Oh my gosh! I just realized that I can apply your training plan to ME!! Trying to lose weight after a major operation and if I use your incremental steps approach I can make my own weight loss plan, if I aim too high in my expectations I can go back a step until I am confident. Thank you!!!
I have watched all 172 podcasts and I consider this one to be the best of the best!! My question is technology related, though. How do I print the transcript? Now that my skills are getting so much better, I find that there is so much information in here that I'm ready to use to get intentional about our training. I'm planning and videoing and yet, there are so many facets of training in here that will grow my skills and in turn, Win's. Thank you, Susan, and your wonderful staff for putting this together for us.
Hi Katherine, thank you for your lovely notes on our podcast episodes! 💗 To get the transcript, you could download the PDF we have for you on the episode page on our website. Just scroll down to under the show notes for the download link. Here's episode 172 on our website: dogsthat.com/podcast/172/
I’ve been training hop-it-up/hot zone with rug at entry to kitchen. Plan to use it for other training. Dog doing fabulous. Then after 2 weeks added her bed. She did great with both. At first. Then yesterday she suddenly seems unsure and confused about the rug. Won’t get on it. Not sure what I’ve done wrong. Should I back up, build up value to rug again, and stick to just the rug for a while? Or build value for both rug and bed and use different cues for each? Bed could be “go to spot”. My real eventual goal is to get her to reliably sit in any, all situations and environments.
Thanks! I'll do that. This morning I unfolded the rug back to its original size and she did great again. The layers and slices can be so small. Like you say, "Have patience!"
Dear Susan - thank you so much, this is again so helpful! Now a question though... how much time does this art of planning and reviewing takes you / should take? I see a big danger in getting lost in the protocolling, and every time I try it, I see indeed great improvements in my dog and my mechanics, but yet, the planning and protocolling takes me so much time that I end up protocolling only every 3rd of 5th training session... 😞 The planning, video recording, reviewing and protocolling can take up to 45min for 5-10min training... this is hardly sustainable. I'm sure you are much quicker though, otherwise it would not be possible to train 4 dogs, 2-3 times a day, and protocolling everything (and doing podcasts etc. inbetween 🙂). Do you have tips or suggestions on how to get this process more efficient alias quicker without losing quality? Thank you! Elena & Vina
Yes Elena you are correct, doing it strategically can take time. This is why, when possible, I encourage people to let me do that planning for you and join one of our online programs. However, when that isn’t possible, I can tell you that once you develop sort of a template for yourself, it does get easier as it you move along.
@@RaptorsGirl Dear Susan, thank you for the reply! Yes, I'm in Recallers so I can profit from all those resources. Yet I still have to plan the combination of games, the BB (balance breaks), use of treats, environment, and so on. And then videoing and reviewing :-) I also transfer your training structure onto out dog-sport sessions, and there of course it takes even longer since I have to figure out the 'games' and layers of training myself first - ouch! it may be just me who is too nitty-gritty, slow and detailed in doing it all... but it really takes huge amounts of time... I also tend to write quite a lot when evaluating, since there seem to be so many important aspects to consider... but probably it is just a matter of experience, as you say 🙂 Best, Elena
@@wonderingbit I had been in one or more of Susan's programs for the past 10 years. Susan does a great job encouraging you to become a "thinking dog trainer". She shares a tremendous amount of information - after all she has been doing this for a very long time. I would just like to suggest that you take advantage of all the bonuses in Recallers. Listen to whatever you have access to multiple times. Six months later you may pick up pointers that you missed the first time. I always have take aways from her presentations. - Even the "free promotional ones." Enjoy your journey.
How do I get to your beginning pod cast? My dog is great he just loves to bark at everything he's a Jack Russell/Chihuahua I have to train both because he shows behavior of both breeds. I've only trained two dogs in my life s Jack Russell and a Miniature Pinscher many years since I've done this need a refresher I've watch several of your pod casts and I love it it's just what I'm looking for

How do you teach Loose leash walking? I am a member of Recallers but because my dog pulls SOOO much, I have stopped walking him but this isn’t fair on him.

So my 11 mo GSD is very reactive with other dogs in training and it is so frustrating, then the trainer tells me to stop trying to get his attention & let him go. Every trainer has something different. I have used high value treats & toys while out and he just pulls & barks. I cant get his attention back on me for a while. Any suggestions?

Hey Team, awesome video as usual. I have a question regarding loose leash walking. My Boy has got so much better now. Thanks to you, obviously, but now he keeps adoringly staring at me while trotting along next to me. I get a sore neck just looking at him. I want him to enjoy the walk as well. So, the question is, will he eventually figure out that he can just walk next to me while watching what's going on around him?

I’d start by washing the rug if you’ve it already tried that

@@wonderingbit You have a lot of good questions Elena, that is worth doing a deeper dive maybe in Recallers about it.
