Nobody talks about how Dominique went overseas in 1995-1996 and won the EuroLeague title with Panathinaikos, while being the finals MVP! It’s very impressive and should be mentioned!
Wow, we're bragging about Euro titles? Why don't you throw in Marbury's glory years in China? Dominique Wilkins was never a great leader in the NBA, just a one trick pony who could dunk. As one writer said, he had the shot selection of a South African riot cop.
Dominique Wilkins one of the Greatest small forwards in NBA History. Ranked in the 30-40 area on my list. Imagine if Utah kept him an later got Stockton & Malone. NBA History as we know it probably is different. Especially the Western Conference seeing how from 1991-1994 they had a new finals representative, Stockton to Wilkens would've been just as beautiful as Stockton to Malone.
Grew up an 80s kid and 'Nique was special!! Why he's so underappreciated just baffles me!! Nique was Vince Carter before Vince Carter was Vince Carter. Insane hops, could shoot, play D and had dunks for days. He was a great scorer too. Him and MJ had duels like you never see today!! LONG LIVE THE HUMAN HIGHLIGHT REEL!!
I have read different stories that he was one of the players invited to the join the dream team, and some say that he wasnt. I think it was around the same summer of his achilles injury anyway. Either way he deserved to be on that team I think. amazing dunker and better all around player than people remember.
Dominique Wilkins was the best NBA player in Hawks history and one of the rivals of Michael Jordan and Larry Bird. It's very unfortunate that he retired without experiencing the NBA Finals during his playing days.
Dominique,Alex English, mark Aguirre, rolando Blackman, sugar Ray Richardson,Roy tarpley,🔥🔥 there are in the Most underrated team of the 80 's .by the way he and Alex English should be in the 50 Best NBA players .another injustice .
Roy Tarpley was just a💊💉🍄 addicted underachiever for most of his career just like Michael Ray Richardson who was an eastern conference poor man's Magic Johnson'/!!! Nuff said'/!!! ,😵💫👿😫😩😵
He's like a wilder version of Grant Hill above the rim. It's truly is team system that makes & ups players achievements. For me it's only nique, bird & hill on that sf position. No one else.
Back in the 80’s & early 90’s, we couldn’t see many games in my area. One channel we got was WTBS out of Atlanta. That meant we got 1 or 2 games a week. Love watching Nique. One of my favorites! The teams weren’t always good but he gave everything on the court. I hate he was traded his last year. They beat the Knicks & Rockets during the regular season so they were really good. Lenny Wilkins felt Nique didn’t play D & killed the ball movement. He was the only player that could really get his own shot when everything broke down so not a great move.
Wilkins didnt wanted to play for jazz, that's why he was traded.. later after retirementehe said he wish he stayed with utah seeing he could be playing with stockton and malone...
Nice video, that trade didn't make any sense the Eastern Conference was wide open (1994) because of Jordan's abrupt retirement in Chicago... The Atlanta Hawks were in contention with Dominique in tow, still in his prime form🏀💯
@123slasher.16 Robert Horry, because LeBron wasn't the best player on any of his championship teams. He went to WADE's Heat, Kyrie was better in the Finals, as was AD. Meanwhile, MJ, Kobe, Magic, and Bill Russell all won more rings, without having to homie hop from team to team 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@AnthonyAnalog dumb ass comment. Kyrie Irving couldn't even get a winning season or playoff berth until LBJ came back. From 2007-2010 Miami WITH Wade was trash before LBJ arrived. When Shaq left, Wade was Tracy McGrady and nothing else AD was injured more than Jimmy Garropolo. Like I said, dumb ass comment
Problem is Dominique's game didn't evolve like Michael's game evolved. As he got older, his game stayed the same with less athleticism and less W's. But he was absolutely disrespected by the hawks organization. Sad
Great video. Yeah that trade was just ridiculous. I still can’t believe the front office thought losing Wilkins and adding Manning would actually improve the team. It’s just ridiculous.
Nique's return to the Omni as a Clipper, I was there and it was sold out❗️We booed Stan Kaston, Lenny Wilkens and NO HEART Danny Manning! I remember Mookie Blaylock complaining on V-103 the next morning talking about how all the fans in the Omni that night were cheering for the Clippers and how upset he was. Hawks fans started calling into the radio station expressing that Dominique Wilkins built Atlanta! He was THE HAWKS!!! We were all thrilled the Clippers won the game❗️Nique had about 35❗️Nique will "Forever Be Looked At As One Of The Greats In The ATL❗️❗️❗️" What MJ was to Chicago. What Bird was to Boston. What Magic was to L.A.....Nique was, and ALWAYS WILL BE to Atlanta....🏀💣💥🔥👊▪️
- Dominique Wilkins is the reason I stopped watching The NBA. In 1994, The Atlanta Hawks traded Dominique to The LA Clippers for Danny Manning. Still, the absolute worst trade in professional sports history.
The only true rival to Jordan and the only one that could stand by MJ in a debate for the who’s better back in the day.. very close in stats too and won MJ in many games (less than MJ though).. in my book he is same level or even better than Cobe because of the era that MJ and Dominique played that I think was more difficult and competitive.. if he had more support from the team with players like MJ had from Pippen and Rodman he might also had some rings.. a top 20 in my list..
My favorite player of all time. I will never forgive the Hawks for trading him. They may not have won it, but they would have went far. Whatever happened to Danny? I don't care. Just making a point. And Jon Konkac? What a joke of a so-called player there ever was.
Top 2 player today... EASY. Most of his buckets were inside clogged lanes, give the man a clear lane and he's averaging 30+ EASY. Better post, mid, jumper than almost every player today, was able to extend his shot to the 3pt line. Could drive by you, would still be top 5 athletes today even better so with modern training.
You're not wrong. This guy's athleticism and ability were insane. If he had the same mentality as Michael, this dude's game would have been off the charts. You can throw Penny Hardaway in this conversation as well.👍🏽

But on the other hand, he didn't have a Larry Bird to teach him any humility and respect for athletes of different races and that superior athleticism is not everything in basketball (height coordination and team first mentality go a long way). I'm sure Wilkins was a better man and better person for for having competed and lost to Bird's teams
And they say 90s players were not as athletic as today's players. Gtfoh. Like BDK once rapped. If you keep watching the game every week You might find out your wife's gettin dunked by Dominique.

Wilkins and Worthy…always loved both and what they brought to the NBA in their own ways
The Hawks were the best team in the east in 94 and then they traded Nique and fell early in the playoffs.
