    Every time I return or watch one of the older videos of Rob this intro stays with me.
    It was the best in this channel. It fits so nicely the format of Rob videos. Hope he bring it back at somepoint...

    This is a remarkably well-researched and insightful video. Probably the best on the subject of Carol Danvers out there so far. One nit-pick: Ms. should be pronounced "mizz," with a "Z." This indicates that the marital status of the woman is irrelevant. Mrs = married, Miss = single, Ms. = not telling and you shouldn't care.

    There was a sense that they did not really know what to do with Ms. Marvel, and that was reflected in every comic she was in. It like they said "We need a female super hero" and kinda did it like Stan Lee, Steve Ditko and Jack Kirby came up with characters like the Fantastic Four. A funny thing about the tendency of attempts and being progressive, I remember when John Byrne dedicated an entire issue of Fantastic Four to Sue renaming herself "Invisible Woman." It had the title "Childhood's End" on the cover and I forgot who she fought but remember her doing an interview where the reporter asked the question that was a joke in the comic community, how she felt being the weakest of the Fantastic Four. (And this was try, until John Bryne Invisible Girl had about the status as Aquaman. She was the "girl who could turn invisible and protect the stronger men when she needed to." ) Sue then proceeded to create a invisible platform that took the reporter off the ground and almost to the ceiling (I think) and smirked asking him what he meant by "weaker member." It was around this era that her "force field" change to her being able to project solid invisible forms that pretty much made her tough as crap. The goes right into that "dropping the ball" stuff Marvel did when Sue change to Malice and beat the living hell out of the rest of the FF. The problem here was it was like saying "Strong confident women are defined as "b****hes." I forgot what silly reason Sue turned to Malice but was so glad they dropped that like a bad habit. There are so many instances where they did the, with She Hulk, Spider-girl - almost every version, Rogue, Storm, Jean Grey. The sad thing is that in many ways they still do it today.

    • @Icecypher
      @Icecypher 9 років тому +1

      Umar Soaries
      In that issue, Sue fought Franklin. He had grown up to adulthood but he realized his mind and memories, which should be full of experiences, were rather empty. The Fantastic Four members were being knocked out by his probes to learn who he was. So the title applied to both Sue and Franklin.

    • @wokeaf1242
      @wokeaf1242 9 років тому +1

      César Hernández-Meraz
      No, this was in the John Byrne era when Franklin was still "the baby that could destroy the world" which was an actual plot device in more than one FF story back then. I think Malice was a reaction to Dark Pheonix, because it happened to Scarlet Which as well. (Then again, she was the daughter of a terrorist control freak and married a robot, mental stability was never Wanda's strong suit.) Malice was all spikes and black leather and it took Reed the entire issue to figure out it was Sue. But Franklin was still a baby back then.

    • @Icecypher
      @Icecypher 9 років тому +2

      Umar Soaries
      The issue with the interview with all of the attacks on Sue as the weakest character who has to be rescued all the time is when Franklin (using his powers without realizing it) grows up into a full adult with incomplete experiences. Sue saves the day and Franklin reverts to a kid, but not without fixing Ben's appearance, which had gone back to how he first looked as The Thing.
      The Malice issues were during Secret Wars II. Psycho Man's Hate Monger had New York in such a state that there was definitely no time for Sue/Malice to give interviews.

    • @wokeaf1242
      @wokeaf1242 9 років тому +2

      César Hernández-Meraz
      I always felt Marvel held on to the Thing appearance for way too long. If Sue, Johnny and Reed could turn their powers off and on why didn't they simply let Ben switch back and forth? It would have made more sense than some of the stuff they came up with over the years.

    • @Icecypher
      @Icecypher 9 років тому +4

      I guess they wanted to keep the angst, since having him switch back and forth would have all the benefits without the bad things.
      But they can keep that status quo for as long as they want (or revert to it) since they cme up with the explanation that no cure would work because Ben's subconscious feared going back to human would ruin his relationship with Alicia.

    • @CaptainMarvelCulture
      @CaptainMarvelCulture 9 років тому

      Mar-Vell was Marvel Comics' first Captain Marvel, a captain in the Kree space navy. He was killed off in 1982 in "The Death of Captain Marvel" graphic novel. The name of Captain Marvel was subsequently taken by several different characters, and the Secret Invasion version was a Skrull genetically altered to think he was Captain Marvel.

    recently Nicole Perlman (the screenwriter of Captain Marvel movie) said that they gonna change the origin of Carol's powers due because and quote "her origin story is very similar to Green Lantern, and obviously is not what we want to do. There's a lot of reinvention that needs to happen"

    DC may very well have created Wonder Woman around 20 years before Carol Danvers but it was because over at DC the artist and his wife was into bondage and swapping sexual partners with others ( ie swinging ) so top marks for being first but I`d call WW creation more sinister in nature even though she stands for girl power and feminism. The mad world of comics eh :) keep up the great work Rob

    I don't care about the gender or race crap. Consumers like who they can relate to. If certain genders or races aren't getting the limelight it is because their characters aren't popular. If Falcon comics sold the highest, there would be more Anthony Mackie (my hero) in the movies. It's called business. And I'm hispanic and black, but I'm also logical and know business.

    Reading the 2012 series with her new name - and look - I guess it worked for the crowd back then. But really disappointed in this new her. Not really enjoying the sudden testosterone boost they gave her. Almost as if writers felt readers didn't take Carol seriously before this. Read the first issue, turned me right off to a character that was once every bit as tough as she was feminine. Gving her those same 'toxic masculinity' traits that are decried in men sends a very wrong message to a rapidly declining country where our adversaries are already smelling blood in the water. And if this is to be the new standard from here on out it may not be worth saving.
