I worked for TWA for 23 years and at JFK Hangar 12 for over 5 of those years! This made me cry! Best years of my life, best jobs I ever had! I miss TWA every day.
THis video makes me almost ready to cry out loud. As someone who lives in St. Louis, I remember as a little kid going out to the airport and watching scenes like this...the JFK scene with TWA I only could've dreamed of seeing. There will never be another airline like TWA again.
I have this saved as a favorite so I can come back and watch it from time to time. My father was the Director of Operations for TWA at JFK. I have so many memories of flying TWA for vacations. He passed in October of 2017, just a week after his birthday, and watching this video now brings me straight to tears and bawling honestly. A mix of happy and sorrow for what’s lost. My father was a remarkable man and I’ll miss him until the day I die.
I have such fond memories of TWA. It was my preferred airline and I flew it for over a dozen years between LAX and JFK. I took my very first trip to Europe on TWA, and my first (and only) time on a 747SP was a TWA flight from Rome to Boston. I thought Saarinen's Terminal 5 at JFK was one of the best pieces of airport architecture ever made; inside it you couldn't help but want to fly. What a beautiful and moving tribute to a bygone time and to truly one of the greatest airlines in the world.
I know the feeling I only ever had one flight experience and my first ever and last time flying on U.S Airways and on a Boeing 737-300 and this happened in September of 2010, the greatest year of my entire life. I didn’t know how much I would love my first class experience on that special U.S Airways Boeing 737 but I wish I did because then I would’ve met those pilots whom I love with all my heart as they are a missing part of my heart and these past 14 years I’ve been trying to find them because I love them and their a part of my heart as is the whole airline which is now known as American Airlines. I keep them in my thoughts and prayers because I love them etc etc. I don’t ever want anything bad to happen to them or to their main family because I love them. Yes my first time ever flying on a jet was first class and my very first time and last time experiencing first class💞☮️🇺🇸✈️💗💞
I flew TWA out of Terminal 5 (then called the "TWA Flight Center") to Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Paris. In the 1960's, the terminal represented the space age future - so different from the boxy utilitarian airports of the 1950's. The red-carpeted concrete tubes opened into the glass-walled satellites. You felt like you could touch the jet planes, shining on the tarmac. The hotel which is taking over the building has said they will park a vintage airliner in TWA livery at the big south-facing window. I hope they come through on that. Thanks for posting this video- brings back the good times.
This brings back wonderful memories of my first overseas trip--TWA to Spain in spring 1994. I flew from IND to JFK on a TWA DC-9, then connected at JFK T5 to my overnight 747 to MAD. I still remember vividly the terminal's unique architecture and the thrill of preparing to board the 747 from a gate in Flight Wing 1, the guitar shaped concourse at T5.
I am a former TWA F/A , hired in 1990 and I left in 1992. This video, and the choice of song really touched me, I miss you and will always love you TWA! Thank you for some of the best moments of my life TWA. Skyliner747-beautiful job! Thanks so much!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING THIS skyliner747!!!!!!!!! cannot thank you enough. this video is literally an exact replica of how i spent so many summer days in my teenage years in that classic TWA terminal. Awesome!!
This is such a great video! I will never ever forget my trip on TWA through JFK in October 1989. DTW-JFK-AMS-HAM and return. My first and only trips on the L1011 and 727-100 series. The fall of some of our great airlines is such a tragedy.
TWA 4 EVER ! I'm 24 now, my dad used to work for TWA in MADRID, Spain. Since I was a kid, I wanted to be a TWA Flight Attendant, I have lots of TWA stuff but it's very hard to find videos like this one. Thank you for sharing it. Waiting for more! Big hugh for TWA family from Spain!
And my father also used to fly there He's been retired now for many years now. Retired captain started on the Connie constellation than the 707-727 L1011 And then retired on the 747.
I catered TWA flights out of FLL and MIA in the early 90's. Had the privilege to work with the MIA ramp crew. What a great bunch of guys! They loved their airline!
I was 20yrs old, a young gay man from Bakersfield. Thought L.A. and San Francisco were the whole wide world. Trans World Airlines saved my life, and taught me so much! Thank you TWA. I love you! JFK F/A 1990-1992 .
