I actually like Mayu, her voice and some songs sound ... sad in a yandere way.

Anyhow, cool, just stopping by..I am so tempted at times go into this rabbit hole and combine it with my noobi DAW skills, to also have a singer there in to sing new lyrics. It was curious to see the Honda robots sing in harmony using this software...wonder, where robots are headed, AI+ singers?
No, they are not going to be forgotten. Crypton works hard to bring us those voicebanks and I'm sure they also enjoy the fact that there are other vocaloids aside from the ones they make. Why, when people think about the "original vocaloid family" with Gumi and Luka, they almost always forget Gakupo... he is from the same genration than Luka ! (not sure of my english, kisses from france anyways, vocaloids fans o/)
Actually, you can't categorize vocaloids in that way. The songs they sing depend on the producer. If someone is writing a yandere song, they could use Luka or whoever's voice they feel fits the song, they don't need to use Mayu.

It is logical for some people to consider all 40 as a family, so they may get offended by comments like yours.

Sorry to ruin your bubble world, but the first vocaloids were Leon, Lola, Miriam, and Meiko in 2004, with Kaito in 2005, miku wasnt made until 2007. and the others you named in 2008-2009 so of all those you named, only 2 are in the founding family sorry.
I dont usually like Vocaloid's voices but this one remembers me to Namine Ritsu from UTAU (voice, outfit, sad songs) I prefer Ritsu but Mayu is good too ^^
Actually you can't label Vocaloid artist's type of songs because Miku also sings "Nonsense speaker" and Rin sang "I wanna be a princess" and the other Vocaloids sing Yandere songs too. Vocaloids aren't meant to have one type of songs to sing, but a lot of variety to appeal to many different listeners.
