Fixing ATV Blown Fuses, Intermittent Short CIrcuits, No Lights or Power to Starter!

- Wiring problems, short circuits, and blown fuses are common as an ATV ages. Connectors break, lamp sockets crack, and some components fail, finding short circuits efficiently gets an ATV back to the trail quickly and should prevent dead batteries and possible fire hazards. One just needs a simple automotive bulb to perform these tests.
Harvey you are a genius mine is not fixed but you are a big help thank you so much i just wish you were alot closer to florida because would make plenty of cash off of me keeping my grandsons rolling .

Good trouble shooting . But i have a question . I was looking at some tires . 19x7 -8 and 25 x 10 - 12 . I know tires do not always measure the same as labeled . Just wondering if you have very many in those sizes . And if so , Would you measure the Height of them . I know different brands may be a little different size and rim size matters . But just looking for a general height of those size tires . Then i will know if i want to get those sizes to put on one of my Sears Suburbans . Not sure what exact ones i will get , but just wondering average height of those sizes.I want to go a little bigger than the stock ones i have on it now. Thanks.
Hey Terri!!! I have a ss16 out back and other tractors... I will have to go out and look at them and see what sizes I have... I was surprised that 2 cents worth of cheap plastic ruined the electrical characteristics on that atv.... Thanks for Ur thoughts, encouragement, watching, and commenting!!!
@@HarveySpooner atv tires is what i was referring to . . The tractor original size is prob either 23 x 10.50 - 12 , or 23 x 9.50 - 12 on back , and 16 x 6.5 - 8 . I am thinking of ordering some tires online , but was wondering their height so i could be sure they would fit

I got the 4 wheel 125cc like you .When I replace the new battery. The fuse 10m is dead and I put another one fuse is still dead . Can you have me please or I order wrong size batteries.

You have clued me in to the problem on my newly aquired tao tao. I don't understand why the wire colors change going through the connectors on these lil rice rockets

I got a coolster 125cc that won't activate the starter with the push button or key. However, it blows the fuse when the key is turned to the off position. Any ideas?

Hey Harvey, I really need help on my Bayou KLF 300C 4x4…keeps blowing main fuse one key is turned to the on position. I read a few articles online and decided to unplug everything and plug them back. No matter the order, still blows fuse when I get to key switch. Right now, I have everything unplugged and I mean every single thing including lights, I also cut ignition key wires and installed a on/off switch new from autozone for testing purposes. My wiring looks like this now: Positive from battery goes to fuse and then to on/off switch newly installed, and Negative from battery goes to chassis (which’s works by light test to engine frame) and then through a smaller black/yellow and then connected to brown goes up to the same on/off and got on in place of key 🔑. Guess what, as soon as I flip that switch to on it still blows fuse.
I have all wire bundles opened up and man they look new and no signs of wear. I’m perplexed! Help please, thanks!!
Note: Used a few good battery’s and used fuses from 5am to 30amo-the right one for this machine-and same thing happens.

Hello Harvey could you tell me what you soak your carb parts in to clean also what brand gaskets for honda atv and carb kits for honda carbs I have a 86 honda fortrax 250 . Have you ever taken apart the honda ignition switch to cut a new key?

When The Wires Wanna Melt Or Get Hot It Means That The Connections That Are Associated With The Melting Wires Are Weak Or There Is A Break On The Wire Causing The Current Flow To Not Be Able To Pass All The Way Through Therefore Causing Resistance And Overcharging. So Check Your Wire Connections And That All Your Wires Aren't Damaged Also Check For Any Shorts In The Circuit Meaning Any Positive (Hot Wires Or Any Wires Connected To Or In Contact With The Positive Terminal) Coming In Contact With The Common Ground (Anything Connected To Or In Contact With The Negative Terminal)
Having the same problem what’s the proper way to bypass can I connect the two wires together? Or do I have to put something in between the two wires? Thanks
You Can Bypass The Fuse By Connecting The Wires That The Fuses Were Connected To On Each End (Hotwiring) Or Using A Wire Or Bullet Connector On Each Side And Connecting Them That Way. But WARNING Removing The Fuse And Bypassing It Is Removing A Safety Feature That Warms You And Avoids The Whole Entire Wire Harness From Melting Burning Or Damaging Other Components By Popping And Disconnecting The Positive Wire Therefore Shutting Off The Engine. The Fuse Pops When There Is Too Much Current Being Drawn From A Component That Will Overheat It Or Cause It To Blow But Also Pops When There Is A Short In The Circuit Meaning When The Positive (Hot) Wire Comes In Contact With Any Ground On The Bike Or In Other Words Anything Connected To The Negative Terminal

Hey MM, the F15AL250V is a fast blow fuse, I am not sure about the 15a 32volt model.... Make sure that U use a fast blow fuse.... Thanks for asking, watching, and commenting!!!

So basically, it was the light bulbs that caused a short. That y the bike wasnt sending power to the starter etc. Am i right. Cz ur not really clear on what the issue is. Cz u jumping from 1 thing tobthe other.