Great video thanks for sharing! My only L1011 flights were with TWA in 1989. I was fortunate to connect through JFK in the TWA terminal on the way to Amsterdam and Hamburg. I wont get that chance again.
TWA was a golbal company that represented the US in the best of ways (well.. until Carl Ican!!). From paper uniforms inthe 60's, 747 Upper Deck lounges, a bevy of beauties serving the hollywood elite and all those LONG layovers... Long live the memories of a great American Icon of the Skies, TWA!!
As soon as faith hill came on the tears came that’s a fitting song to the golden airline TWA. That was my grandma’s favorite airline. Big comfy seats full refreshments at no cost, everything was great back then. Miss it.
Great video and brings back a lot of happy memories. Took TWA many times to Europe on their Getaway tours. The best airline ever. Spent a lot of time in the JFK Terminal, I can see the cafe where we always got a snack if we were boarding a later evening flight. Flying is not the same today and I really don't care if I ever get on another plane.
Skyliner747 Everytime Every time I've come back to your video it takes me right back to the TWA that was the envy of the industry not only for what it had achieved but for its history. No need to apologize for the "rain drops" I see them as tears from heaven of what once was, together with Pan Am without a doubt we are the two greatest Airlines in United States History before the industry became Greyhound! I wish I was going back to MCI/Breech Academy tomorrow for recurrent training in a minute!
my favorite airline my favorite airport my favorite city. this video shows class. we have fallen way down the tubes with current airlines many wonderful times and flights i had taken on twa. i don't fly anymore thank god thank you for your work
Great video! I only flew on TWA once (SJU to JFK) so I had the chance to see the beautiful JFK TWA terminal. Most of the great airlines are gone now. :(
@Skyliner747 Great Job, wonderful memories! Breech Academy in MCI, my base JFK terminal # 5 & later we added "The Symphony" # 6 when PA & NA merged good all Hangar 12 and the unity we all felt to be a part of a great airline, TWA nothing but the best!
Nice video! Those 747s are just gorgeous aircraft.Especially those 100s.lots of history on those birds, and there are only a handfull of them left today.Found a few of these former TWA ladies are still going strong with the Iran Air Force today.I only got around to flying KLM's 747s a few times, but I would have loved to have flown these classics....
Great video. What a shame such an amazing airline is history. I have to say though, it's the first time I've ever seen a jetway hooked up to the right side of the plane. Thanks for the memories!
i also live in STL and i to watched TWA take off and land in the LAMBERT HUB the airport has lost its soul and just doesn't feel the same as when TWA was there dominating the sky's its a sad feeling flying out of STL without TWA to take you where you wanted to go and always on time LONG LIVE TWA The Worlds Airline
Do you keep in touch with Kaye Chandler? She has lots of great things posted, I never knew her well, she was one of the more seniors in international when I came onboard! Again, about the audio, was it copyright or AA objecting at the content? Any way keep up the great work, memories most be preserved, good airlines never die and TWA & PanAm will always be the premier international carriers of the US for all times, when travel was travel, not cattle runs!
Good Video. Keep the history running, one of the backbones TWA was for american/intentional avation, that we may sometimes take for granted. BTW: what is this song called? Matches it perfectly
All these L1011's and 727's seemed so common back then as if they whould stay forever... I miss those threeholers and regret that I did not ride them more often.
n93108 was the 38th 747 made first flight was on19/04/1970 was also painted in the new twa colours One of the Best Color Schemes ever was Decomissioned in 98 scrapped at Tucson Arizona 2002
Man, the airports looked better with 727s and L-1011s ..... more diversity! Nowadays is just throwing blended winglets onto everything. (i know it saves fuel consumption) but in my opinion they only look good on the 737s. More airline diversity too.... Tired of these damn mergers! I liked the paint schemes of airlines in the 80s and 90s.
And oh those great jingles, perhaps the best one being "You're gonna like us TWA." In the mid 80's that had another great one "Leading the Way TWA." Another legacy carrier no more, sad.
Hi FELLOW TWA'ers.... As an X-TWA employee (LAX), here is a link to a yahoo groups website dedicated to the employees of TWA, live talk, comments, photo's, emails, etc. ENJOY. It's 100% free. Just keep in touch and share photo's, video's and stories.Dave

