Well everyone has they’re opinions and I respect that, but trashing it because it’s not a wrangler or because it’s made in Italy, if it wasn’t for Fiat, Chrysler probably wouldn’t be a brand. I’m thankful for the Renegade it’s a really capable and affordable compact SUV.

I trashed the vehicle here in the comments because the car IS TRASH. I leased a 2015 jeep renegade latitude. The problems I had with it starting at 7,000 miles were ridiculous and never happened to me on cars that I drove for 120k and btw, most people that I have spoken to online have said this car is a piece of shit as well. If you don't have any problems with this vehicle then you are very lucky. I had this thing at the dealership 8 times for malfunctions and parts wear (wheel bearing at 22k miles!) over the course of the last 14 months that I had it. I got fed up and finally turned the car in EARLY by 5 months because I did not want to have the car past the warranty period because I didnt want to pay out of my own pocket for new problems. I had no problem paying off the last 5 payments to have peace of mind. 39 month 36k miles lease and I turned it in with 29k miles. GOOD RIDDANCE!

the gas mileage sucks balls. I had one. The transmission is a 9 speed transmisison which never really feels comfortable and it's always busy looking for a gear. It has absolutely no torque off the line, which is important for an off road vehicle. The engine and the tranny reminds me of riding my old 2 stroke dirt bike when I was a kid, you always had to keep the engine " on the pipe" so to speak . Really weird car and let us n ot forget that this car is based on anothe fiat model which is another delicate piece of garbage , the fiat 500x. This is not even a borderline off road vehicle. If you take it off road enough you'll find out.

I test drove one back in 2015 to use as a city car and it was the worst vehicle I test drove. It handled poorly on road I could see the interior vibrate at idle and the engine sounded like an old diesel. Maybe it was just that engine option but I’d never recommend buying one and it scared me away from looking at anything else at Jeep.

I bought my 2018 Renegade Sport, 1.4 turbo and 6 speed manual in September of 2018. The only thing I have done so far is regularly scheduled maintenance, 1 set of tires. Very happy with it's performance and reliability. Currently at 52, 225 miles. Would not worry about taking it anywhere. Nothing loose or falling off and no squeaks or rattles. Ride is somewhat harsh on rough roads, but it is a Jeep.

for a year I have owned a renegade trailhawk in Mojave sand and always get complimented on the color. I love this little jeep, its small and nimble, the turn radius is crazy small. As far as reliability we had a problem with a cupeling for the rear end but the dealership replaced the whole unit after trying to fix it twice. those early days of ownership were not fun but it hasn't been in the shop since then. I got the comfort package with electric driver seat, dual climate, remote start and I would definitely recommend this package. This is my wife's daily driver but I drive it any chance I get. Here are the problems I've had in the order I got them in. 1) Ignition could 1 failure, causing my car to jump often, 2) major engine leakage causing my car to STOP in the middle of the road often, they put in a BRAND NEW engine. 3) Radiator fan issue, causing my car to over heat and getting my car towed. Issue 4) check engine light has come on, car has a torque issue and can barley drive. Keep in mind this car was purchased as a NEW car! It only has 53,000 miles on it. Don't buy this car from any dealership especially this one. If you do, I hope you remember these words and I hope you don't live in regret. As today I would get an Altitude with the same engine. I really like it with the black 18” wheels. Also the car drives much better than the 16” wheels. It’s feels solid. So far not issues, it’s perfect when I drive it in Manhattan and easy to park, it is very spacious for the dimensions and in the snow it’s really good as well.

What else WAS there on the market that was exactly like the Renegade Trailhawk and what is there now after the thing has been discontinued in North America?
Where else am I going to get Renegade Trailhawk off-pavement capability and highway mpg? What else is out there having the Renegade Trailhawk's exterior dimensions and off-pavement capability along with it's useful interior room? What other contemporary vehicle has the same sight lines as the Renegade Trailhawk?

I don't understand why all the hate on this little Jeep? I drove my sisters Limited around while she came to visit. It wasn't bad. Was it as capable as my TRD offroad Tacoma, no. But you have to look at the target demographic. First time new buyers or first time suv buyers. It does appeal mostly to women, there for not going to be offroading much with this other than gravel, or the occasional fireroad. The awd system will get you to work and the shops safely in bad weather. It's small and nimble. Mpg was 30' s on the highway, mid 20' s in town. As far as I know she has not had any problems with it in 50k plus miles. Is it a wrangled wannabe no. But is a decent little suv.

How many Wranglers ever go off road? Most of them are mall crawlers... I got a Renegade for its good mileage and for bad weather driving in suburbia (I also have a convertible I drive in the summer, the Renegade replaced a 2005 Liberty Renegade). Do I want a Wrangler Rubicon? Sure, but it would be too expensive and use way too much gas. I didn't let my ego get in the way of a smart decision. My only regret is that the newer UConnect system is nicer (saw it in the 2018 Compass) and has some better phone integration features.
Most of those commenting that it isn't a 'real' Jeep also don't understand that Jeep can't survive selling only Wranglers, they have to appeal to different niches in the market.

This thing does it all- quick trips, easy parking, camping on the weekends. What Jeep do you drag race with? NONE- who cares if it can't win pink slips in races, Tokyo Drift?

That was my favorite color of one of my Jeeps in 1994. Jeep Cherokee Laredo. I hope the shade of the color has not changed. Also, I am looking for a 2018 and am not sure which Jeep you are demoing but what a great job you have done especially since there is little info out there on these except for voiceless walk-a-rounds.

