I’m glad you showed this video. I started planting my dahlias in pots in the house too early, now I have tall growth I think I should cut down and take cuttings from. I appreciate your video. I thought I might have to get a dipping hormone, but you don’t mention needing that, which is great!
Thank goodness! My dahlia broke off right at the base. It snapped right off while I was trying to move the pot inside for the winter. This is the first video I watched on propagating this plant specifically :-) thank you so much for uploading it!
I’m curious, do your dahlias grow all winter or do you just bring them to dormancy in the pots? You can also store the rhizomes over winter Glad the video has helped!
Dahlias are my favourites. I've filled gardens to the brim with just seeds taken from a previous year's dried flowers. Bulb, seed, propagation. Super thankful plants either way.
I have about 15 different dahlias that I absolutely love. I've been doing them from tubers, and I've tried unsuccessfully with stem cuttings, but your video was very well put together. Cute kid you should have him do more of the planting and make just the kids video. I have saved it and shared it with so many other people.
I noticed you posted this video in September. If you propagate that late in the season, will you still get a viable tuber for the following year? Thank you for posting this helpful video and any comments you can offer! I am hoping I am not too late this year (early July) to propagate.
Thank you for a quick yet very informative video! I will be doing this later today. Your kiddo and doggo are both adorable!! Please feature both of them in future videos 🥰 What type of breed is your dog?
@@ExpeditionHomestead Thanks so much for your reply. Even if the dahlias haven't yet flowered, I can make cuttings? I bought root hormone as well to speed up the process :).
I did just release a video last week showing a different way propagate them, by the sprouts. You can find it in my recent uploads if you’d like to see 🌿
If I am propagating from cuttings from the middle of the plant and they have no leaves, will it still work for rooting to take place without the photosynthesis? I have to take cuttings without the leaves as the plant has grown too tall without pruning as I waited for it to bloom which happened only recently
I just watched your video on propagating Dahlia plants, my question is, what do you do with that plant in the fall, since there is no bulb to dig up and store in a dry area?
Probably best to keep them in a frost free location, and cut back on the watering. But I'd probably tend to do cuttings in spring when the plant is all geared up to getting growing and has time to form a tuber. But i'll definately give this method a try to compare.
I’d actually discourage any blooms and cut them off the first year if it does bloom because it needs all the strength it can get going to the root development
After I take my cuttings can I put them under my deck so it doesn’t have direct sunlight? Do I cover them in a large clear plastic bin, to prevent expensive rain water? How long would I leave it under the deck to put it out into the sun?
A cutting will take longer, imagine a young fruit tree compared to an old well developed one. It will produce a tuber the first season but not as big as a tuber that is several years old.
may i please ask if what your garden soil is made of? did you add anything in it like urea or some organic fertilizer? I am planning to propagate my first ever dahlia and I'm afraid I won't be able to do it right. It may die
Love the vid, but tell me, are you in a climate zone that they can survive the winter or do you bring them inside? I see you have a cute little greenhouse, do you put the cuttings in the greenhouse during the winter?
We are in zone 5b so we do have to bring them inside because there’s not enough time to get established before winter, unfortunately the greenhouse doesn’t provide much insulation value during the winter months either
I’ve never managed to root a dahlia cutting after late May. To root a cutting in mid to late summer and then keep it alive over winter, wouldn’t you need to keep it in artificial heat and light? Greetings from a fellow dahlia lover in Manchester UK.
What if I want to propagate in late/end of Summer, is the method same? I live in cold country, Europe, so should I keep them inside my house in window or something like that?
Super super successful. I’ve had 100% success rate but have only done this about a dozen times. I think you can expect about a 70-80% success rate if doing in mass.
I took late cutting and they have nice tubers. I'm pushing them in the warm now in UK London. No rooting hormone or honey or bananas or anything else. everyone took. I left very little leaves. No cover, no misting just water when it started to dry out.
I got some dwarf dahlia but something happened to it. It says it requires full sun but I I left it in the sun and next day my beautiful yellow Dahlia was burned orange! All the top branches were burned. I had it watered and everything but did the sun burned it?
I see that some people recommend taking cuttings with part of the tuber on as well. Won't taking part of the tuber remove the eye? I thought the dahlias sprouted exactly where the eyes are... So confused
My stupid neighbor threw big rocks at my dahlia and it's now all broken from the base and it's all wilted and now I'm trying to propagate it from cuttings 😠😡🤬

Hi. How long does it take for a tuber to form after these cuttings root?
The little boy is adorable! Have him help in all your videos!!
Was looking at the cute little boy whole time, now have to rewatch this to learn how to do it 🤣
Huh. Funny I did the exact same thing lol
Same 😂
Me too 😂😂😂; Pretty Boy totally distracted my Attention from the Dahlia cuttings !!!
Hi “little” one! I’m sure you’re BIG now! 😊
Thanks for sharing knowledge will definitely try this method to multiply my dahlias as it very expensive to buy ready plants which are flowering
Wow, beautiful segar dan sangat subur.
Thank you for your step by step 🚶♂️

Yes even me also I experienced, if I propagate during the month of May, June, July become meaning full but August, September......😁 Meaning less.
What a beautiful child😍😍😍 Loved the video, very interesting!
How do you overwinter the cuttings? And when do you plant them in the spring, after last freeze date?
You could stick them on a heat mat inside a greenhouse. You're better off taking cuttings from the tubers in the spring however.
Ingin rasanya punya kebun bunga yang cantik....❤
Bunganya cantik-cantik......❤❤❤❤
Interesting video
I have couple of questions Dhalia has hollow stemp how will root
Also do we have to dip in to rooting poweder or not
Hello! Great information, thanks! What's the name of this Dahlia? Such a beautiful color.
Wow so pretty beautiful 🧡 lovely color Dahlia 😘🥰😍🤩👍
Thank you!!
Thanks you for this! we have had major downpours and my lovely pinnate snapped so this is ace!
One of my favorite flowers beside gladiolus

Where to buy this flower and what month to start planting it? Please advise! Thank you !
Can I do this on early spring dahlias that I grew inside waiting for a nicer weather?
Absolutely!!