The best part of this video is the comment section. Lot’s of stories behind this airline and terminal there. Thanks for sharing.

I was born in July 1992, can you imagine. I would've loved to see the golden days of aviation...
Know the feeling, 1991 here.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING THIS skyliner747!!!!!!!!! cannot thank you enough. this video is literally an exact replica of how i spent so many summer days in my teenage years in that classic TWA terminal. Awesome!!
I don't even like Nickelback (or Faith Hill for that matter), yet the songs you chose for this video made it even more beautiful.
TWA: Gone but never forgotten because TWA will live forever in the hearts of former employees and their families..

Yes; you are correct on this...My 1st flight on a commercial airline, was on a 707 TWA in 1979 when I joined the Army. PHX to PHIL.
Don't watch this without a box of tissues close by.
+Barb Kaiser Are you relate to TWA Flight Attendant Kevin Kaiser?
THE DAYS WHEN YOU WERE ABLE TO JUST GO TO THE AIRPORT AND WATCH THE PLANES..CRYING RIGHT NOW..
The video that helped get me into being an air travel nerd!
Great video. I'm glad I got to fly out of there. Beautiful.

RIP TWA and we thank you!!
TWA was a class act!

schnellguy Amen.
I got to fly TWA to New York City back in the late eighties. The TWA terminal building at JFK reminds me of the Flinstones. Don't ask me why. Haha!
Loved that terminal and those beautiful BIG airplanes! TW
The two songs in this video are:
1. Nickelback - Far Away
2. Faith Hill - There You'll Be
Nice job, Sky.

I was offered tickets by my friend for flight 800. I declined as I had a meeting that day
Oh my God, this is amazing! I wasn’t alive during this time, but I’m glad that this terminal got a second life!

KJFK TWA commissary, 1993. It was a pleasure keeping the jets clean, and their bellies full of tasty food.
This video means alot to me. I made my 1st flight ever in july 1991 out of JFK on a TWA L1011. Now I'm a pilot. Damn good job.
Wonderful video. Thank you for posting it.

I just realized that this was in the same month as the Flight 843 incident! Really cool! Do you happen to know if it was Before or After?
b747dude the TW843 incident happened on July 30th which was a hot, sunny day with clear blue skies... so I guess these videos were shot before.
I love you TWA! I miss you so much....
Feels as if I am back at work again.
Oh, it's a big pretty white plane with a red stripes, curtains at the windows, wheels, and it just looks like a big Tylenol.
worked at JFK in hangar love it
I always used to enjoy TWA tea!
n93108 was the 38th 747 made first flight was on19/04/1970
was also painted in the new twa colours
One of the Best Color Schemes ever
was Decomissioned in 98
scrapped at Tucson Arizona 2002
Believe it or not it's still standing it's taking quite a bit apart but it's still there
TWA were a wonderful airline - I must have flown them between LAX and LHR at least a hundred times in the late 1980's
Lol.....Crew Scheduling at hangar 12. The company red "school bus" ride to terminal #5 & #6 for our assigned flights. What memories???
grazie!!!!
did you happen to see N93119?
Where is this international airport located? Is it the JFK or John F. Kennedy International Airport?
I would agree with you as I spent 33years with them and stayed til the end.
twa was a great airline will forever be a great airline although twa is gone it will live in the hearts of former employees and their families
My GOD. Has it been since 1992 since I've heard this Nickelback song??
nice video, nice memories.
How were the immigration/customs done in that terminal back then?
THAT IS SOOOOOO COOL! amazing memories of a time that is long gone!
I always think of flight 800 when i see the 747, its sad and haunting
Man, the airports looked better with 727s and L-1011s ..... more diversity! Nowadays is just throwing blended winglets onto everything. great footage
wunderbar and tissues yes
That right VIVA TWA for ever.
The 1st song is called FAR AWAY by NICKELBACK
The 2nd song is by FAITH HILL i dont remember the name of the song though.
Music ruined it for me. Still a great video though!
You can still do this in small airports in Australia and New Zealand
And oh those great jingles, perhaps the best one being "You're gonna like us TWA." In the mid 80's that had another great one "Leading the Way TWA." Another legacy carrier no more, sad.
They're talking about turning the former terminal into a luxury hotel
Wait why was the 747 jetway at the right of the airplane they are only at the left

Who is this music by?
No airline will ever match the professionalism and family ties as TWA did/does. Working at Hgr 12 and Term from 87-98 {Then i went to the Motherland at MCI for job security LOl} It was actually fun going to work and the interaction with the Flight and Cabin crews, plus you never knew who you would rub shoulders with on a last minute gate call.
Now another chapter is closing on TWA as MCI is shuddered NYC here we come, won't match what TWA was that's for sure!!! Just a job now.
May I ask why we’re playing Nickleback as the backdrop theme music Lolol 😂😂
I loved twa
Why did TWA go out of business ?
@Stunts4all HOLY SHIT!!!! YOU WERE ?!?!?!?!
do you know whatever happened to N93108?
I know it's late, but 17108 (N93108) was scrapped
"No other job has felt like I belonged", wow that is how I feel and have felt since TWA was bought by American and I got laid off. I worked EWR, met inbounds and then baggage service. I even miss the irates.
