When you were involved in film when there was no digital you cheered enthusiastically when digital arrived. Even then film was cheap. Processing was cheap. If you want cheap film invent a time machine and go back to the 1970s when you took your film to the chemist, paid £3.99 for developing and wait seven days for a pack of 6x4s. I'm afraid you'll have to live with expense of film.
