  • I mostly use PCs, but I like Macintosh too. I have mostly vintage stuff I've collected over the years, including an original iMac, a PowerMac 8100, a Plus, and an LC.

    Nice collection! What I've always noticed is that since the early 90's Apple computer products look much cooler than PC products in my opinion.

    That's a great collection of Mac stuff. I really need to set mine up again, most of the mac stuff I have is in the barn. I have what must have been among the first macs with an inbuilt CD drive, you have to use this CD caddy to operate it.
    I saw one of the Imacs at the thrift shop but didn't get it cause it didn't have the keyboard and I didn't know if I could find one.
    One time I used an LC power supply chassis to make a tube amplifier with! I installed it in a GE solid state console stereo.

    Absolutely fascinating how my phone had MORE computing power than All that stuff. Fascinating indeed. Mostly a fan of stereo stuff, but this stuff is pretty interesting too. Cheers from Cleveland VWestlife

      What’s even more amazing is that each and every computer initially costed $1800-$3000 in a time where things didn’t cost much.

    I wish I still had my old computers, but when young I had a fascination of switching the 240v switch to 120v for a lovely indoor firework display.

    • @ethan043
      @ethan043 8 років тому

      +Richard Mewes When I got my first computer at 11, it was a Dell Optiplex E521 I think and I didn't know what the red 120-240 switch did so I switched it to 240 and it stopped working and I wondered why. I flipped the switch back and rebooted it and it still worked fine after that.

    • @Richiecandylover
      @Richiecandylover 8 років тому

      +MrEthan520 Anonymous Very lucky, we run on the 240v here in the UK so when the computer expects 120v but you give it double there would be one large bang, smoke and the PSU would of been fried

    • @ethan043
      @ethan043 8 років тому

      +Richard Mewes Yeah, I'm glad I didn't live anywhere that used 240 volts!

    • @Richiecandylover
      @Richiecandylover 8 років тому

      240V is pretty safe here in the UK, even the plugs have built in fuse, the only thing you don't do is switch the power rating to the American power option.

    • @armanelgtron4533
      @armanelgtron4533 7 років тому +1

      Must be why some new (and maybe even some old) power supplys don't have voltage switches; it's auto-detect.

  • @vwestlife

    It's just a bunch of old, simple shareware games, almost all programmed only in black & white. The only really notable one is "Phrase Craze," which is a clone of Wheel of Fortune. It has really nice sound effects.

  • @AstonGryffynn
    @AstonGryffynn 14 років тому

    Wow, you have a whole library of computers there, though, I can't talk to much either. Too bad they need a lot of time to get back to work. Seeing them working would be pretty cool.
    And, darn it, Taylor Swift on your radio, that freaked me out! XD

    I have MacWrite, MacPaint, etc., and some classic games on floppies for the Plus. The LC has an old version of Microsoft Word & Excel on its hard drive.

    I have...9? 10? Macs.
    Performa 630CD, IIsi, SE, SE/30, PowerBook 180, Blue and White G3, G4 MDD (FW 800), G5 2.3GHz dual processor, and now a Quadra 950!

    • @Halterung01
      @Halterung01 7 років тому

      Nice. I sadly threw out a lot of old macs as I needed to free up space and nobody wanted them in the ads.
      The only Macs I kept are: my beloved G4 Sawtooth with 1GHz Sonnet Encore CPU, a PowerMac G3 Desktop and a Macintosh SE that doesn't have a working hard drive.
      But I didn't throw out too much. A broken 8100/80, a 7100/66 and a totally dead iMac G3 Blueberry.

  • @ForgetfulCollector

    @Ben333bacc No, I know what you're talking about, but that isn't it. A serial port adapter is 25-pin to 9-pin. A Mac monitor adapter is normal 15-pin (joystick type) to compact 15-pin (VGA type).

    holy crap, this and your Apple 2 Collection have the same ammount of views!

  • @vwestlife
    @vwestlife  15 років тому

    Probably from a torrent. Just look up "mac os9 torrent" and you'll find some. You can get the updates free from Apple's site, though, so if you have OS 9.0 you can update it to 9.1 and then 9.2.

  • @vwestlife
    @vwestlife  11 років тому

    Yes, it will work with a G3. It converts the Mac's large 15 pin monitor port to the smaller "HD15" connector used by standard VGA monitors. There's one on eBay right now, item number 151119720240

    Ah, $2 Macs. I miss the junk guys at the old KGP shows down in Edison. Used to buy the 5 show passes with friends and go in that extra hour early to get the good stuff before it was picked clean. Most of the junk guys knew us after awhile and let us behind the counter to freely root through the piles. The advent of computer recycling and going green killed that off. The internet's cheap pricing on new parts killed the rest of the show off.

    I would love to resurrect my old Mac SE. The 20MB SCSI hard disk died in 1999, although I don't think a head crash occurred. Last time I powered it up a few years ago there was no raster (analog board). I had a ton of Hypercard stacks I made on that which would be great fun to see again.
