100% silk turn out darker if the wool yarns weren’t soaking up more of the dye? Just curious.

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  4 роки тому

      In this case, the pigmentation difference was not due to the one skein absorbing more dye than the rest. Since the pan was so low immersion, the colors couldn't spread very much between the skeins. (And the colors looked SUPER similar until the yarn was dry.) The bigger difference is how the fibers look wet versus dry. Silk needs more pigment to have as deep a color as the wool does. This may be based on how the dye penetrates in the fiber, and things like that.
      I've seen this with wool and wool/acrylic blends before, too. The 100% wool looked very similar to the 20% wool / 80% acyrlic when we dyed it... until the yarn was dry.
