    If you’re going to cross oceans you might as well have two lifpo batteries for redundancy. Awesome build! Looks like you’re doing everything high quality on the structure.

      Thank you. Two would be great but they are pretty expensive. I'll likely start with one and add one if needed later.

    She’s coming along! I had a question also, is the whole boat going to be covered in one last layer of glass, then flipping it over and doing another final layer of glass?

    • @ocean_capable_small_sailboat
      @ocean_capable_small_sailboat  Рік тому +1

      I was planning to have 1 last layer go over the top, but the deck feels so solid with the existing fiberglass + the multiple layers on the panel seams I'm starting to feel it would just be excess weight. The bottom will get more fiberglass than the deck, the area near where the keels mount will end up with the most, but that's all coming later.

      @@ocean_capable_small_sailboat She’s going to be bulletproof! I’m looking forward to the keel fin castings as well. Great project captain perry, I’m really enjoying this build! Fingers crossed for 10k!!!

    Nice to see some shiny bits of metal going on the boat even if it is just a dry fit.
    Just a couple of questions if you don't mind. Why did you decide tomount the electrical board so low in the boat? I would have thought that the higher the better would apply for something that needs to be kept dry.
    What blade did you use for cutting the HDPE sheet? Last time I tried to cut some I ended up with a mess.

    • @ocean_capable_small_sailboat
      @ocean_capable_small_sailboat  Рік тому +1

      The board was cut with the same blade I use for G-10 or fiberglass, it's a diamond edge made for cutting things like tile. The battery and switch/breaker panel are low to keep the weight low in the boat. I plan for these areas to stay dry because I don't have any through-hulls below the waterline, no engine shafts or anything like that. Also the only openings above are 2 air vents and 1 watertight hatch for entry into the boat. So my hope is the cabin will be very dry.

    thank you for your videos! I'm currently building a small boat myself. When do you start with the sailing rig? I want to make mine similar to yours, but I don't know exactly how to implement it yet.

      You're welcome! Glad you are enjoying. I'm just focused on getting the hull done before moving on to the keels and then the sailing rig.

    How in the world will you keep the lines from the deck through the bulkhead from chafing? Seems like an obvious failure point. Maybe I missed something! Love the videos. Been subscribed from the beginning.

      I hope I get you right and this helps you. He has shown a stanless steal tube with flared flanges for the through hole, for the line.

    Do you have a target weight for the entire boat?

    • @ocean_capable_small_sailboat
      @ocean_capable_small_sailboat  Рік тому

      No, my priority is to make her very strong, and the weight will be what it will. But I'm also not looking to end up too heavy so I'm trying not to be excessive with the fiberglassing. It's a balance.

    👁️👁️ Is the core foam or plastic - i thought it was plastic like a bucket?

  • @actual_nonsense
    @actual_nonsense Рік тому

    What would you estimate the mass of an average square foot of a glassed section of foam is? I ask so I can enter a rough value in a simulator. Looking online is more complex than I want, or is about keeping a house warm.

    • @ocean_capable_small_sailboat
      @ocean_capable_small_sailboat  Рік тому

      Once glassed maybe similar to same thickness plywood. 1.1lbs/sq ft.

    • @ocean_capable_small_sailboat
      @ocean_capable_small_sailboat  Рік тому

      Sure. Maybe even .9lb or so, I think the end result is a little lighter than plywood. Most of the volume is taken up by the super light foam, afterall.@@actual_nonsense
