Those strange shapes on the ground floor of the workshop are moulds, made from plaster of Paris. They were used to make hollow ware like teapots, vases and coffee pots, by pouring liquid clay into the mould , then tipping out after a few minutes. This leaves a thin shell of clay inside, which shrinks away as it dries. The mould is in two halves, split to release the pot.

Over 2000 bottle kilns in the hey day. Now less than 100 left. You should visit them all. Keep you busy for a bit

What an amazing historical building. I'm surprised that they aren't listed especially the chimneys, but be safe xx

They were listed when I worked at Portmerion Potteries who own them and the Falcon works originally W Goss used to make a sort of pottery called cream wear.@@RAZORTWISTEDEXPLORINGOFFICIAL

The fire holes all around the outside of the kiln would get the ware inside up to a temperature of at least 1000C. Continously firing for about 3 days, using local long flame coal.

    They're Kilns, not 'Chimneys'.