Have fun!!

Wow..!!!thats my favorite flowers dalhia and daisy flowers..
Does this method produce a tuber? How long does that take?
Great video thanks.
Is there any particular time of the year you should take cuttings, I'm in nz
Awesome info🎉

Can dahlia be place inside the house?? During winter time
Lovely.
What’s the name of that dahlia you took a cutting off? It’s lovely!
thank you !!
I love Dalhia’s but Sterling takes the cake!
Very informative !
Jako poucno nisam znala da iz reznica se moze zakorjeniti dalija hvala na videu
I am looking for information on what to do with dahlia cuttings during winter. I have a quite a few.....
Really clear instructions. Thank you.
Great video, Thankyou for doing these 😊
Hi, where do the tubers come from, with the new plants???
Can I do this in June or July and get flowers from it the same year?
When you take cuttings Do they bloom same year?.
I’d actually discourage any blooms and cut them off the first year if it does bloom because it needs all the strength it can get going to the root development
excellant!

They charge you for rain water? What has this world come to?
Omg my son is 6 years old and his name is stirling also❤❤❤
Will I get the same amount of flowers off a cutting as a tuber? How long does it take for the tuber to develop on a cutting?
A cutting will take longer, imagine a young fruit tree compared to an old well developed one. It will produce a tuber the first season but not as big as a tuber that is several years old.
@@ExpeditionHomestead Cool thank you! I successfully have a rooted cutting and am excited to see the results this summer!
Great explanation. Thank you!

How much time do they need to make tubers? I have a short season.
Usually within two seasons you will get tubers that you can propagate
I usually have tubers by the end of the season. Same as with growing from seed.
What if I want to propagate in late/end of Summer, is the method same? I live in cold country, Europe, so should I keep them inside my house in window or something like that?

What is the best time to multiply dahlia from cutting
I just saw this video, here in Oklahoma a flower farmer puts Dahlia cuttings out in her high tunnel in Late October and end up
How successful do you find his method (i.e what percent of cuttings become full plants)?
Super super successful. I’ve had 100% success rate but have only done this about a dozen times. I think you can expect about a 70-80% success rate if doing in mass.
I came for the plants but I stayed for the cute baby
Tempat tuan sejuk boleh la..tapi tempat saya panas tak menentu...susah sikit nak tumbuh...
U r from. And how many days dahlia take to give flower.
Where do u put the pot with the cuttings?
Hello. After you get a good root do you dig it out from the pot and store them or you let them keep growing? I'm in zone 6a 😊
I would take them out then plant them. Then cover with mulch before frost
from which cutting do these plants reproduce?
How do you stop the slugs eating them.
If you're starting these that late in the growing season, what do you do with them at the end of the season? Do they already have tubers developed?
I took late cutting and they have nice tubers. I'm pushing them in the warm now in UK London. No rooting hormone or honey or bananas or anything else. everyone took. I left very little leaves. No cover, no misting just water when it started to dry out.
Anybody try this? And does it work?
Whats the name of this orange dahlia?
nema komentara kako može da se naruči kolko je cena stvarno su lepi.
They end up with Flowers till Mother's day from those as well as early in the new year.
Would be nice if you showed us the roots it grew.
Should the cuttings be placed on full sunlight or shade for best root propagation?
I got some dwarf dahlia but something happened to it. It says it requires full sun but I I left it in the sun and next day my beautiful yellow Dahlia was burned orange! All the top branches were burned. I had it watered and everything but did the sun burned it?
Did you just buy it? If it wasn’t hardened off and had been growing under grow lights on in a partially shaded greenhouse it could get burnt at first
@@ExpeditionHomestead I bought it at a huge plant flea market it was on the sun there
@@ExpeditionHomestead ok I brought it inside for a bit just in case but I will be planting it out soon next week on log planters
I'm sorry, could you repeat that? I got distracted by that adorable little boy!
I see that some people recommend taking cuttings with part of the tuber on as well. Won't taking part of the tuber remove the eye? I thought the dahlias sprouted exactly where the eyes are... So confused
When you take cuttings off of a tuber you need to get a piece of that eye on your cutting to grow. The tuber will grow more sprouts.
@@ExpeditionHomestead Ah okay, thank you!
So is this in preparation for next year? I'm confused.
Im frm asam
Hi
It is easy to do what you have shown, it is a pity you did show the roots on the cuttings, we do not know if they rooted.
You sound like Mr Trudeau 😂
Handsome
Why not share ur channel.
You kinda sound like justin trudeau
My stupid neighbor threw big rocks at my dahlia and it's now all broken from the base and it's all wilted and now I'm trying to propagate it from cuttings 😠😡🤬
Has anybody seen success in this method? I've heard cuttings needs to come frome the base tubers..
You can find many videos and photos online, I wouldn’t have posted a video if I didn’t know that it works 🌿 happy gardening
