- This video shows the full roster of Playable Characters and secondary Kameo Fighters in Mortal Kombat 1 (Full Game) including unlockable characters and Shang Tsung DLC.
At the time of the game's launch there are 23 playable characters and 15 Kameo Characters (secondary helper characters). Kameo Characters can be summoned in combat to help you but they have a cooldown after each attack. This cooldown automatically recharges over time. You can't play Kameo characters yourself, only summon them briefly while playing a main character, they will do a quick strike (depending on your button input) and then they disappear until you summon them again (if the cooldown has refreshed).

Kinda wished that Scorpion, Sub Zero and Kung Lao kameos were replaced with Nightwolf, Kabal, and Skarlet kameos instead. Kinda like the kameos to be all non playable main fighters.
Agreed me personally would liked to see Female Nightwolf Hsu Hao and also Kabal

it's not a easy way, with kameos game becomes more diverse and hard for developer to balance, right now there are 360 options to chose, it's insane compared to the past 3 games combined, don't call it lazy, NRS mainly focusing on making innovation to the fighting genre, not all developers would go into this road, but it's very refreshing and in time will get appreciated.
I haven’t been able to genuinely play Cyrax since MK9. For the love of god, I just want to play as Cyrax
So while there are modern interpretations of Scorpion and Sub-Zero, the kameo versions maintain their classic look. Very cool.

Funny enough, Kotal and Sheeva were mentioned in the story mode.

Also in case people are wondering there are many unplayable characters and kameos exclusive to story. For example all playable characters have a kameo versions of themselves that you cannot select and only available in story(IE Scorpion and Subzero has a story mode kameo that uses their current look and moveset). Quan-Chi is dlc only and is not unlockable, this goes for his kameo as well which is exclusive to story mode only and is not unlockable. The blank character slot is not an unlockable character, it’s a character selection extender that will open up a whole other character selection menu for dlc characters, same for the kameo selection menu. Shang Tsung is pre-order dlc only, not unlockable, though you can still unlock and buy skins for him even if you don’t own him. The “24th” character could just be the boss character, Titan Shang Tsung(no he is not playable by normal means). The game is fun, the story is fun as well. As a big fan of MK you will definitely enjoy the game. Trust me you will enjoy the game as much as I am enjoying it.

"The blank character slot is not an unlockable character, it’s a character selection extender that will open up a whole other character selection menu for dlc characters" --- you don't know that. the blank spot is on the far bottom right. there's no room for it to extend anywhere like the character select extender on MK9's menu. so i call cap on that one.

With the number of special moves and fatalities already implemented in the Kameos, I hope that someday the Kameo fighters would also be playable. I mean, it would bring more combo and gameplay potential and would be a big but understandable missed opportunity if it NRS decided to keep it as it is.

Yooooo Shujinko being in here made me so happy. Deception is my favorite MK game of all time and I used to actually main shujinko in that game. He was a super fun character to play and you would naturally get really good with him in the Konquest mode

This roster is so insane. I love how the story is starting from the beginning with all the characters. I just bought a PS5 and I’m waiting to move into my new apartment. I got four games including this one and I can’t wait to play it.

What if in this timeline Kano and Sonya switch roles. Kano would be Colonel Kano of the British SAS. Instead of his metal face he’d wear an eye patch (think of a Captain Price like character) and Sonya blade L would be a latina guerrilla fighter from Colombia working for the Cartel.

We know 1 Kameo character is going to be Quan chi. If you dont believe me check out Maximillion doods vid on gear when he goes into the tower at the very top we see Quan Chi as a kameo fighter. Since he is already confirmed DLC for Kombat Pack 1 we can tell that we can expect DLC to put kameos on the main roster like hopefully someone like Goro would be cool or Sareena since shes really unique in the Kameo Roster

@@kaigeroberts1355 The story has to differ form MK 9. Every character in MK 1 is a new and alternate version of themselves with a new origin. Kabal could be in the game, he just needs a different story.

Yes, there is different gear too. You can mix and match what you like with different skins and create your own look.

Regarding for the unlock characters I think we need to unlock them in the story
To have that blank character slot in both normal and kameo makes me really think it's reserved for kreate a fighter. Would only make sense considering the story based "reference's" and that the last few nether realm games had customizable parts.
I would rather have the kameo characters be playable as well.

I hope in a future Kombat pack that they will include Judge Dredd & the Dark Dredds, Evil Ernie, & a few Killer Instinct characters would be incredible if it were possible.

So, how do you unlock the characters and kameos?
Invasions
According to the Kombat Kast that happened a few hours ago, everything is unlocked thru general play. They did that so that no one feels excluded. If you only like to play single-player, you can unlock things via the various single player modes, same with multiplayer modes. Likewise, if you enjoy both, you can unlock via both ways. Also, if you want to unlock character-specific items, just play as that character. That's how I understood what the devs themselves said. If you're able, I totally support watching it when you can. I may have misunderstood, and don't want to give incorrect info

What’s the cyber smoke gameplay about? Can you turn certain characters into cyber ones ?
Right now it’s a skin that has been data mined. You can add it in using mods. There is a robot ninja that you fight in story that has smoke’s classic MK3 moveset. However that character is not playable without using mods.

I really like the roster, and they can’t please everybody, but I think we can all agree some of these kameos should have been main characters
