I went there in the late 80s as a VIP guest (basically free drinks and AAA)at the Hitman and Her live broadcast, such a shame to see it like that

I worked there for a few years as a bar supervisor and cellar man. Many memories of drinking after time and fights etc and the odd romantic liaison 😉. Funny customers , drunk idiots being launched out the fire exits and we had a cigarette machine too. Sold some proper cheap piss on student nights too.

It was called the Moonrakers from opening for years until the name change. Used to go once a week ...it was my mates local. Quite innovative back in the 80s... Thursday night was usually horror video night. Huge slop down the side to the car park that nobody dare use in the winter.

I worked in there about fifteen years ago and the cellar has a ghost in it ,in the morning about 10am you can hear barrels moving and some one whistling and I was down there on my own the landlord was out and I was changing the boiler ,the landlord at the time told me when he got back he had heard it a lot

Just to add, my Dad had a Citroen Safari when I was a kid - it was superb and had hydraulic suspension that could be raised. 😂

@32 mins you say it might be a decorating place. That's the first floor of the main building and used to be bedrooms for residential kids at the younger end (I used to go there). There was walls and doors inbetween them all. The biggers spaces were a dining room and room with TV / sofas etc. That 'unit' was only for younger kids, when you got older you went across to the other side of West Lane where there was some other residential units but they've been flattened since then.
