  • Here's how to set up vertical navigation profiles in the Garmin GTN 650/750 to do descent planning, including descents to pattern altitudes, and descents to cross a point above a minimum altitude.

I recently subscribed to the premium version of the GTN750. Enjoyed the video. I have no problem creating a flight plan but a little confusing on planning the descend into the specific runway doing a visual approach. I welcome your feedback. Thank you!

For me, someone learning glass panel flying, you flipped through the bit about removing the constraint at KISP so quickly I had to play it several times. This is not a criticism just an observation from a learner.

At time 1:56 we transitioned from KISP +9 to KISP being our “to” waypoint, seemingly then displaying 6500’ . Did you go direct KISP in one of the steps? Thanks👍

IF CONFUSED WITH NEXT POINT TRY LOOKING AT NOTAM LISTS FOR TRACK ROUTE?

Is there a way to do this without adding Islip to your flight plan? In this case, the required deviation was minimal, but you cherry-picked this scenario. Suppose you needed to overfly a class B, far from the airport it surrounds. You wouldn’t want to have to deviate your course by, say, 20 degrees to fly directly over it.

Is there some X-Plane or MSFS secret to getting VNAV to engage? I have followed several different video instructions as well as the GTN 650 and GFC 500 manuals to try make that work, but nothing I do will get the VNAV to enage in the autopilot.

You have the selected altitude at the lowest altitude of the vnav altitude range?

@@andyimo There was a recent update to MSFS autopilot modes that fixed it.

ONE WAY TO LOOK THEM UP IS GO BY THE STATE THE ROUTE IS AT AND GO BY FIRST LETTER OF CITY OF NEXT POINT?

I'm guessing that you are using the paid version of GTN 750 as my free version in the Van RV-14 MSFS does nothing when I hit the alt button next to KFRG. It already reads 71 ft and doesn't appear to be changeable. Petty, as I would love to try descent planning,

I liked the presentation to program a decent pathway into the Garmin GPS.

Just one question "real quick" if flying VFR is the only LCD screen display on the Garmin, the white blinking line at the bottom of the screen? Any tone/alarm?

I have dual 650s in my plane and I do not get a tone or alert at least with mine, just the blinking white line warning X number of seconds that you’re about at TOD. It doesn’t last long once you’re there, just a couple of seconds.

I wish FMS/GPS terminology would use another term for "TOD" as "Tod" means "death" in German.

Is it not “tot”? I cannot remember you pronounce a ‘d’ 😊

@@beowes „Tod“ is the Death. „tot“ is the verb; to be dead.

      @@beowes Hope i can help:
tot with "t" is the adjective like "to be dead". Tod with "d" is the substantive like "death is close".
