I went into a shop and tried a few different sizes on and was wearing them around for a bit and the salesman said I can't do that. So I said ok, I'll take my business some where else.
Very useful video, thanks a loat. I recevied a MX helmet as a birthday gift and I was worried hat the helmet is small for me - it was a little difficult to put it on and I felt pressure over my cheeks, so I thought it is small for me. Don't laugh, its the first helmet ever in my life...So I started to look over the Internet about some info and I found this video. Now I'm calm and happy for having the best helmet size for me. So mom, thanks for the gift :) And thank you guys for this useful video
There are size and shape differences between all brands, and even between models within same brands. You will probably need to try on a series of helmets to know which is the best. Also there are some options within a helmet to fine tune it to your head. Most brands have interchangable cheek pads and top liners where you can mix and match to get the right combo for you. Best is to call us, and we can explain this much better than we can here.
Goods tips. I wear a balaclava in the winter so I have a winter helmet one size larger, it's still a snug fit but also I don't want to distort the fit of my smaller one.
One of the best movies out there, helped me allot to double-check. People at the store gave me a good advice ... Bought a Shoei Fr 1100 Hadron 2 size L.
That is a also good recommendation if the cheekpads are removeable in the helmet you are trying on. Ask the shop that you are tryin it on at if it is ok to remove them. Often times people pay too much attention to how tight the cheek pads are, and forget to think about how the crown of the helmet feels. Thanks for your input.
thanks for this, you just made my size decision better. my last helmet was a large and bobbled on my head at speed, next helmet will a medium for sure... Thanks
I measured 59 which should be a large but every large I tried on felt very tight and uncomfortable like a headache. Some of which I couldn't even get on my head! The XLs are much more comfortable but I fear have too much play. Is there no size for me!?
i got a L "new rider" and i realy needed a M but i am so afraid to buy from e-bay because like you siad most have diff shapes.. but the L is not going to help much if i take a spill you guys should do a online store i would fell ok to buy from you guys!
JayzBeerz - thats not very good service. We HIGHLY encourage people to wear a helmet for 5-10 minutes so you can to see how it fits. Putting it on for a few moments won't give you an accurate idea of how a helmet fits over a long period. Too bad you don't live in Phoenix as we would make sure you have a good fit.

Yes - you want a good snug fit around the cheeks to keep the wind out, and the helmet stable at speed.
