This was long overdue..but thank God for your acknowledgement of Denise.
So it was Denise that was the core of that innocent angel sounding soprano in the song “Praying Spirit”! That sound was sooo unique. Her and Karen were second to none!!
I love The Clark Sister's but I'm only 33 so going up Cogic of course I heard them over and over but I always thought that was Karen until now smh WoW how can the gospel not give Denise her flowers?
@@ebbiebee9759 Karen sings lead on A Praying Spirit and Denise on Count It All Joy. Denise is very audible on all their 70s albums on soprano, even on later hits like Name It Claim It, she is the soft, airy high voice.

She is apparently working on her own music now.
Denise has a very high piercing soprano, listen to her at the end on HE KEEPS ME COMPANY, and WALKING IN THE SPIRIT, both from the YOU BOUGHT THE SUNSHINE album, OMG! Beautiful! Her voice is DEFINITELY the CLARK SOUND. Her and Karen's voice are similar, but you can tell the difference.
Denise really brings together the harmony and makes it sound angelic.
Denise's soprano completes their harmonies
And it's so clear she was the missing link from the group.
No doubt she can sang like the rest of them.. Just pray for their families healing..

Denise was the only one who shared soprano with Karen when she was in the group. Very nice voice Jacky, & Dorinda shared parts of Alto and Twinkie took the lower Alto/Tenor for harmony
Toni Devine yeah and aunt jacky takes tenor when auntie Twinkie sings. Auntie Twinkie comes in first with the widest range.

I’ve been seeing so much criticism directed at her in the comments section all over UA-cam, but anyone who has listened to the early Clark Sisters albums, knows Denise’s voice adds a whole other dimension to the sister’s harmony & is a major part of the Clark Sister’s “signature sound.”

Don’t attack me for this. Her voice is a paradox. It is very light but there is so much weight to her voice at the same time. The piercingness of her soprano remind me somewhat of Fantasia and Michelle.

I don't know if Denise is still a treetop soprano, but back in the beginning she was waaay up there. Perfect pitch..velvety.. strong. She defintely added something to the original sound and harmony.

Being forced to sing, being forced to be in church 24/7, giving up your hopes and dreams and living out someone else's , not being able to be your true self...that would cause anybody to rebel. Maybe if there was a happy medium when they were growing up things might be different who knows... when I was younger I was in church all the time, in two choirs, couldn't wear pants, couldn't wear jewelry, couldn't celebrate halloween..etc ..just couldn't. I couldn't even enjoy my childhood. It makes you resent going to church.

@@chadanthonymusic82215 I dont hear going on a holiday at that point but some of these songs sound like it could fit in labelle first 2 albums as they were finding their sound. But by pressure cooking, phoenix or chameleon no way. The vocals on those albums were sick! Not saying this to minimize the Clark sisters at all because they are undeniably outstanding!

Denise wrote "Take the Persecution" lead vocals was truly in soprano range (I think her mother sung the lead). Twinkie encouraged, egged Karen on, coached her development into the vocal phenomena she is. Denise was somehow overlooked, got lost in the mix. Watch the video how Karen coached little Kierra to do runs almost at the end at counter 310. Look at Kierra now !😎❤ That's what Twinkie did with Karen. And that's what Denise needed...attention. Denise's voice was very similar to her mother's.

The missing sound piece!!!!...Love this!😊...she's the only voice of the group that the sisters can't seem to mimic when they're playing around in some of the concerts. I remember in one service when Dorinda got to Denise, she said "I can't do Denise" lol...not sure if she was joking or not ..but her voice is VERY Unique!... and powerful!!!

TrumpetSAE Denise voice is what we call in the COGIC choir “true Soprano”. She talk the way she sing. Ain’t no deep talking voice like some but stretching to sing high. I love it.
@@lexgraham2118 there was a video on UA-cam where Dorinda was taking up offering and she was mimicking the sister's voices. When she got to Denise, she said "I can't do Denise..." Look for that video...that's what I'm referring to.

I think it is nice to feature her voice, since she is somewhat the forgotten sister. However, some of the comments about the other sisters especially Jackie(skin tone etc.) is ungodly and not helpful. Instead of everyone just supporting Denise and praying for reconciliation, many are just throwing major shade.
THANK YOU! It has really bothered me so much. And the fact that so many have so many opinions when the only ones who really know the full, true story is the sisters and God. It's so sad to me. I love the Clark Sisters THEN with Denise and I still love them. For people to say they're no good without her isn't fair or true. It's just nasty and unnecessary. I appreciate your comment so much. Dr. Mattie Moss Clark had the right idea but she couldn't force Denise to stay in the group and what were the rest of them supposed to do? Stop making music because she was gone?? They still had a message to give to the world. I'd love to see them reconcile and sing together again. I think it would be amazing.

Also, on some of Twinkies solo work, She backed on some tracks where I think she goes a little higher than the range. I'm not entirely sure, but she gets up there. Also on tracks with MMC. One I think of is The Joy of the Lord.
Yes I featured some of Twinkie’s solo recordings (first 2 albums) where Denise is very audible. I will check out Joy of the Lord. I read Denise is the main soprano on Shall Be Filled from the same 1972 That’s Christ album that has the Steal Away duet with Mattie.

That C6 and Eb6 sounds like head dominated mix belt. It's not full head voice. Its a belt. Neicy got serious range bet she got a whistle register in youth.

So if my voice sounded like that why didnt she pursue her own music career. The three as they want to call them wouldn't have stopped me. I still don't understand why her son said he is just here for his aunt Twinkie. Thats just strange to me, but ok. That grand ole cogic faith help make me the person i am today.
