I think it's used by artists to draw on top of an existing drawing without altering the original. I found stencil film (and tracing paper, a similar product) at an art supply store.
It should depend on how far away you are placing the paper. If doubling up on the paper doesn't solve the issue, maybe placing the paper further from the source (led strip).
Looks to be Darice, Studio 71 Stencil film. I want to say it doesn't matter which brand as they are all probably very similar. TODBOT: Great idea! I've been wonder what diffuser to use on my LED strips. Thanks!
never realise that stencil can be light diffuser! thanks!!
Just what I was looking for. Way better than wax paper.

Just wondering if I could put this in my printer to print around some text to effectively create glowing text...
I’m not sure if this film can be put through a printer. But you can run transparency film through your printer and put that behind this stencil film.
@@todbot Ah great stuff! That's what I'll do in that case - thanks!
Are those the Mini Skinny NeoPixels?
Won't stencils contribute to hotspots though??

Maybe this will work over a led string blade lightsaber rather than packing foam lol
I'm just doing that same thing xd But I couldn't find a material that gave me good results so that the LEDs wouldn't be noticeable as dots.
what brand is this
I don't recall a specific brand. It was 14mil Mylar sheet though. This looks like an equivalent amzn.com/B00BHI1MKQ?tag=todbotblog-20