2.4L does not have enough power to use the BLD, without a true low range, which the Renegade does not have. I had a 2.4L Cherokee for a few years and ran into this problem, so I upgraded to a Trailhawk, for this and other reasons.

I bought two 2016 trailhawk models fully loaded. One has 27,000 miles and has never had a single problem. I wish the fuel tank was a little larger and I wish the beats stereo system was a little better, but other than that they are pretty awesome and lots of fun to drive. Off road they are very maneuverable because of their size and smaller wheel base. Definitely get the Trailhawk if you plan on going off-roading and if you live in cold climates get the cold weather package with the heated leather seats! Also, there are three skidplates underneath that are very tough on the Trailhawk model and will they protect you when going over rocks or getting buried in the mud.

i have a 2017 limited. had it almost a year now. i haven't had any issues with it thus far, so far i have put close to 13k miles on it. if you are looking for a real off road car do not get a renegade. it handles fine in the snow and down some dirt or gravel roads; and it works well for pulling dirt bikes or motorcycles and hauling kayaks to the river but i wouldn't take it down a real trail. this is a fairly cheap 4x4 and is normally going to be used as a daily driver. fuel efficiency is mediocre, i average 25 to 27 MPG but that is almost twice what i had on my 2009 Jeep Wrangle JK sport. the Renegade has a lot of gimmicky features and some nice things that come standard, overall i would give it a 7/10.

At about 3:50 you say that the 4WD Low just locks it in 1st. This is not correct. I even paused the video and took my Trailhawk for a test drive to verify. It definitely shifts while in low range. I have owned mine for over 2 1/2 years and it has around 40K miles on it. The only time it has had to go to the dealer was because a local tire shop broke an air pressure sensor. A couple of months after I bought it, I drove it to Calispell Peak in Washington State ( www.dangerousroads.org/north-america/usa/8546-calispell-peak.html ) on the stock Goodyear passenger tires. It had no problems. I did decide to upgrade the tires to BFG KO2's after that trip. It does great during snow storms too.

Used to own the Trailhawk model. It's a cool little car with good mpg for 4WD, with rugged exterior and stylish interior, but I think mine got dropped on its head in the factory. A year into ownership the transmission started to slip. Acceleration can be sluggish. The front touchscreen stopped working and the cup holder lights went out.(If you buy this car make sure it's under warranty). Besides that I had fun driving this car to Colorado for the mountain views.
Little back story, this vehicle is technically an American/Italian fusion. This vehicle is manufactured in Melfi, Italy alongside the Fiat 500. Fiat bought Chrysler January 21st 2014.
If you're looking for a reliable Jeep buy an older Wrangler or Cherokee with low miles, (I used to own a 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee) or buy a Toyota 4runner. They are easy to work on, retain their resell value, and fun to mod. Currently own an 08 Toyota FJ. Happy trailing.

As much as we wanted to like the little guy, we decided to restore an old XJ instead.

@@BigBroccoli_ I think they're kind of cool looking, too. As for "going anywhere," mine will take me down MOST of the trails I've historically run, and generally do it without much fuss or drama. There are a few trails I've historically run that my Renegade has no business being on but didn't phase the TJ I used to have. I wouldn't try to get to Wheeler Lake in Colorado in it. I'd likely not do 3N10 John Bull Trail in the San Bernardino National Forest in Southern California, either.
Getting "low range" as my Renegade Trailhawk does, with a 4.8:1 first gear and 4.33:1 final drives instead of a transfer case works okay most of the time but it's not without a drawback.
I have the same 20:1 crawl ratio my dad's old Bronco II got via 2.42:1 first gear in it's automatic trans, 2.42:1 low range and 3.42:1 final drives. But he got that in reverse, too, whereas I don't. My "low range" is only low enough going forward.
But it's a small price to pay for getting around 30 mpg on long highway stretches.
I should add, too, that I wouldn't be happy with this vehicle in any other trim but the Trailhawk model with it's better ground clearance, gearing, and approach, departure, and breakover angles. But I'm getting mine dirty pretty much every weekend in getting to fly fishing or quail hunting spots, so I have a frequent use for the car's off pavement capability.
It's nice to have the on demand awd on the street, too, which all Renegades can have.

The reason the comments are bad is because the Renegade is a hoodwink. The Jeep Renegade is not a Jeep. Fiat purchased Chrysler. Fiat is junk and their cars don't sell in America anymore so they will probably be pulling out of America. Fiat cars, not the Chrysler. As a way to trick people into buying their cars they built a Fiat and put the Jeep name on it. It's a Fiat motor, Fiat transmission, Fiat chassis, and electrical. It is the SAME as the Fiat 500 but your going to pay more for it. Research the number of owners who's transmissions went out within 30,000 miles. It is INSANE!!! Research the number of owners who's motors went out within 40,000 miles! Fiat motors and trans are known for being junk. The Fiat cars are VERY hard to keep on the road cause they keep breaking down. That's why Americans do not buy them and they are going to pull the Fiat cars out of America. The Jeep Renegade is a Fiat 500! Do the math. If you have one, get rid of it before you are put in a VERY bad position. I am so tired of meeting a person who's Fiat broke down again, they are broke and the repairs are a fortune! It's so bad they are not even worth fixing and I have to tell my customer that! I have seen a number of owners cry over it. I feel so bad for them. We helped three people out with getting a good car so they could back and fourth to school or work. Every time I tell them about the Renegade they say they had no idea! Don't bring me your Renegade so I have to tell you your motor is going out or your transmission is going out and your car is junk. They will never stop breaking down. Go get a Toyota or a Honda. They both perform very well. We see them a lot in the shop and they are very well built. NEVER buy a Chrysler product!!
